I just installed it and it's pretty fucking sweet. Can't wait until software developers like Adobe and Game companies start porting over to it
Anyone else got it?
-
Ubu...Wtf? What is it?
Edit: Ahh. An OS. I figured it was. Is it any good?
-
Yes it's amazing, 10x faster and just....plain better than windows. I can without a doubt say that in the next year or two this will be very very popular, and nearly all of the top software developers will be making Ubuntu versions.
-
That's good, since I think Vista kinda flopped.
-
From where you downloaded ubuntu? I want try it.
-
Tell us more! Where can we get it?
Edit, heard this is some sort of linux-distro, hard to get the os?
-
In our school's comp room are Ubuntu's. Not in all but quite many. But no-one uses them because theyre internet wont work... They should fix them....
-
Can we get some pics ?
-
Google is youre friend
-

I'll take some pictures tonight. You can order the CD's to install it.
Basically yeah it's a Linux Dist, it's free and open source. It's 10x faster than windows, everything is automatic I swear.
Google ubuntu and download/order CD.
The CD can be used live, meaning you can use the OS without installing, although can be limited and i would suggest installing.
-
It looks gay as hell, I haven't tried it but I should, sometime, I guess.
-
Can you install GTA on it?
-
Can you install GTA on it?
I dunno, Aries can answer to that. But i think that YES!
-
It's kinda tricky to get Gta to work, but you can yes. Still trying to get my gamepad working in it at the moment.
-
ehhh aries? when i told you to use linux about 1 year ago you said i should shaddap... you are confusing sometimes

http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb/screenshot...reenshot_id=304 (http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb/screenshots/single.mhtml?screenshot_id=304) (using cedega and wine. some of the games run better than on windows here)
http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb/screenshot...reenshot_id=765 (http://games.cedega.com/gamesdb/screenshots/single.mhtml?screenshot_id=765) (As you can see, SA still lags, but in 5.0 and above it runs fine here - you gotta test that for yourself)
FireFox is available for Linux, you also got miranda to run on wine, 3dsMax should have a linux version - although theres blender and in school we used gmax on wine, imgtool doesnt work afaik but you can try using wine. Moomapper - no idea, i think it wouldnt work

Yeah Aries, i been using ubuntu for ages now, Fedora 7 is out now, looks a lot betetr as fox said. Use 'wine' to emulate windows apps and games.
-
Seems lovely. I saw some interfaces better than the vista one imo as well. I'll try it without doubt if it's faster than wxp, until now i only saw on other computers!
-
Fox, that was a year ago, I used to think Linux didn't have a great interface, things have changed
-
I'll use it if it can run:
VC
SA
3DS Max
IMGTool
Moo
Firefox
MSN
You can use aMSN, it looks like MSN Messenger. I've been using it for months, when I didn't have internet on windows I think the latest version is 0.96
-
Hail linux!
I would run either Ubuntu or Fedora on my computer, but for now, I'll have to do with Windows, 'cause other people in my family wish to use my computer too, and they are not very technical. ...and I'm too lazy to run cross-platform.
-
Fox, that was a year ago, I used to think Linux didn't have a great interface, things have changed
The distro you are using has an OK UI.
What is wrong with ubuntu.
It is the worse distrobution of linux ever made. I suggest, Fedora (yay server running it), Debian (definately a good one) or SuSe (ok, but I think they try and charge you now - fucking sluts)
Also, if you want to get the most out of your linux distro, don't rely on the fancy buttons.
-
Let's summerize this: ANY Linux OS is better than Windows .
-
btw, stop bashing vista. its great.
i have 2 PC's in my room, 1 running Ubuntu, and 1 with Vista ultimate.
aries, you goto try beryl in ubuntu, its kick ass !
-
Vista is bad. It's poorly designed (both looks and functions), and does not meet the standards that many other (FREE) OS:s do. Vista also makes the computer slow and chunky, just like peanut-butter.
So if you wanna spread some peanut-butter on your PC, go ahead =).
-
Windows only think about style, which sucks. For an example: how much better is Windows Media Player 11 than 10? Not much, but it looks better. That's Windows in a nutshell.
-
Ralleee, i'm running vista it it owns. It does everything XP did, looks great, runs all my games and just freaking does it all
I'm removing XP from my HDD soon and just having Vista.
-
Aries, now when some time has passed, could you please write a bit of what you think about Ubuntu? Are you still happy with it, had any big problems and so on?
-
It's still good, but I use XP nearly 99% of the time, 100% due to the fact not many programs are compatible in Ubuntu..
-
I googled "Ubuntu" and came up with some entires when I wanted to see how it looked like, I went to the images tab and uh...well..you'll just have to see for yourself...
-
Torque: Linux is the Core. The thing you see is actually the User interface, you can also run linux in console mode without.
the most common ui are KDE and Gnome, but there are also some which show your PC in 3D, so you can be the player in your filebrowser etc where each directory is a door etc
However, most of the UI are fast and ready for user customization.
But on the other hand, there are some with memory leaks bringing Linux to Windows level *bah*
