Where can I get the best pc for 1200$
« on: December 03, 2011, 01:50:37 PM »
In Canada!  :euro:

I'm looking for something with at least 8 gb ram & 2gb graphic memory, so, if you happen to know some pretty good places to get something along those lines, I'd be grateful.
Also, is it worth waiting for the "christmas sales" ? I haven't lived in a capitalist country before, so I really have no idea if they are as great as anyone claims. I've been searching on the internet, but it seems that all they offer (the sites I visited) is a 1gb graphic memory cards for that price.
Should I build a pc instead? 'cause I have really no idea how to do that, I don't know what goes along, I have little to no knowledge about cpu's, heatsinks & that sort of stuff, so I really wouldn't like risking that much, of course if someone can help me, that would be nice. And if we disregard the building, what is the best I can get for said price?

I live in Europe so I can't really imagine the component pricing, but it is definitely better to build your own PC. I built mine, it's nothing requiring special skills, quite like an expensive puzzle :P The only thing you have to be aware of is using too big force on the components - if it doesn't fit, then you're placing it wrong, and you must avoid ESD - if you damage it like that, you'll get no money back  :P
you shall check pricing expectations, not everytime the prices decrease after christmas. If you want, I could pick the components for you, but you gotta give me a list of shops nearby you and your requirements for the machine... in my country there is one store, where you buy components and they build the PC for you free of charge. Is something like that in Canada?

So, I tried to build my own pc online & I'd like to see your reviews. Is it good? Is there anything else I should definitely add? Is it good for gaming/editing? Just share your thoughts 'cause I'm not really good at this.

Pre-built PC's will only rip you off... just my advice.

Though those specs you chosen are pretty good, and I'm pretty much sure they'll satisfy your needs :P

I think I'm fine, actually, changed a few things & added up to 1250$, which is about 1300$ with shipping/taxes, so basically a week's worth work for the extra 100$.
Still not sure if I should invest more in cooling tho, 'cause it is kinda important, yet the stock one for 30$ seems fine to me.

you are not going to be doing any over clocking, i dont think you need a CPU heatsink more than a hyper 212, but for the Graphics card if you want that to run you always cool, get the MSI Twin frozn II edition, amazing cooler that everyone recommends, might be alittile bit more expensive than the reference one but its worth it
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127588
its a bit more expensive in canada, as all computer hardware is

BTW: at what resoultion will you be playing games and recording, if you are not going with a 1080p monitor you wount need a 2GB graphics card

http://www.hwcompare.com/8888/geforce-gtx-560-ti-vs-radeon-hd-6950-2gb/
according to this benchmark, the 560 ti is less expensive and performs better
unless you insist on a AMD card

650 € = ~ 890 CAD

Has no OS though & I ain't sure if they deliver stuff over to Canada. Well the OS thing shouldn't be a big problem though I guess :ninja:
Dunno what the prices are over there for ya, but I assume you still could spare some money.

As for the VGA, memory is not everything man. You should buy a nvidia GTX 480. Beats the crap out of every VGA card!

No

Don't get the HD 6570. Ever.
It may have 2gb of memory, but it's extremely low-end.
Also AMD bulldozer sucks. Not only is it slow, but they're not even real 8cores. They're split quad cores.

Don't feel like explaining too much, just know that lilj knows his stuff, and you should listen to him. :euro:

Build it yourself obviously... not on a website though.
Get help choosing the parts and you can do it even with the basic knowledge. There are plenty of website out there with step by step instructions showing and telling you what to do and how to do it.
Someone may have already said this, didn't read the reply's

you know what, Determined? if I was you, I'd wait till Intel releases Ivy Bridge, and I would get one of those, or you  could get a Sandy Bridge, which price will decrease. As for the GPU, I'd pick a NVidia GTX 560 from MSI. They have way better support and drivers than AMD.
