Title: Need help - File format "UNDF"
Post by: Noah on September 13, 2010, 07:11:51 AM
Hello! I encountered a problem recently, I can't view my .avi clips recorded with fraps. I get a different error for each player. So far I've tried Windows Media player, Quicktime player and VLC player. The clips were recorded a while ago, then put in an external harddrive while I reinstalled windows, and so, after reinstalling windows I can't view the clips anymore which is a huge shame because they were all my stunts for my JC2 duo with Slayer... Needless to say I can't import them to vegas either.

Have anyone else encountered this sorta problem?

Here's what shows up when I try to open a clip in VLC.

Tried installing other VLC versions? Looked at the options and found something that could be causing it?

I had the same problem while reformating my HDD. For somereason, it seems, that you can't move Fraps Movies to other disks than the original one. No idea why, but all of them get corrupted after doing this

Ok so what I've discovered is that "undf" means undefined, so I guess my computer doesn't recognize the files.. Renaming it to say, .wmv doesn't work either. I think the cause may be that fraps creates "movie files" instead of "wmv" which is strange because it says they're .avi on properties :C

Recorded before I reformatted

Recorded after

Still looking for someone to solve my highly mysterious problem  :cheersad:

make sure you have the version of fraps you used before or newer one because it might be a codec problem

Had the same Operating System that you had when recording? Also try opening it with MediaInfo, go to the Text tab and paste everything here.

Go to View -> Text, it should bring up complete video and audio details. In case it doesn't I don't know what to do. :P

There was some discussion about it on the VLC forums, I'll get back to you tomorrow in case you can get the information with MediaInfo.

That is a common error, doesn't help here... Sorry, I'm out of ideas as MediaInfo ain't telling anything I'd know of either.

You can try Google with "undf video", I checked out the first couple of tens of founds but they were all dead ends, you might have to re-record them all.

I can't, I recorded as I landed them since there's no replay system in JC2.

If I were to lose these I'd have to spend time re-landing all my stunts and alot of people wouldn't be to happy about that  :cheersad:

Upload one of thoose files (preferably the very smallest one) on Rapidshare and I'll take a close look on it. Would suck if that JC2 video got cancelled :(

Have you tried simply renaming the file extension to AVI?

I'm sorry to tell you. But as I said, i've tried it once again. I recorded something, changed my HDD and tried to open it :neen: :neen: didnt work.

For somereason Fraps files get corrupted after importing them to other disks or reformat a partition

Daffy might know something about it as I remember him telling me that he's having a whole different HDD just for the recordings of old videos he has edited, I might remember wrong too though. Or perhaps he's having no problems with them, don't know.

I can't be arsed to download the clip you uploaded now since I'm having my slower internet connection in use but I'll download it overnight and I'll try to come up with something tomorrow, I doubt I'll be able to though but I'll give it a shot.

So far I've found out that you will basically only need to reinstall the exact version of Fraps you got when you recorded the clips...did you do that?
Title: Re: Need help - File format "UNDF"

I downloaded the newest version once I reinstalled so the answer is no, do I need the exact same build as well?
Title: Re: Need help - File format "UNDF"

Remove the current version of Fraps you have which *should* also remove the Fraps decoder you have, after that try installing the exact same build you had when recording. Not sure why it wouldn't decode it with a newer one but I guess it's wroth a try.

I also downloaded the file but couldn't open it with any of my tools.

Tried right about every version of fraps there is, but to no luck.. I guess I'll contact Daffy tomorrow, he's my last hope  :cheersad: Thanks for your time guys, especially you Mythic.
