Xvid won't work with Vegas or After Effects ????
« on: October 06, 2006, 11:07:36 AM »
Hi , sorry if this has been answered but i've done a search and come up empty .

I had about 15 nice stunts - all clocking in at over 300mb a piece , now the best codec i could find to use in Virtual Dub was Xvid - it comes out almost identical to the original at a portion of the size .

Only problem was i converted all my stunts to Xvids , deleted the raw copies and proceeded to vegas .

This is where the problem starts - the clip will not open in vegas - it appaers in the media pool , but you can't drag it to the timeline. So f*** it i thought and moved to After Effects which also refused to open it - when i tried it said it had a seperate alpha ... blah blah blah and when it finally opens - it's just a blank screen .

Any ideas on how to fix this ?

Xvid does not work well with most editing software.
That's the punishment for compressing your footage

You can open them in Xvid and render them with an uncompressed codec.

Ahh s***

So do you think it would be best to edit in AF/Vegas while the clips are raw data ?

Then compress it when the vid's done ?

Just the HD space it takes up is enormous .

Thanks anyway Daffy

You can open them in Xvid and render them with an uncompressed codec.
OR you can compress them with Vegas-friendly 3ivX codec with good quality.

Compress the final video, and save reps until you're ready to record/edit.
