Red Preview + Crashes
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:18:37 AM »
Heyho, I'm having some problems with Vegas and hope somebody can help me out.

Whenever I set the "Video rendering quality" option above "Good (half)", the preview window turns red on some clips and freezes the program when I try to preview any frame of those. That ain't a problem while editing since I'm not previewing everything on maximum settings, but when I want to render any file, ofc I'm setting the "Video rendering quality" to "Best" in the Project tab. No matter what format I'm using, it crashes whenever it reaches one of those "corrupted" clips.

Works fine:

FUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I thought it might be the effects amount I got upon some clips since my hardware is pretty weak, but even when I disabled all of them, it kept crashing. I also tried changing the format of the source clips, but that didn't help either (well Fraps' codec doesn't seem to be the problem anyway since the clips use to work, just not on maximum settings). I've also tried disabling the preview on renderings without success.

Afterwards I tried some suggestions I found around Google & YouTube, but nothing actually helped of what I tried. Hope you guys got some ideas or sth else.

And my system specs:

WinXP 32bit SP3
MSI MS-7204
Intel Pentium D830 (2 x 3,0 Ghz)
Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT (512 MB)
Infineon <idk-the-product's-name> (3 GB)

Have you installed or changed settings of any any video decoding related software? Try creating a new project in Vegas and add some of the clips into it and see if it's still red and if it's the same clips causing it, also try just renaming the clip (perhaps different HDD if you have multiple) and see if it's red.

Can't think of anything to solve it yet but these might help locating the problem.

Edit: I guess you read these but just making sure, try googling "sony vegas 8 red preview", there are a few topics with similar problems.

It's just a bug with the fraps codec in Vegas, all you can do is restart Vegas and that should solve the problem.

Try changing the resolution of the project to 1920x1082  or  1920x1078. Some plugins are doing that for me, and when I change the resolution it fixes up.

Didn't install nor change anything lately which is encoding related. Rendering/Previewing on maximum settings, as I expected, works fine in a new project file. I doubt it is a bug, it used to work fine with the same installation lol. I had similar problems with the german community video which I solved with restarting and rendering segments seperately. Simply restarting doesn't fix it this time.

However, I think that it's fixed now. I converted the specific source clips, renamed and replaced those and then disabled all applied plugins by Zenoté. Gonna replace those with something similar whenever I'm going to continue. Hadn't anymore time to test it out on all concerned clips yesterday evening, but it used to work on all those which I tried.

In case it all will be fine then, thank you guys for helping out a little. :ajaja:
