When ever i play SA or have lots of programs running my pc will just restart itself... I did some research and i think i have a RAM virus. i dunno how the hell i got it or how to get rid of it. Can someone shine some light on the situation please
-
Maybe your cpu is overheating or something, check the shutdown temperatures and current temperatures.
-
Its VemonX to the rescue again , how exactly do i do this?
-
Google for "Everest"
Pretty cool programm where you can see your PC's specs and the temps
-
Do i have to pay for this Everest?
EDIt: i was on something else nvm
-
speedfan? dunno, some friends told me about it.
-
I tried Everest but i cant find anything about temperatures or anything :/
EDIT: This it?

Is this bad results?
-
try speedfan then
-
The CPU seems to be very hot with 67° , what kind of CPU do you have ?
-
CPU Type Intel Pentium 4 516, 2933 MHz (22 x 133)
-
lol mine was ever 73, i had putted the wrong RAM and he was gonna be hot lol
-
Okay now go play the game , tab out after you played for a while and check the temps again
-
Ok i did what you said and the temp was about 64° but this time i only had SA and Everest running. Also the highest resolution i could get playable was the one after 800 x 600 even though i could do HQ before.
-
When you only can choose 800x600 or 860x480 it seems that your graphics card got overheated once and now some things arent working properly on it. If you have any other graphics card, build it in and test. If it doesnt works, then it may be also your motherboard or CPU. Or even the RAM, but I dont think so.
-
I dont have any other graphics cards. I think it may be the fan that cools down the CPU thats broken maybe? or slower than usual. Is there any way to find this out?
-
Open the case and take a look. Might be full of dust. You should always clean your fans every once and a while.
-
I dont think that dust would do this . When i opened my comp (it was infinity's comp . im using infinitys comp . thatswhy infinity doesn't stunt right now . ) Anyway . The comp was full of dust and it worked perfectly for Infinity
-
Dust is like a computer version of aids. Dirty and can fuck you up.
-
Of course there is hardly no noticable effect, but the tempatures can get higher and that will fuck your components up in the long run.
-
Oh . Thatswhy this comp is so fucked up
-
Ok iv tried to clean the inside of my pc and well... i think i just made things worse. The temp of the CPU has gone from 60 to 90, the CPU usage is constantly at 100%, the CPU Throttling(i have no idea what that means) line has turned red and my fans are making a strange noise . i did unplug some things inside the but i replaced them properly, i think.

sounds like the heat sink isn't on properly, or it is just broken. I'm guessing you have a basic heatsink and it isn't waterbased or liquid nitrogen, so open up your case, and turn on the machine.
Check to make sure all the fans you see are working correctly. If one isn't (which I'm presuming its not) then turn off your machine, ground yourself and then ensure that no power is getting to it. Then follow any wires to this fan and make sure they are plugged in.

I did take the heatsink out to clean but im sure i put it on properly. But when i was cleaning it there was some sticky stuff (looked like solid dust - so i cleaned it off) in between it and the processor. Should i have cleaned that stuff?
I dunno what you are calling a basic heatsink but heres a quick drawing of mine. Its sorta curved with blades going right across it and a plate at the top for the fan to screw onto.

Also can you explain how i may have broke it while cleaning it? It just looks like a piece of metal to me :S.
-
With what did you clean it?
-
With what did you clean it?
A vacuum cleaner
Oh no, i just read that its not advised to use vacuum cleaners to clean the pc
-
i once took my computer down to my dad, he had some huge ass vacuum blower thing
-
With vacum cleaner you might pull something tiny in ..

its not a strong vacuum and wouldnt the computer just break altogether is something was sucked in? Im more concerned about the static that the vacuum creates that might have broke my pc :S

I believe that was the Thermal paste.. and if im right that wasn't a good idea to clean it off.

gonna get me some new thermal paste
-
Yeah, Stormlexer beat me to it, when cleaning your machine try not to mess with the processor too much if your not experienced. Definitely don't use a vacuum, though I've never tried it, I wouldn't recommend it.
-
Yeah .. Vacum cleaner sucks for PC . . Not for mine beacause i want to blow it up .P
-
Don't use a vacuum cleaner, use c4 then.
-
Lol . It will blow his whole house down xD
-
Not really... It would if he used a lot of c4. Alternatively you could use c, c2 or c3.
