Title: Unbearable aliasing on GTA IV
Post by: Determined on March 30, 2012, 03:06:21 PM
I don't know why, but my game is so fucking aliased it's painful to look at. I'm running on 1920x1080 on a 25 inch monitor, I've got all my in-game settings maxed out, vsync on & my graphics card is set to 32x CSAA (Enchance Application setting) with auto Gamma Correction enabled. As far as I know, there's no way to adjust the AA in-game so I have no idea what to do to fix this (if it's at all possible).

Here's how the game looks:

Play with definition off. I personally think it makes the game look a lot better. That's all I have to say, sorry.

GTA IV doesn't support traditional anti-aliasing. So using AA in your driver wont make a difference (and man, 32x is way too high for any modern game, go with 4x max). However, you can inject 'FXAA' into the game (Fast Approximate Anti-Aliasing). It's basically the same thing, but with much better performance and slightly less quality.

Click HERE (http://www.sendspace.com/file/j77t8z) to download FXAA. Since GTA IV runs using DX9, copy the contents of the 'd3d9' folder into the same folder as your GTA IV exe. Tada, FXAA applied. Keep definition on ;)
