Title: fuck my video card and it's drivers.

Ok, I downloaded half life 2 (legally) so I start the game, go through the first cutscene and it crashes, saying IDdirect9 or whatever. I lowered my settings, and I went as far as after the attic place, and then it crashes again. I update my drivers and my screen goes black. I mean wtf. and then I get it from the NVidia site and it starts, but it blue screens and starts over.

so wtf is going on and why does half life 2 hate me so?

Nvidia geforce 6100 nforce 405 is my card.

i had the same problem with the same game, when i installed new drivers of my ATI, so i changed it for them received in a cdrom with the card, and work :]

The message say something like this 0xC000009C ? memory patati patata ?

BTW, HL2 best game ever for me  started and finished in one weekend

Try deinstalling the old driver first. Re-Install a new driver (make sure you don't pick a beta one), then re-install directx
If the problem still exists after that, contact the support or launch half life with:

mat_dxlevel 81
or
mat_dxlevel 80
or
mat_dxlevel 70

But you should keep it at 81 if it works that way, 70 would look bad..
