Today I saw a video on YouTube of a guy playing Doom on his iPod. Then I looked in the video info to see if it showed how he did it. And lucky me, it did.
Anyway so I googled the firmware he was using and tryed it out. And I think this thing is just the greatest fucking thing on earth.
Rockbox is an open source replacement firmware for mp3 players. It runs on a number of different models:
* Archos: Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2 and Ondio
* iriver: H100, H300 and H10 series
* Apple: iPod 4th gen (grayscale and color), 5th/5.5th gen video, 1st gen Nano and Mini 1st/2nd gen (Nano 2nd gen is not supported)
* Cowon: iAudio X5 (including X5V and X5L), M5 (including M5L)
* Toshiba: Gigabeat X and F series (the S model is not supported)
* SanDisk: Sansa E200 series (the R models are not supported)
The features of it is just pwnage too. It has plugins where you can play a number of things and some other crap I havn't gotten around to checking out yet. You can also download/make themes for it and play pacman but i'm not sure how yet about that.
It's fairly easy to setup if you have little knowledge of your ipod.. Which you should.
Anyway if you do have an iPod I really recommend checking this out.
Download (http://build.rockbox.org/) - Manual(How to install) (http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml) - Extras (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/RockboxExtras) - Rockbox.org (http://www.rockbox.org)

Did you read the installing instructions?

Yeah, but the ipod I have isn't on there so I randomly picked one and installed that. So yeah, its probably my fault that it doesn't work.

Yep, I think so. Can you see anything for a 4GB iPod Mini? They only have 1 and 2 gig ones on there.
-
I've found something similar to this, its called iPodWizard or summin' like that. Haven't tried it yet but you can do different fonts, put backround images and shit like that.
