Title: Moelleux
Post by: MikeyMouse on June 30, 2012, 05:51:34 PM
Moelleux

Lets get a few things straight first of all  :P. This is my first stunt montage on San Andreas (with a few cabbie boosts in vice city) so the standard of stunting is well...I've seen some of your first solos, so go easy  ;). This is also my first project on San Andreas editing wise, trying out the freeplay application and messing about with colour corrector settings. I'd appreciate any feedback on the editing side of this video for future projects :).
Just need to say a huge thank you to a few guys; Determined for recording the stunts on Vice City at the last minute + providing me with this awesome song to edit to, Art for creating the bike skin literally within 5 minutes , and cocaine for accepting me into Next Level Productions giving me the motivation to create this video, cheers guys :).
Remember to watch this in HD as well, really makes the difference, but more importantly just relax, this video wasn't designed to build up momentum, or surprise you, as the title suggest, it is simply soft and mellow :).

I hope you guys enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed creating it!

Personally, for a first solo also being considered here. I thought it was enjoyable.
Stunts overall were very good for a first solo.
Editing was great except the harsh flashes (try blending them or using the opacity to make them less harsh) and the split screen bits. They fucked my head up as it was too much to handle. stick with the masking.
I enjoyed the music also, smooth move.
Overall i would say 8/10.
Try finding more creative stunts, doesn't necessarily mean big air or grinds, just impress us.
Good job!

It was pretty good for a first, stunts, even though old, were executed quite nicely. 1:15 was fucking stylish as hell.

Personally, I think a more pale green/blue based color correction would be more fitting to the song, the grunge color was way overplayed & brought the vid down a notch. The pacing was nice & the vid did have a nice atmosphere, but the effects didn't really go anywhere, at some parts there was a real need of escalade in effects & intensity as the song grew more aggressive & dynamic. Overall the sync was nice & the vid was enjoyable, but you should work on your effects & try to conserve some of the original colors of the game.

For a first, it's a damn good vid, much better than what I did editingwise

Cheers for the feedback man, and if i'm honest I think the adrenaline of releasing this video got the better of me  I totally agree with the flash/split screen issue, could have made it easier on the eye by toning down the intensity and instead of having a split screen effect, just have one side blurred so that it wasn't such a huge contrast and fucked with your head.

Thanks :).

I knew those stunts would be old  all i'll say is I haven't viewed many SA videos, so to me these were new, they are not new here, but I honestly stumpled across all of them naturally, just like the first person who landed them :).

On the editing side of it, I was kind of limited on the CC, I only have sony vegas, and a cheap ass version at that, I dont have after effects or any of those programs, the CC in this is created by a few effects stringed together which aren't exactly designed to be a CC, for example black and white adjusters and such.

Cheers for the feedback and especially helping me out :).

I'd suggest trying a multi track CCing, you can get awesome CCs with the plainest of editing softwares. I usually do a ~27% opacity layer & play aroun with the compositing. Gradient & Bump maps are good for creating nice color mixtures, just keep the bump height at 0 & you can get a nice, intensive vignette that contrasts the colors, making it not as bland as it would be. A softly colored glow with minimal diffusion on the top layer can also do wonders   :cc_detective:

Sounds pretty good, I'll give it a try the next time I'm editing in SA  :P

the split screen things werent very cool & the flashes were too sharp imo, just fade them in & out better, rest of the editing was cool

You don't need that much runup if you're not radding since you will get your max speed pretty fast  :cc_detective:

Every first Solo almost looks like yours. Everytime the same easy stunts. Anyway keep stunting.

As I said earlier I totally agree, I rushed releasing it and should have taken a moment to alter the intensity of the flashes and come up with another way of showing the fast beats without increasing the tempo of the video.

Makes it a lot more fun though  :P

Agreed, the stunting in this is below average, but i've only been stunting for about a month now, you can't expect me to be landing 200ft buildings already

 i'll try not to do that again, and yep I do, no idea if that makes it look worse or something, thats just the settings that you start with I think.

Why?  The stunts look much better with FL:On.

But yeah, you can do that in SA, not VC though  :euro:

Watched it yesterday but forgot to comment. This is a brilliant video. Oldschool stunts with a pretty new age editing fit really good together. This is what stunting needs these days: simplicity and no pressure among who's shit is the best.

Wow cheers dude, didn't expect any comments like this if i'm honest . The simplicity was what I was aiming for here, i'm not gunna force effects in where they aren't needed, and as a first project, this was pretty much the best I could do. I'm glad you saw that side of this, the stunts are irrelevant here, might make an enitre video without stunts, without effects, just a smooth colour correction and some relaxing music :).
