Contrast Speedrun
« on: November 19, 2013, 07:15:56 AM »
I thought I'd share a speedrun I did in a new game called Contrast that I really liked. It's a sweet puzzle game for the PC, with some cool graphics and music. Messing around I found a lot of bugs and skips, so I thought I'd try a speedrun. Managed to get it down to just under 30 minutes(the game is estimated to be 3 - 5 hours with the normal puzzle solutions and cut-scenes). It's far from a perfect run, I even found some new skips here and there after uploading, but please enjoy anyway

Looks like a fun game to run, is there a community for it? Certain games have huge speedrunning fanbases, SM64 and SMB for instance.
Been running Banjo Kazooie for a bit, but with a ps3 controller, gotta get my hands on a real N64 soon enough. I know most of the routing just from endless hours of watching streams on Twitch.

Wish I knew of any good keyboard based games suitable for speedrunning.

It just came out this last Friday, so I don't think there are many that are doing it yet  :P Yeah, I've been watching Banjo and some other games as well, though I doubt I'll ever be able to compete with them D:

Stivitybobo, SixFifteen, Smasher32, Konditioner and SpecOne23 are incredible at BK, you should check them out if you haven't already. And yeah you won't be able to compete, but banjo is such a fun game you'll find pleasure in improving your own PB. The 100% world record is 2:20:16 by Smasher.

I've been watching Siglemic speedrun Super Mario 64, that guy is insane. And I think I've seen the world record for Banjo, which is pretty insane. I also watched a TAS banjo kazooie run that was also just above 2 hours, so the fact that people can do it in a pretty close time without is insane. I've also watched Amnesia speedruns

Sig is nuts, so are BebopBandit and Biinny. BK has gotten to the point where the smallest mistake warrants a reset, since like you said it's so close to the TAS. Makes watching streams pretty boring huehue.
Amnesia reminds me of Half Life in terms of speedrunning, lots of clipping and stuff, not my cuppa tea.

I just found it fun, "okay let's speedrun amnesia" *clips through first wall and walk through entire level on the roof*  Basically does the same for every level in the game.

And yeah, watching Banjo is fun like once in a while. Constantly watching people trying to beat the WR can be boring. But it's always insane to see how much control and information people have gathered.

Gonna play this game before I watch your speedrun! Watched two minutes and it looks like something I'll enjoy.

Haven't watched many speedruns before, but the Portal WR is insane. Also upon replaying Commander Keen 4 again , a game from my childhood, I checked out the WR speedrun on youtube. I'm pretty sure HL2 speedrun is awesome, haven't seen it myself though.
