My firewall is preventing me from using BitComet, and I tried deactivating it and it didn't work. It said my firewall is off, but BitComet still gives me a yellow light. help?

I never said anything about warez. What about the torrent version of Fracture? That's not warez... and that's only one example...

bitcomet it self isn't warez or illegal its a legal product
you should enable it in your windows firewall or what ever you got, or go into your router and forward your port.

Add the port BitComet uses to the Windows Firewall exceptions.

If it has a randomize port option, turn it off.

Your probably using a router, so go ahead and do what Feron said, forward the port.

Portforward.com if you don't know how.

Also, I thought the yellow light was something to do with NAT being all shitty?

Try using bitlord - thats what i use to get my favorite linux distribution
Also try turning off your Windows SP2 firewall, even if you allow an application, its still only allowing a maximum of 2 connections (which isnt even enough to receive data from the trackers).
I wouldn't know why you need to forward ports (only needed if you want to use TCP connections - faster). Normally P2P should also work without any "opened" ports cause UDP is connectionless and only incoming connection requests are blocked (only for TCP). In the way the torrent credit system works an single UDP-Out would be enough (even if its slow).
Did you make sure the trackerlist has some endpoints set?
//Edit: if you have WLAN or your isp doesn't support P2P or Multicast you better go back to FTP
