Title: Sky Modification
Post by: Brulla on February 24, 2008, 09:48:37 AM
Hello.

Does anyone know how to modify the timecyc to get only a blue sky with clouds? I would need a timecyc which changes the original weather of the replay into a blue sky with clouds @ noon. Samurai was only able to make it to show two kinds of weather; clear blue sky and the blue sky with clouds on it. Unfortunately it changes the replay's weather (where for example it's raining) to the clear blue sky, instead of the blue sky with clouds. If you have recorded the replay with the blue sky with clouds however, it won't change it.

Any ideas/tips would be greatly appreciated!

I added the timecyc incase someone could take a look.

I'm just speculating here but I think the replay file is only a list of redirections. Redirections to timecyc.dat, carcols.dat, gta3.img, co-ordinates etc. So if we could edit the .rep file we could probably switch the redirection code for time in the .rep. But since we can't, we have to change the code which the .rep redirects to in the timecyc, to the one that codes for the weather we want to have.

As for you Brulla, just change all the weather configurations in to the one you want. It should work.

Yeah...I should only know what the thing I want even is in those numbers.

Already changed the timecyc to all cloudy afternoons, and to no avail. rainy reps are sunny, but sunny isn't cloudy, and sunny reps aren't cloudy either

@MM: that won't work.

Indeed this would be a handy power to have. I've tried a few methods out myself but to no avail.

It's impossible. The weather is saved into your rep like your players movement, theres nothing you can do to change it.

Maybe you can, when you find out how's the .rep file crypted. So you decrypt it and yeah, can change everything and crypt it again.

I reckon it'd be possible with memory editing, but with my limited knowledge of it, I haven't been able to do it (I've been able to make a tool that changes the weather, but it doesn't affect the reps... the question is why - whether the weather info stored in the rep is overwriting the updates my tool makes so quickly that you don't notice any change in the replays, or because when viewing a replay the weather info is stored in a different memory address, or ... etc. As I said, I don't really know much of what I am talking about)

We can see that.

I've never edited timecyc.dat. But isn't there something similar to the carcols' rgb values in it?

You can change the weather of the replay into clear blue sky for example, so think again.

I had some potential results with the old Weather Tool 1.5 (http://planetgrandtheftauto.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Apps.Detail&id=56). I was able to get clouds into a replay which was recorded with a clear blue sky, but the clouds kept flashing. I think it's worth looking into, could you bright people take a look at it?

Yeah, changing the colours of the sky seems to be fine, and can be done through timecyc editing, but when it comes to adding/removing (not sure about 'removing' - just assuming) clouds that weren't already there, thats the problem.

I've gotten the same thing Brull. When I made a little prog to change the weather via memory editing, it worked fine in normal gameplay, but during replays, all it did was make it have seizures  (I assume either the same, or a similar, thing as you, with the clouds flashing). I guess my thing was essentially doing the same thing that the program you found was.

On another note, I started delving deeper into memory editing, and I found my first ever useful memory address (previously I'd just look at already documented ones on GTAForums), it felt pretty cool

I should be in bed by now but I am now addicted to trying to figure this out.
Most importantly, I think I may have hit the jackpot.
More soon.

If we could find a way to decrypt it

Soon = now.

As far as I can tell its a success.
I just tested on a rep that I had previously recorded with perfect sunny (no clouds) weather, and I was able to change the weather IN the replay to whatever I wanted - foggy, cloudy, sunny w/ clouds, rainy.
Cool!
I'll send out a quick test to Brulla so I can get an independent test (to make sure that its not 'just me' that its working for).

Dannye is a frigging genious.

Yeah, he was able to crack it. There are some minor problems in some replays (haven't located what's causing the problem yet), but in most of the replays, it works like a charm!

As for your question DarkPhoenix, I'm sure he will release it soon. Knowing Dannye, I think he wants to try to solve the few minor problems before releasing it.

Three big hip hip hurrays to the brilliant Dannye!

Thanks Brulla.
@DP: Brulla pretty much covered your question. I probably wont release a tutorial, but I'd be happy to release a tool for doing it, once the kinks (if possible) are ironed out.

It would involve making your own trainer (or using some memory editing program).
