It Was A Good Day - instrumental remake
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:30:37 AM »
...and another hip-hop and Radio Los Santos gem you're ought to be familiar with - Ice Cube's 'It Was a Good Day'.
This beat proves that complex=/=better. It samples The Isley Brothers' 'Footsteps in the Dark', which repeats throughout the whole song, with the vocals on the hook sampled from the same song and The Moments' 'Sexy Mama'. Everything was sampled, arranged and mastered by me in fruity loops. I hope you'll enjoy it.
You can download/listen to it here:

since SoundCloud is giving people a hard time with copyright disputes.
Oh and if you're going to listen to it on zippyshare here's a tip: click the [SD] thingy in the top right corner of the player to change to a better audio quality, since the one you're given on default impairs the track's quality.

Pretty cool, enjoyed listening to it although I guess this wouldn't be a song to put on repeat due to it's repetitiveness   .  The only thing I'd say is that the 'oo -ah' section of the lyrics cuts a bit suddenly, a longer fade out probably would make it sound smoother. Nice job though man :).

Yeah it's definitely repetitive, although I could listen to the original version with Ice Cube rapping over it on and on. And yes, you are right about that 'oo-ah' section, I'm so dissatisfied with it that I am constantly re-opening fruity loops, hoping I could find a solution. The thing is that the second sample is too short to fade properly.... I really don't know how DJ Pooh (the producer of the original) managed to do it. I am going to look it further up. If anyone  experienced enough in Fl has something to advise, I'd be greatly thankful.
Cheers for the feedback MikeyMouse.
EDIT: I've made it more subtle now, it sounds much better if you ask me. Updated the first post with the freshest link.

original is way smoother, and that ooh-ah part is too loud and isn't fading well, i think by myself i would try to stretch it a bit in vegas by length. still good job

I've managed to make the vocals sound better so I updated the first post. Check it out now if you wish. Yeah, the original is the original, no remake will ever match it of course. I just like re-creating these beats I like - it's also a great production exercise. Stretching it wouldn't help btw. It would be possible if I had only the vocal sampled, without any background instruments - which I don't ('taking out' some of the instruments is one hell of a job, which takes a lot to learn - and a proper equipment) - so it wouldn't match the rest of the samples at all.
