Title: SUGGESTIONS & JUDGE CRITICISM
Post by: JL on July 01, 2013, 02:22:08 PM
If you guys got anything to suggest for the health of this tournament, feel free to put your words down in this topic. Also, if you're unhappy with a recent judge decision; this is the place to post aswell.

Renember to stay nice & calm though. For the sake of mutual respect, i'll just delete any rage/disrespectful posts made in this topic. :ajaja:

Please, read and post about schedule related things in the respective topic.

Even though i'm not taking part in this competition, I hope judges stick to the objective. Stunts are as good as they look, not how difficult they are, but each to their own  :cc_detective:.

hello there, i posted that so many times in another topic, why dont post it here.
current 1 month/1 round system made me like:
i want to know, why cant you just put 8 matches at once and extend stunting time to 3 days. i mean, why cant we (participants) just be as comfortable as judges are now. also, 8 matches at once/3 days will make round 1 last 12 days to stunting, means approx. 2 weeks for only one round, which is too long IMO anyways, but not as ridiculous as this plan that works right now. i want to see finals during august or september, not fucking december. back in previous SASL's we had all matches posted at same time in each round, and that worked well. plus, you said in original sign-up's topic that first round will be clearoff. well, clear off lasting 1 month? that aint good. just post 8 or 16 matches at once, extend stunting time to 72h to make it all (imo) better. thanks.

art.... jeez :D

1. the only argument you've brought up so far is impatience on the side of the stunters (which aren't many so far)
2. really, think about point 1
3. the other sasl's had their problems too which leads me to:
4. look at how many requests i've already gotten from people that want their matches moved. if i post 'em all or most like immediatly, half of the matches will have no-shows...

just be patient, seriously. we haven't even started yet

Calm down Art, it's a good way to keep the no shows to a minimum. They way it is now moving matches is no biggie and will help a lot of people participate.

JL good freakin job. Also, don't change the challenge if people complain about it, it's a challenge for a reason. Someone did that in an earlier league, it was silly.

^That.

Just about the challenge points.. In case (depending on the challenge) there is a certain method spoken and a stunter can't perform it due to bugs (i.e despawn), would it be fine if the challenge would be changed? :o

^see, 8matches per 3 days would be way easier and faster lol

After some thinking I realized it's ok NOW that we have one match per day, but if I look forward to round 3 or 4, they will be held during school time, and I guess there will be more no-shows. So the REALLY important matches will be too late and participants won't have that much time to land stuff.

So school is the issue then? dude, I graduated more than a year ago and I can assure you work[or army in my case] is a whole lot more of a time consumer than school, and you don't get those summer vacations.
Title: Re: SUGGESTIONS & JUDGE CRITICISM
Post by: Diaz on July 05, 2013, 11:25:16 AM
And I assume you think the school is the only thing for me when it's schooltime. I play tennis 3-4 times a week, go out with friends, and yes, school will just turn harder and more serious next year. And summer vacations are not problem as you can ask for another date of your match...

Don't see the problem with having more matches. All you have to do is copy paste challenges or think of new ones

JL has about 30 challenges, thats enough for first round.

Can someone lock the topics of the matches that finished. It'll be easier to keep up with the current ones.

i'll lock them - but not immediatly... in case somebody (mostly judges) still want to loose some words about the stunts

and stuff

I'm just curious as I'm fairly new to these sort of things but how are stunts judged on? Are they judged on the style/look of the stunt or are they judged on the difficulty or whether or not a stunt is new or not?

For an example let's say the challenge is "land something higher than the bump" and one person lands SF bridge meanwhile someone lands something as small as that hedge bump in las venturas. But let's say that las venturas stunt is new, would they automatically win because it's new? Or would the SF bridge stunt be voted in because of how difficult it is in comparison?

I'm just curious as to how judges judge in this sort of thing. Do you go for creativity or do you go for difficulty?

Thanks in advance.

Post by: JL on July 06, 2013, 08:16:48 AM
Well actually, the judges have to consider atleast three elements on their voting:

1. interpretation of the objective
2. difficulty of the stunt / the dedication of the stunter
3. originality and creativity of the stunter

Those are the basic elements that i can think of. Somewhere between those, you can also add execution/looks of the stunt. However, all the judges have a different mindset about things and are certainly going to bring some of their personal preferences into the voting - which is very vital in my opinion.

If you want some more details, try looking up the judges votes on the matches that have already ended.

Hope i could answer your question. :)

As reply to diaz: I also try to run a social life[or atleast do my real life hobbies] with the leftovers of my time... obviously when in school you have a bunch loads more for it, I was a student, I know how it is.

After seeing the Promagic vs Paull match, can we expect more annoyingly written objectives? Because I am completely on Promagic's side here. Performed with =/= performed in and it can easily be confused. D:

Atleast update the same sort of challenges a little or specify in a note in the topic that you need to be driving the vehicle. Found it kind of sad to see PM lose while his stunt was a lot better.

I'll definitly triple check the formulation of the objectives on the upcoming matches. But however, some room for interpretation is supposed to be there. The more on some obj., the less on others.

Promagics case is kinda special.
It's entirely his own fault, though. The objective was clearly highlighting a specific (and quite unique) vehicle as a part of the stunt. He would've had a chance to win if he actually made use of the unique features of that vehicle, but on the stunt he landed it could've been any other vehicle, really...

Also i was really trying my best to hint out that he wouldn't get a single vote with that entry.

But again, i'll consider your words, np.

Performed in would mean that CJ did a stunt inside a combine harvester, maybe he miraculously got an nrg in there & grinded the brake pedal. I think we need a wording that is both clear & stylistically correct. Performed by driving a combine harvester, although a bit tedious, would probably be the best way to put it.

I had that in my mind (the "performed in" not being possible), but I still wrote it down. >.<' You get what I tried to say though hopefully as enough people tried to explain it already such as yourself.  :P
