Post by: Jason on October 27, 2008, 02:41:28 AM
Here's the parts I'm about to order:

ANTEC Nine Hundred Case
700w power
Intel P35 Motherboard
Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66Mhz
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
4gb 1066Mhz DDR2
500gb SATA
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+

Does this sound okay?

Change graphics card to 4870 1gb. Then you got a nice build

Indeed Joe, from what I have heard the 4870 is really good! Might be some more cash, but when you go for a set-up like that, you better get it all right.

I prefer Nvidia. So I think it's a good build but if you have some more money you could buy a 9800GX2. It has much more performence. btw. how manny costs you're new comp?

4870 X2 is where it's at  Even a single 4870 would be better than a 9800GTX.

Post by: Lyserg on October 27, 2008, 09:28:07 AM
That's a nice build, but the NVIDIA GeForce 9800GTX+ is a bit crappy, so get a GTX 280 (if you prefer nvidia) or a hd4850 (if you prefer ati).

Post by: Joe on October 27, 2008, 10:36:19 AM
It's not about what you prefer, its about performance and quality. ATI out performs nVidia.

Uhm, you said you want to use the system for "everything", well then to get all the "power" out of that system, I'd recommend to use a 64bit OS, Vista Ultimate x64 for an example. The difference between 32bit and 64bit is for an example the RAM usage. You can use 4GB RAM with 32bit, and you can use like 128GB RAM with 64bit. I know that nobody these days has that much RAM, but who knows what's coming in the future.

erhm, Is CF enabled on that mobo? If it isnt... then you dont need that big of a PSU IMO

But then again, for future upgrades I think its a great idea

LoL, forgot to ask this, whats your res? if its 22 under then a HD 4850 could handle games pretty well

P35 does NOT support crossfire, if you want it to support CF you should either get a P45 ( which will support crossfire running both slots at 8x instead of 16x ) or a x48 which supports crossfire fully ( 16x on both slots when Cf is unabled ).

No, you don't need a CrossFire supported motherboard, so quit about it as he asked so. I'd take TB's HDD, 500GB filled out kinda quick in my use at least, getting a new one within a month though.

Err, what happened with the evolution of ATI? Not too long ago, the 8800 GTX Ultimate pwned the 3870

Im just shit with computer stuff,  mainly go for Apple computers, they just work, no need to bitch on forums about specificatons and such.

How much better is it to go with a quad core instead of a dual core?
Title: This a good build?
Post by: Daksad on October 31, 2008, 03:39:35 PM
Well for example, a 2.4ghz quad core is pretty similar to a 3ghz dual core, and it's much better for rendering. It's also good for multi tasking and games which are optimised for multi core. I've got a Q6600 and it's great, can't find anything bad to say about it
