Title: Game crashes on loading
Post by: Xtramus on September 21, 2008, 02:43:41 AM
I tried installing VC again and when I start a new game or try loading one it crashes once the loading bar gets to about 1/2. My drivers are up-to-date, I have all the updates for XP (including SP3), and re-installing doesn't help.

According to the R* site, my PC should be able to run it normally. I'm using my old graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 2 MX/MX400), which worked on my old PC just fine, with the only real change in hardware being a 1.7 GHz processor instead of a 800 MHz one.

So seriously, why the fuck does it crash and how do I fix this shit?

Try removing the gta-vc.set out of your VC user files and run a new game

Too bad our help wasn't enough in the private, I suppose you could ask Fighter or Knapman if they still want to upload the game on some site ? I had it on megaupload a while ago, but lost the link so yeah.

run vc with the cracked exe.....or use the original with the CD in......or use the SOL exe.....also make sure you have all original files in the data folder, no custom scm or anything like that.

^ That was ehh...really needed..

The problem probably won't be with your PC, I'd say just simply reinstall it, don't forget to use the cracked exe. Should work then and only after it ran in this way start to put ultimate main.scm and the thing you need for.
EDIT: nice to see you're back

Delete the current VC completely and download a release named Grand_Theft_Auto_Vice_City-FLT (no, it's not warez to say the release's name as you can do nothing with it) from a good source and install it, place the cracked gta-vc.exe to the folder and try running it without any modifications.

/ @Neotec

Stop that spamming here.

OK so I got VC to work (yay!) but it crashes after like 3-5 minutes

It gives me either an unhandled exception error, an error saying Windows encountered an error and VC needs to be shut down, it crashes or I get to see the blue screen of death for a less then a second and my PC reboots.

Does anybody know why FFS it does this? Any help would be appreciated.

Try running vc with 3danalyze's windowed mode. http://files.filefront.com/3D+Analyseexe/;...;/fileinfo.html (http://files.filefront.com/3D+Analyseexe/;6620315;/fileinfo.html)
It's a long shot but it's been a miracle cream for my VC throughout the year.

Thank you Mr.Magic! I didnt know there was windowed mode for VC

Does it require a clean VC?

A link to the mod FF mentioned, in case anyone is curious:

http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtop...t&p=2785450 (http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=186404&view=findpost&p=2785450)

(Yeah FF, I finally found the source)

Its a good mod, much simpler than 3D Analyse (and unlike 3DA [at least for me] it works with LC too). Only real problem is that its not 'just' a Windowed Mode Mod, its a graphical changing mod which just happens to give you the ability to enable windowed mode. The default configuration does indeed change the look of the game, not by much however (fraps a clip with and without the mod to confirm) - that said, all the configuration stuff can be changed, so perhaps you can figure out how to get it back to normal, or you can get it to look better than normal, I dunno, or you may like it how it is (it didn't bother me too much, so I chose to use it as my windowed mode mod of choice when recording clips for Yeah Baby). Actually, there is one other minor annoyance, you'll see if ya try and use it, it doesn't counter the usefulness of it though.

What I would like to know is why no-one seems to have ever made a simple windowed mode mod for VC, there's quite a few for SA.

You need the limiter adjusted gta-vc.exe for 3danalyze to work with LC. I could upload mine if you wanna.

@Cdarmy: Nope.
