Title: VC won't start...
Post by: Davve on July 08, 2011, 01:09:21 PM
I'll cut to the case...

I bought a new computer. Formatted the old HDD to W7, kept some stuff on an external HDD. SAiVC was installed on the external HDD. It used to work starting the game from the external HDD but now when I start it from there, a VC-logo appears in the task bar, it turns black as if it was starting for a few seconds and then gets minimized. If I click the VC-logo in the taskbar it keeps going black and then minimized.

Help?

Oh I get this all the time with all the VC games. But for me the black screen lasts for 0.5-1 second. Just keep mashing the button and eventually it'll start.

I use to open up internet and have it in the background and then tab into VC again, you may try that  :euro:
(By that I mean, if I have anything more but VC running I can't tab in only looking at the desktop if you get me)

Too many processes open, probably. Happened to me with SAiVC, if too much shit was running in background - it'd open and run but you couldn't actually open it up lol.

Try closing your processes and ending other tasks, no browser or messenger, then see.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Puzzle, I just tried pressing that damn logo for 2 minutes, didn't work :(

Tried your advice aswell, MaCi, didn't work either

Kingjad, I just tried closing pretty much every process there is that isn't needed for the computer to fully function. Still the same :S

Change the compatibility to Windows 98.

Is it legal version?

Might seem silly, but you could try updating your directX or video drivers. There's always the possibility the black screen isn't necessarily a halt in the program, but is rather a video issue.

Maybe try a different compatibility mode...that sometimes does the trick.

1. Click Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select System
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. In the Performance region select Settings
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
8. Click Add.
9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application.

Had a similar problem on my laptop. ^ that solved my issue.

My guess is XP, but I just did it on W7. If you got Win7, an easier way would be to hit start icon, right click on computer and go to properties. Then on the left side go to the four option that says Advanced System settings and then a box will pop up. Go to advanced tab and under performance hit settings and another box will show up. Go to the third tab and do steps 6-8.
