Title: Help an admin out
Post by: Flat Face on April 27, 2011, 08:00:42 AM
Ok so as many of ou know, my PC shat itself for the last time and I need something new.. I'm on a TIGHT budget, as close to $500 as possible but probably going to be around 6-700 :/

1st off, what I had.

Now I'm hoping to copy any of the decent parts over if possible, hopefully my ram and DVD burner can be copied over but what else can be?

Here are the machines I'm looking at getting, probably AMD because they're cheaper, I don't really plan on overclocking or anything but yeah iuno..

http://ccpu.com.au/products.php?PHPSESSID=f710c030327b89694720966e3521f1d5 (http://ccpu.com.au/products.php?PHPSESSID=f710c030327b89694720966e3521f1d5)

I'll be swapping the case for a cooler one, only $20 more and I want to get a 1gb graphics card so I can play games like IV on high settings hopefully *yeah.. I'm probably way off*

So can you guys help me out? I have a few PC tech friends in real life, like the one who showed me this site but they're all busy and you guys know what I do on my PC, so you're more likely to be more helpful :)

ALSO, those screens were from ages ago I found on my photobucket thankfully, I can't get my PC working, resetting the bios on the motherboard might get it going for a little while but I've been trying and I cannot for the life of me find the switch I need to flick :/ in other words, I can't really get any more info on the "system" I have currently.. I posted this from my phone if you're wondering.. Thank fuck iPhones are essentially mini computers lol

I cant really recommend you something + site and price and shit, but atleast like a name and close price, I can. So...
For CPU Id recommend a Intel Pentium 4 Dual CPU E5700 @ 3GHz, I have it and I can tell you, thats the best cheap CPU evur. It costs like... I dont know not more than 70-80 euros. And a Nvidia 430GT 1GB which is around 65 euros or the 2GB version - 80 euros.

Christ those do sound cheap 0.0 but Im pretty sure converted and everything, they'd be a buttoned more expensive here :/ But I'll do some googling on my phone tomorrow, give up and head to ccpu anyway lmao but if they are really that cheap and comparable to what's on the site I posted, I'll make an effort to look for them :) I honestly have no idea how to compare things, someone would need to say "this is better than this"

Take AMD instead of intel....
You can get the same performance, not much of a difference in those... Yeah, AMD does over-heat easily, but I heard they got this problem solved, so I think it wouldn't make much of a difference.

But it is definitely better to get an Intel. The prices for the i5 arent bad and for a good amd you will be paying about the same kind of price, you will get a lot more for your money with an intel.

I hate when People just say "you'll get more for your money" when I have no idea about what we're talking about lmao.. Overheating shouldn't be a problem cause I won't be overclocking plus you mentioned theyve fixed that? Other than that, if the prices are similar, are there any other defining factors between the 2?

something like this would be nice, get a tech friend to build it. Those prebuilts come with terrible cases and psus.

You could always get a lot more bang for your buck if you were less lazy and would overclock, but thats up to you.

Well you're here Greg :P and you aren the only one <3 overclocking.. If I can do it easily and it does help then I will but I Duno, I need explanations and everything so I know why and what I'm doing lmao, also why it's better than getting this gpu over that gpu etc

What happened? Worst I could see happening is you have to buy a new hard drive.
