Here's the parts I'm about to order:
ANTEC Nine Hundred Case
700w power
Intel P35 Motherboard
Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66Mhz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
4gb 1066Mhz DDR2
500gb SATA
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+
Does this sound okay?
-
Ill reinforce what i said on msn so your thread doesnt get lonely.
I think so
-
what will you be doing on it?
gaming/editing/3dmodelling..etc?
-
Absolutely everything.
-
I would say yes.
-
Change graphics card to 4870 1gb. Then you got a nice build
-
Indeed Joe, from what I have heard the 4870 is really good! Might be some more cash, but when you go for a set-up like that, you better get it all right.
-
I prefer Nvidia. So I think it's a good build but if you have some more money you could buy a 9800GX2. It has much more performence. btw. how manny costs you're new comp?
-
4870 X2 is where it's at Even a single 4870 would be better than a 9800GTX.
-
Get this (http://www.alienware.com/products/area-51-alx-desktop.aspx?SysCode=PC-AREA51-ALX-R8&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT)
-
how much cost?
-

correction the hd4850 is allready better.
-
That's a nice build, but the NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+ is a bit crappy, so get a GTX 280 (if you prefer nvidia) or a hd4850 (if you prefer ati).
-
It's not about what you prefer, its about performance and quality. ATI out performs nVidia.
-
4870 512mb rule

GDDR5 gfx cards, arent good yet, if u check Guru3D tests, ull see even GTX260 and 9800GTX are pwning it
-
With the ATI the system costs $1608, and with the Nvidia it costs $1518. $90 difference.

Get the HD 4830 or Hd4850 or HD 4870 or HD 4870X2
Depends on what's your budget....
^and bullshit xtremeomega, the HD 4850 owns the 9800GTX+ and HD 4870 pwns the GTX 260

Choose the best options, but don't exceed $1800.
-
Do you need an OS with it?
-
I don't think so, I think we'll be transferring the hard drive from my current PC to the new one.
-
are you on Vista currently? because if you're on XP, there's no need to get 4gb RAM
-
Get a radeon x300.
-
LULZ TORQUE MADE JOKZ
Nah I'm on XP, and I know it only takes 2gb, but dad seems to be going for the 'bigger is better' approach.
-
lol I build something decent for 1200..
ATI 4850
Q6600
1TB HDD
2GB 1066mhz ram
itll be enough
-
Uhm, you said you want to use the system for "everything", well then to get all the "power" out of that system, I'd recommend to use a 64bit OS, Vista Ultimate x64 for an example. The difference between 32bit and 64bit is for an example the RAM usage. You can use 4GB RAM with 32bit, and you can use like 128GB RAM with 64bit. I know that nobody these days has that much RAM, but who knows what's coming in the future.

Aight, how's that list? New cost is $1413.
-
Perfect.
-
Damn..you got that dough Haywire..
-

My dad has, he's buying it for my yearly 'big present'.
-
I haven't had a present that size in my entire life <_<
-
I never ask anything of my parents, not even pocket money.
-
erhm, Is CF enabled on that mobo? If it isnt... then you dont need that big of a PSU IMO
But then again, for future upgrades I think its a great idea
LoL, forgot to ask this, whats your res? if its 22 under then a HD 4850 could handle games pretty well
-
Can I have your dad? My dad doesn't even pay Child Support...
-
My dad doesn't let me go out at night.
-
I have nowhere to go.
-
YEAH WELL I DO SO FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

P35 does NOT support crossfire, if you want it to support CF you should either get a P45 ( which will support crossfire running both slots at 8x instead of 16x ) or a x48 which supports crossfire fully ( 16x on both slots when Cf is unabled ).
-
Aghhhh computer language fucks with my head... just say whether or not my choice is good.
-
it is, but you will NOT be able to run crossfire.
-
DO I NEED CROSSFIRE, IF NOT THEN STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.
-
What the hell is Crossfire?
-
oh hey
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATI_CrossFire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATI_CrossFire)
google comes through again!
-
So... he wouldn't be able to use multiple graphics cards?
-
yes.
-
No, you don't need a CrossFire supported motherboard, so quit about it as he asked so. I'd take TB's HDD, 500GB filled out kinda quick in my use at least, getting a new one within a month though.
-
Err, what happened with the evolution of ATI? Not too long ago, the 8800 GTX Ultimate pwned the 3870
Im just shit with computer stuff, mainly go for Apple computers, they just work, no need to bitch on forums about specificatons and such.
-
^ You better be joking.
-
lol ya blue. your crazy. I liked Boxxx's build
-
I would also go with boxXx's build seems like a nice one
-
danke
i am getting some new parts tommorow or this saturday i am talking about :

Ati HD4850 ( second one gonnarun crossfire ill post a topic when i get my shit )
-
I don't know if I should get a 4850 as I only play VC and WoW, got a 9800 GTX atm
-
^No point in upgrading if your just playing those games.
-
I think I'm gonna go with the list I made at the start of page 3. Thanks for the help guys.
-
How much better is it to go with a quad core instead of a dual core?
-
Well for example, a 2.4ghz quad core is pretty similar to a 3ghz dual core, and it's much better for rendering. It's also good for multi tasking and games which are optimised for multi core. I've got a Q6600 and it's great, can't find anything bad to say about it
