Blog / Looking Back #6 - Bonzai
« on: August 13, 2011, 04:27:11 PM »
Well, the SASL is over and, as promised, this series is kickstarted. I'm hoping to focus less on the personal reviews and make some interviews with the creators just like I'm doing right now. If you guys support this idea then I'll keep it that way for the upcoming reviews as well.

In the 6th installment of the Looking Back series after a 2 month long hiatus, we'll be looking back at a very impressive best of released in mid-2009: Streem's Bonzai.

This video seems like a joint production, since as much hard work Streem put into landing those stunts over the years, Dogger backed up with one of the most impressive looking editings of the year. The video features few really big standouts stuntwise like the finisher, the taxi precision and some others you'll probably find scattered throughout. But it's the big "teamwork" between the stunter and editor that seems to made this video stand out, it feels like every stunt was given a proper cam angle that shows it off in the best way possible, and it was all tuned in perfectly to the amazing music. In my opinion, a video which truly potrays the artistic side of stunting and how everything we do as stunters can be counted as some form of art.

I won't say much more and let you watch the video - you can find out more about it from the interview I conducted with Streem himself below.

Nominations:
- 3rd Best SA Video 2009
- 4th Best SA Solo 2009
- 7th Best SA Stunt 2009 (Finisher)
- (Dogger) 7th Best Editor 2009

Bonzai

Interview with Streem:

PtR: "First of all, thank you Milosz for taking the time out to talk about your best of with me. For starters, I'd like to know how important was this video for you and do you feel like you accomplished something with it."
Str: "The pleasure is mine. It was a big achievement in my stunting career, my first solo, edited by the guy who was with me from the very beginning, it kinda ended my 'noobish' career, I was happy to get it released."

PtR: "'From the very beginning' seems to be the right choice of words - I recall when I started out on GTAS in early 2008 seeing you wearing a signature: 'BONZAI COMING SOON'. Do you feel the video was in the works for too long and were you bothered by it at any moment?"
Str: "When I put on that signature I didn't even talk to Dogger about that project, it was some kind of commercial move to bring some attention, I guess. Our conversation happened few months later, I felt such a relief that he agreed. I knew that his projects used to take considerable time and I got used to it so it wasn't really a problem, especially when the video was a 'best of' with already released stunts. When I finally sent him the pack I felt like, 'that's a closed chapter, time to move on' and joined SS, the editing took him about 6-7 months as I can recall."

PtR: "That clarifies it. Let's move on to the video itself - many people I've talked to about it said that two things stand out and make it special: the editing&music combination and the finisher. Do you beg to differ? Is there some other aspect of this video you feel makes it stand out from the masses?"
Str: "Dogger produced a real masterpiece, I couldn't expect anything better. I have to agree that the things you mentioned were standouts for the watchers, but there were a few other special things for me. First one was definitely the intro itself, the music and… the final part where the title appears, when I first saw it I got a feeling which might be compared to an orgasm, it happens in some videos and I'm glad I had it here as well. The other thing that stood out for me has to be the double boost to the chimney precision, it brings great memories of Blood Hood, probably one of the best videos where I appeared."

PtR: "Now that you mention it - the intro really was impressive. Though it is kinda confusing that it misleads the watcher into thinking it's a VC video. Seeing SA&VC combined is not an uncommon idea but the distribution in your video is. What made you opt for this unusual choice of adding two VC stunts?"
Str: "VC is the game where I started stunting, even though I wasn't really good there I had a few stunts which could be used. Actually I sent him a lot more than these two but he said that the others totally sucked and weren't worth using. About the intro, I had no idea how it was gonna look, the whole concept of it was the bonsai tree, I noticed that it appears in LC and that's how we came up with that idea."

PtR: "Let's keep talking about the video - this time I'm interested in the music choices. They were certainly great, and I'd like to know how much part you've taken in choosing them. Was it all Dogger's decision or did you suggest any of them? And what's your opinion on all of them combined, do you feel like they blend nicely together?"
Str: "To be honest I was certain that Kacper is gonna use one of the Prodigy songs, that's what I suggested at the very beginning, I found out about the actual soundtrack after watching the video. My feelings were mixed but I re-watched it a few times and I realized how epic it is, alternative rock plus electronic, who could've known that it would fit so well."

PtR: "Could you give us the impressions you had when you landed the finisher? I'm sure the feeling was immense."
Str: "I don't think I felt anything special, I knew that it was a great combo but I didn't realize how good was it until I showed it to Skamer and later while I was reading comments about the PKS video."

PtR: "And, for a fitting ending - do you feel like this is your peak? Is this the best Streem action in SA we will see? And something I've wanted to ask for a while now, would it be likely to see a "Bonzai 2" some day?"
Str: "I think that I can do much more than it was shown in Bonzai, even though the stunting level wasn't high I'm still proud of every stunt which I landed, no matter how bad did it look. At the moment I'm working on two projects, hopefully at least one of them will be released this year. I don't know if you've noticed but I was already wearing Bonzai 2 signature, I guess that's a good clue  :cc_detective: ."

PtR: "Sounds awesome, thank you for your time."
Str: "No problem, thank you for the interview."

Blog / San Andreas Stunting League 5 completed!
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:30:53 AM »
After 2 months of hard stunting, various challenges and tough decisions, we have come to an end of yet another stunt league. I'd like to congratulate all the participants (especially the ones who didn't no-show  :euro: ) as well as all the judges. You guys did a great job of making this a great league and I think it went pretty smoothly. We had a few arguments here and there but all in all I think that the league was a success.

Nothing else left to do, but congratulate the winners! (Userbars made by Killerstunter)

DaredevilX's Road to victory:

[noembed]Group M - Round 1 - versus ExRer - won 5-2
Group M - Round 2 - versus Diaz - won 7-0
Group M - Round 3 - versus Furious - lost 1-4
Round of 32 - versus Jackob - won
Round of 16 - versus Nauthiluz - won by no-show
Round of 7 - versus [Bart] and Genyus - won
Semi-finals - versus Squeak - won by no-show
The Grand Finale - versus PrzemOO - won[/noembed]

Congratulations to the podium-finishers, especially DaredevilX for this fine achievement. In addition to winning 1,000 credits and the userbar, he has also received the official SASL5 NRG-500 (created by Roach), which will also be used in the SASL5 video.

And a shoutout to all the judges who helped me during this league: Anoobis, cloudwalker, GDL, MeetMyMeat, NuclearDeath, Raining, Simon, Turtle Dick and XtremeOmega.

And, last but not least, tons of luck to cloudwalker, who has already started editing the SASL5 video.

Thanks everyone, and good luck to whoever organizes the next one.

OUR... NAME... IS...

Hello, I present you the collab that was organized... well, a long time ago.

It didn't turn out as good as we wanted it to (loss of motivation, loss of parts, well, loss of loads of shit really), but we hope it's sufficiently good for you to go insane.

Sorry Kacknase for not waiting longer for your part, you said you'd have had it uploaded by Monday and I waited as long as I could :< Maybe you can release it on the BT channel as a separate editing? :3

Sorry to the people who didn't get in because some editors couldn't finish their parts.

If you don't like excessive editing I suggest you go no further than the first minute.  :euro:

SASL 5 / The Grand Finale - PrzemOO vs. DaredevilX [DaredevilX wins]
« on: July 24, 2011, 06:18:12 AM »
San Andreas Stunting League 5

Knock-out Stage
The Grand Finale
PrzemOO vs. DaredevilX

Congratulations to both of you for passing all the obstacles after almost two months of stunting and reaching this stage!

Challenge: Your objective is split into two parts:
  • The first part of the objective is to perform two stunts which are in direct sequence. This means that the starting point of the second stunt should be in great proximity to the ending point of the first stunt. For example, if you landed on a building in the first stunt, you can start the runup for the second one on the street which that building is located in. These stunts do not need to be performed with the same vehicle. If you're unsure whether any two locations are in great proximity, send me a PM.
  • All along in this league there was always some kind of a restriction, which was intended to test how well can you cope with a certain limitation. Since by reaching the finals you've pretty much proven you're capable of good thinking when you don't have much space for it, now is the time to see how well you perform with all the space at your disposal. The second objective is that there is no objective. Perform whatever stunt it is that you think is best.
  • All three stunts will be judged separately and the winner will be the stunter who has more votes in when all stunts' votes have been added up. Once again, congratulations on reaching the finals, and good luck!

Time: 15 days (two weeks one day) from now. (extension requested by DaredevilX)

The Marketplace / {S} PtRvY's Scripting Shop
« on: July 22, 2011, 03:45:11 AM »
This shop for now sells only scripts. San Andreas (United and AC included) and Vice City (LC and SAiVC included).

Since this is work that requires a lot of focus and commitment, I will be able to take max. 1-2 projects at any moment. I will be asking other scripters to help me out with this and if they agree then maybe we'll be able to take on more projects at once.

Current status: INACTIVE (but check back in a month or two)

Here are some of my previous scripts:
San Andreas
[noembed]Memento - Voted for the 4th best script of 2012
BDNPW
SSU - Haze - Voted for the 2nd best script of 2011
Parabellum's Sorrow - Voted for the 2nd best script of 2010
Best of ChaoS
WH - Arcane - Voted for the 3rd best script of 2011
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
dv - IN YOUR FACE - Voted for the 4th best script of 2010
Suck It Up
The Emergency
TWO and a half GERMEN intro
The Emergency Squad intro

Vice City
Cold Sweat II - Voted for the 5th best script of 2011
DP - Inconspicuous
Triumph
Embrace Endure[/noembed]

How to request?
Comment in here if you are interested in an intro script for me, and I will shortly reply via PM when I'm available. Then you need to tell me (via PM or MSN) what do you want for your intro (preferably in a .txt file). Then I will reply with saying whether or not I'm capable of accepting that, and if I accepted I'll tell you the price and the approximate time it will take to get it finished. Please, don't get mad if my assessment was wrong (it often happens in scripting that something looks far more easy than it is).

What do I get?
When your script is completed, you will receive a main.scm and script.img file (if it's a VC script, you only get a main.scm file). Put those in your /data/script folder in San Andreas (/data folder in Vice City), start a new game, and your script will play out, ready for recording. If you are interested I could record/edit it for you, but that might add up to the price. Try to notify me while requesting if you want me to perform the editing.

How high are the prices?
Prices will range from 80 to 200 credits depending on the difficulty of the script. I shall assess the difficulty myself. I reserve the right to change this range.

What rights do I have on the script I've bought?
After you receive the script and the payment is made, the script is completely yours. I transfer all the rights of usage, modifying and selling to the buyer. I only keep a copy of the code on my PC for future reference. The only thing you should do is give credit to the script's creator in any video it gets used.

Projects in Progress:
n/a

Completed Projects:
Arcane intro for Beat
VC Cinematic Intro for GDL (sold for 100 credits)
VC Donut script for Bany (sold for 85 credits)
SAiVC Parody intro for GDL (sold for 200 credits)
San Fierro "Busy Town" script (sold to [Bart] for 90 credits)
Haze intro for SSU
Landscape intro for MaCi & Herr-Dav'
Original Arcane script (on sale for 170 credits)

Customer feedback:
Beat: "I'd like to especially thank PtRvY for the very hard work applying my idea for the intro."
GDL: "The script was perfect."
Bany: "Thanks for the script it awesome really thanks."
Rusch69: "Big thanks also go out to PtRvY which helped me a lot with the scripting related stuff"
MaCi: "This is fantastic, holy fuck - Way better than I imagined!!"

Hope to see some orders.  :a-cheer:

SASL 5 / Important information.
« on: June 27, 2011, 03:27:04 PM »
Hello.
As you may or may not have known, I'm absent until July 11th. So it's impossible for me to keep organizing this league in that period. I've offered the leadership position to cloudwalker and MMM because they were the most active out of the judges, but seems like they have refused. Well I'm not able to post any matches, so I'll need one of the judges to take over and post the Round of 16 matches.

Also, until I come back, cloudwalker is a main judge and I'm a backup judge as my timing of internet usage isn't very clear + I can't check reps.

Pairs (for the judge who will post the round of 16):

PrzemOO vs. vmx
Diaz vs. Sear
Gryzlek vs. KasT
[Bart] vs. UndeadX
Genyus vs. Rusch69
DaredevilX vs. Nauthiluz
TurBo vs. SubliminaL
Squeak vs. Franco

Have fun and good luck.

Also. Since I noticed Disciplo complained about judges using the argument of Genyus' stunt being new, I wanna clarify for my vote: I voted before Przem let us know Genyus' one is old, but I'd still have voted for him, because I was fond of his execution and the previous guy who done that stunt didn't do a krail.
