Pure awesome Q3 Defrag movie. Even if you aren't a fan of Quake, it's a good watch even for the editing.

Can you give me some background info on the game and what defrag is exactly.

Defrag is a mod for the original Quake 3 (not Live). It focuses on movement, speed, tricking etc, compared to Vanilla which was all about the combat. A huge community grew around it, much like we have here, a community based on playing an otherwise violent game in a non-violent way. Thousands of maps were created ranging from huge sandbox maps, to training maps to improve technique, to run maps as you see in this in which the aim is to get to the end as fast as possible, in a timed enviroment.
Strafe jumping was obviously present in the game, as it was with most previous games from the Quake/Unreal/SRC engines. It evolved into many different forms such as Single beat strafing, half beat strafing, and a few others that I don't even fully understand like inverted strafes. In short: It's possible to reach huge speed through stringing jumps together with good technique. Similarly, the various weapons you get in the game can be used to boost speed. Rockets, grenades, plasma fire and BFG fire can all be used to boost speed in solo play, along with the Haste powerup which increases movement speed aswell as fire speed (it gives the weapon and player a golden shine when equipped). All other guns including the ones I mentioned before, can be used on other players to increase speed even more in multiplayer, which opened up for alot of team-based tricking.
Defrag is usually played on one of two settings, VQ3 (Vanilla Quake) or CPM (Promode). Vanilla is obviously the original setting and uses the default physics which is slightly slower paced and is a bit more limited in the speed at which you can turn and move. CPM is much more fast paced, and allows for turning as higher speeds and some other stuff I cba explaining.
As with stunting, defrag spawned clans all over the place (see Infinite Trajectory or Event Horizon), many, many servers running the thousands of maps, and inevitably, tournaments, which are included here.

Oh, that sounds cool. Reminds of the trick jumping people do in Halo and shit. Great video.

So it's kinda like the old beginnings of surfing..
Can't really say much about the video except WHAT... QQ

pretty boring, I have to say

Editing was pretty boring tbh. There are many other defrag vids with better editing out there just like:
Mellow Darkness

or f33l

and many other, the classics (Event Horizon 1-3 bla bla etc.)

Mellow Darkness is indeed sick. Still love stuff like Aural Nirvana though, simple, but awesome. I'm more drawn to speed runs over tricking though.

That was really good video, but I prefer Negoxe's vids, they are just more enjoyable.

people say stunting is gonna die because GTA is getting outdated, yet defrag is still going strong.
