Title: Black'n'White Effect
Post by: THEFTman on November 24, 2007, 04:47:48 AM
Ok, very nice looking effect you can get without actually installing "black and white mod". I've noticed the same kind of effect in the well known Sin City movie.

The result will look like this:
VIDEO (http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=b38wvqNZSXw)

NOTE: You better use Red color bike, but any will do.

To start, add "Color Correction (Secondary)" FX to your footage.
Find "Select Effect Range" and choose the color of your bike. Then click on "Invert mask".

Now use these setting:

Play with the Limit Hue "Smooth" and you're done.

how did it happen like that?

isnt it that the b&w mod is an ALL gray city, so how did the effect choose some parts to be the only red ones

anyways,it looks cool

The "Black and White" mod works like it leave the Car's colors/blood/player skin

so does my video method =/ well, not the skin, but the bike

well, the settings could be adjusted better, also, the point of the tutorial wasnt to "pwn" the Black'n'White mod... It's about the effect ^^

Good tutorial THEFTman.

Jessrocked: I think the point with this tutorial was to show how a certain technique works so you can adjust it for your needs, not a preset of an effect you can just apply to a clip.

Nice tutorial. I did something like this on plumpegg's stunt in Interlocked, but I had other effects on the track so it wasn't really black and white and therefore not very visible.

1. I think you should make a layer with a normal black and white effect and you should add this layer (i mean: your effect layer) to the top.

2. Then you should add cookie cutter fx to the top layer.

3. You dont have to be extremely precise, just make some oval like cookie cut form around the motor. (because the roads, highways etc. don't contain red and any bright colors you dont have to be precise with the form of the cutter)

With this method you can avoid other colorized stuff in the video, like the red banner on the building in your example. Or i hope so 1.

Theft, all this does is isolate one color :/ I mean... I suppose it would've saved a little time, but it's not... great >.>

Is there a way to center the effect on the middle of the screen?

So there is only the color part in the centre?

Use Cookie Cutter or Mask tool

Actually, there is a preset for your tutorial @ Color Corrector Secondary. It's name is: "Desaturate all but reds".
