A beat of mine
« on: October 01, 2012, 06:17:38 AM »
Hey, I've been making beats on and off for some time now. Here's my best work so far:

I'd like to thank TBV for introducing me to the basics of beat making. You're also free to listen to my other beats on Soundcloud, though, as I said, this is my best (and my favorite, I must admit) work so far. Its still a WIP. Hope you'll enjoy it.

http://soundcloud.com/jubitoo/jedna-za-dusu  is a lot better. You are just getting started I guess but try to use more variety. The whole track sounds the same most of the time.  :) The beats are great but you repeat them too often.

Thanks man, I appreciate the feedback. Well, looping is at the base of every rap beat, however I agree with you. I am trying to spice up my beats and add some variety (wherever this appears to be possible). A lot of these beats wouldn't be adequate for rapping over them, however when it comes to rapping over beats there's much looping to be done.

Nice could use some reverb though. What are you using to make this? I fool around on Fruity Loops quite often.

sounds good ;) i've tried to make my own songs a few months ago too, but i think I'm not born for this. maybe i will upload my both short beats later, but I'm not sure

i would say, you should try to improve your skills because i see some potential in your sounds. ;)

Thanks! :)
I must admit that I have the basic of base knowledge in FL, I mostly experiment and just play around until I find it pleasing for the ear.
@Reynolds I'm using FL yeah. What's the genre you're into when working with FL? Got any creations of yours that you could link? :D

Sounds nice man ^^

You should try messing around with sampling. I have some very talented musician friends, and the most entertaining tracks (imo at least) are usually the ones where they've sampled something crazy/old/funny/dramatic.

Here are some examples:

Mostly hip-hop style beats with weird synths, just like BOC. I also make very weird rave-like music because it's fun to do.

It's still really empty and needs more stuff in it.

Damn, I really like it
Loving that minimalistic feel to it.

Glad you like it!
As for sampling, this song doesn't have a simple preset FL studio sound or instrument.
The song I sampled in this particular beat I linked in this thread is:
Mandrill - Echoes In My Mind - The Warriors OST - 1979 -
EDIT: OH wait, I forgot it has a preset snare and rim shot, all of the others are sample slices.
I just sliced the intro loop and created a pattern out of the sounds found in it :D
I am thinking about sampling some other parts of the same song, like some of the vocals and guitar effects.
Only 2 of my beats on soundcloud don't contain a sample ("JEDNA ZA DUSU" and "FUCKING LASERS"), all of the others do.
And yes, I agree with you about sampling, it really fulfills beats and song generally.
Oh and, I really liked the tracks you listed in your post, your friend seems to have great talent. The versatility in genres is the biggest plus.
BTW here's the link to my soundcloud accout: http://soundcloud.com/jubitoo
Feel free to listen.
