Title: I'd Rather Be Surfing
Post by: Howett on September 05, 2005, 08:05:26 PM
(http://www.thick-headed.com/IRBS.jpg)

This is the final release of me and Random Hero's stunt video. This is our one and, probably, only stunt video we will create for San Andreas. To get the content we like and a product that we feel is worth viewing, it takes several months to finish only one video. Obviously, we'd rather be surfing than doing this anyways, so that also made it take longer.

So, we hope you enjoy this video. It was made for you.

Download it from GTAGAMING.com (http://ftp://ftp.gtagaming.com/sanandreas/movies/IRBS.rar)

Download it from FILEFRONT (http://files.filefront.com/I%5Cd_Rather_Be_Sufing/;4101649;;/fileinfo.html)

Download it from TGA (http://www.thegamersalliance.com/?do=dynamic&id=2443)

::Music Used::

Michael Jacksons - Thriller (Remixed for Lafingputz, drummer for www.rosettaband.com (http://www.rosettaband.com))

and

Team Sleep - Tomb of Liegia

Only how3tt.  Only how3tt could make a video to Thriller.  That was great, such variety in the stunts, and some very unique ones I havn't seen before.

Shame it will be your only video.

Sweet vid dudes nothing to really falter, some stunts didnt rub me right but nothing i can pin down as outright not liking

The editing was well executed with a really cool outro. Although the editing style isnt what i like it was executed well so im not going to knock it. I really liked the SF car jump with the turismo where you angled the car to spin but also fit the gap next to the two buildings you fly past.

Also a point people should take note of: where are the packers? Sweet!

Wow
Amazing

Some of the best car stunts i've eva seen
The music was a good idea
Most of the editing was cool, but there were a few bits i didn't like
Overall, probably my new fav SA vid, pitty we won't see any more

It was a weird video, mainly cause if the music, probably would've fit a VC vid better. I an idea to open a vid with that spray can  effect, it looks nice. Stunts were good, some seemed a bit weak, but others made up for them. Nice precision was used for stunts. Editing was awesome, some super nice transitions. I didn't like how a lot of stunts were during the night, it makes it hard to see the stunt. It was a good vid.

I've never seen you on these forums but I have to say your video was sick, I've never seen car stunts like that before and I love the ending credits it was done like a professional movie or something.

I only wish you had more coming out, this ones a keeper.

A pretty cool vid guys.

Stunts: This, sadly was where the vid lacked, a few of the car stunts were awesome but TBH car stunting is a very easy concept and only smooth landings after many flips rock in my book..Stuill some awesome car stunts. Bike stunts were also a bit poor, there was some ok accidental grinds or rail spins? but they were mostly flukily done or done kinda poorly. For some of the car stunts i willg ive this 5/10.

Editing: This is where the vid had a bonus..there was some great editing done here, a cool intro and mainly good main editing..although some effects..the breaking up of the screen into 3rds for example, despite being synched was distracting and i found it annoying. Overall in the editing, there was sweeet stuff and some annoying stuff. 7/10.

Music:I myself enjoy a bit of MJ as his music is quite funky..but that remix, sorry to say to the author sucked, there was some annoying sounds in the intro to it..and where you edited between clips quickly on a bass drum roll sounded really odd. So 6/10.

Overall, an enjoyable vid to watch but nothing special in my eyes. Shame its your last cus i waould love to see you improve. 6.3/10.

[span style=\'color:red\']Well from all the positive feedback i was realy expecting better, don't get me wrong the video was great and it is definately a keeper, but i just think rating it 10/10 because if the variety is pretty strange.

Variety, 10/10
Music, 6.510
(like i always say, don't take any notice because music that you use is just purely whether or not you are into it or not, so this isn't important)
Stunts, 8/10 TBH, they did lack a little quality and end results, like sliding off the roof instead of landing on the roof.
Editing, 10/10 truely amazing right? aren't they looking for an editor for the community video?

Overall 8.9/10, i have rated quite a few videos this, because 8 seems to low and 9 seems a little high, so will stick with a 8.9, so great video, keep 'em coming and i will be happy for the rest of my days. :) cool video man.[/span]

Not trying to be annoying or anything but Brainkiller you just gave them a 10/10 for variety...to me that makes no sense..there were no plane stunts, quad stunts, no PBs or taxi stunts. Sorry again for nitpicking but some reviewers are just saying 10/10 for things that can't possibly be 10/10.

Editing:
I really did not like it. Too much "Fading a clip over just before getting stuck on the rail or fall off the roof!". :(
Couldn't find so much synching either. That "3-part-black" dissappearing effect was annoying, could've been good one time, not like five times. The outro was the good part, I liked those golden effects on the stillmotion frames. :)
2/10

Music:
Definately not my type of music. 2/10

Stunts:
I did expect alot better stunts, most of them were boring car stunts that didn't look planned. Too much "stuck-on-rail" and many old stunts. I liked about 3 stunts, the rest were boring in my opinion.
There wasn't much variety on the stunts.
3.7/10

So, you guys did a good job, but I didn't like it. I'm sure other people will like it, but I don't. I hope you'll create another vid, with better stunts and maybe some better editing to show us in the future.
3.4/10

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I appeciate it.

If car stunts are so easy... then why have I only seen like 1-2 per vid? I think bikes are a synch. I chose to do more car stunts in this video because, in San Andreas Rockstar changed that way cars move. You can now control them like bikes, and darkslides are now possible.

Darkslide: Ride up a ramp and roll your car upside down. Hit the fence on a slight angle. You'll notice that the top of the car will clip into the fence, and oh noes! a door will magicly dissapear. That means you should be locked in until you start to slow down, or you hit something.

I knew stunts is where why my video would stray from this crowd. Remember, I don't think "who can get on top of that building" is even insteresting. I've done several of them, and think to myself... this is boring as hell. So I spend all my time trying to find things that are just around. Old School stuff.

Look here, we are trying to make hard stunts here, not easy ones. And as you said, car stunts is easy, and therefore we do not make them often. Taxis is ok, because there's much more things to do with them. (They can wall-climb.)

You can now control them like bikes, and darkslides are now possible.
I hate that Rockstar Games did that, now the cars isn't fun at all.

Im not interested in them so much either, but, they are good if they come with combos, like "p2b2krail2grind2roof". [p2b = Packer to Bump]

I appreciate your point and it was an enjoyable vid dude. But people don't use many car stunts..(check my vids, there is always one) because of this easiness...It may look boring to launch high onto a roof with a bike, but its difficult and shows you have great skill in the hard aspects of stunting unlike car stunting which i find very easy.  I could probably make a car stunt movie with "good" car stunts in around 3 days with the editing also.

[span style=\'color:red\']Yes i did, but compare it to lets say...flight gear,XXL....then maybe you would give it 10/10. it has a LOT more variety than many many videos and most videos at that. So that is why i gave it 10/10. Their could have been more, but when you think of it that way then you think maybe it should be around 7/10 but i have not yet seen a video that uses every vehicle in their video so i think it will stick by the 10/10 for variety k?[/span]

10/10 is perfect..I'm not even sure any vid has had a perfect variety of stunts.

So, you want to do hard stunts?

... and car stunts are easy, but you hate that rockstar actually made them a little controllable so you do more complex stunts?

That doesn't make sense.

@Omni - This isn't a contest. I only want people to be entertained by my video. I don't care that I didn't put and boring packer bumps into my video,    They're not hard to fly down the street with ghosttown on, on a bike, and hit the last strut and go flying. I've even been doing things like that since day 1 in Vice City. Whenever I did them in San Andreas, they didn't make me feel like I had "great skill". I just think they're boring, and easy. Try to grind with a car, thats hard.

Only about 1/4th of my stunts at the max were accidental, but then again, everything using the Packer Bump is accidental. Everytime you hit you have a slightly different outcome, much like hitting a car.

Dude, you don't seem to understand my point..I am saying IMO i prefer harder stunts such as high Packer Bumps (Which you claim are easy)krail 2 grinds or just great innovative grinds, cool mountain bike stunts and combo stunts. I IMO do not like Car stunts, I find them way to easy to get good flips. I only put them in my vid because its variety.

Also, I'm not saying you can't do the "easy" PSBs and Packer bumps and other bumps but as they are harder and show more skill it is baffling not to see them in a stunt vid, and to see much easier stunts or flukey stunts is even more baffling :S.

Oh no, I get what you are saying.

It wouldn't be baffling if you knew me in real life. I hate doing whats "in" just because it's "in". I also feel that you are trying to heavily defend your point, and it doesn't need to be. Opinions are opinions, and they wont change especially because this is only a game and doesn't really matter.

If you don't like the video, then don't like it. If you do then enjoy. Thats the only reason for this video. I could care less about catering to the "in" crowd. ...and thats all im saying.

[span style=\'color:red\']Ok, i am pretty sure he enjoyed the video and he does like, i think in a way he tried to "help you", sort of, by saying it would be consdifred better if you invloved some PB's in your video, you feel that PB's are only being done because at the moment they are "in"  at the moment they are  "in"  and for that reason your video may be looked upon as better. What suits you is fine, but you were just getting a viewers opinion, viewers are the people that are watching, if the viewers doesn't like what he/she see's then he/she won't like it, they know what they want and dont want to see in a video. Sorry if this is messed up, it is hard to try to put into words how i feel and what i mean, also omni, you just un-owned your self with that intelligent reply.[/span]

i thought the whole vid whas a intro :o.
the whole vid whas in the same style as the intro. it whas just the editting that whas good but the stunts where just nice to see and didnt had the WOW factor. the transition between the stunts where very good. but everyone says it has much variaty but i didnt see it like that. i didnt saw plane stunts or taxi stunts. only some (nice) carstunts.
ratings:
stuns: 4/10

editting: 6/10 (you have skills but dont use them right)

music: 3/10 (maybe nice for a classic war movie but not for stunting)

total: 5/10 (it whas nice to see for just one time but its not a keeper)

i agree with what omni and marklund have said. the vid could have used a little more variety, and the stunts didn't seem very challenging. a lot of them seemed to rely on chance. the fact that you said you spent months working on this made me think there would be some near impossible stunts that took a lot of planning and practice, but most of these stunts seemed to be spontaneous. this is just my opinion, so don't freak out on me please. overall, i liked the vid (i don't give vids numerical ratings), i just don't understand the hype because it wasn't all that spectatular or groundbreaking, IMO.

This vid entertained me... I don't stunt in SA so i don't know what is 'in' or hard to do. But launching a gastruck over a chicken is friggin funny! Also this was my first encounter with the car-'darkslide'. Although not as well executed as mr. Mullen himself  :P , i like the fact that you showed it multiple times in the vid, which proves to me your trying to do it, so no fluke...

The stunts overall were ok, original atleast. What really pleased me was the music along with the swift editing. I recently watched Decan's Auto Stunt Reel again and it has that same fast pace to it. The nighttime in the stunts didn't bother me at all, infact it would better suit the music if the stunts were all at night.

6,8/10
