I had installed my game to my external hard drive directly from the disc and for some reason needed to use my disc to play no matter what or I crashed. Installing it to my C drive *standard directory* then copying/cutting it to where I wanted it fixed the problem :)

Ok so I've just set my PC back up after some great fun! <_< reinstalled SA, installed a no CD crack and dannyes schtuff but the game crashes when the start menu is about to appear.. for some reason leaving the CD in the drive makes it all good but.. yeah... thoughts?

Inb4 SS declaring that no-cd cracks are the evil that will destroy the world.
Have you tried deleting your gta_sa.set file in the San Andreas User Files folder?
-
Try the HOODLUM version of SA in thepiratebay which includes HOODLUM crack. I use this version and I dont have any SA problems.

Don't download cracks from TPB just use megagames.com/fixes

Well I actually own the game so I don't really care about no cd cracks, they're just a convenience :P
The .exe I tried is the one I used to use as I downloaded it from thegtaplace that I uploaded and I tried a friends .exe which didn't work either.. if it were the crack not working then it would just tell me to insert the disc and not run at all but it goes through the intro videos and logo's then crashes just before the menu :/

My Crack : http://www.sendspace.com/file/v6d0m7 (http://www.sendspace.com/file/v6d0m7)
It works.

I've deleted it and I'm reinstalling to my C drive, see if it works there then if so, copy over to the good place  if not then I'll give your one a go :) <3
EDIT: The game runs fine with the no CD crack on my C drive at the stock destination, copying it over now to my external to see if it runs *fingers crossed* but thanks rusch :)

Might be less comfortable, but there are images for virtual CD devices aswell. Just saying, in case nothing else works :ninja:
