Right. This thread is for me to post my computer specs, tell you what I'm going to buy, discuss my dilemma's etcetera. Please refrain from telling me what do to, and keep all fan boy/uneducated talk out of here. I will just delete posts which aren't serious or start with 'OMFG GET THE PWNAGESAUCE'
Current[/u]
Motherboard
MSI Nvidia Nforce 4 K8N. (Socket 939). Nothing really special about it, it's good enough for most components out there today. HERE (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo4-F&class=mb) is a product page of it.
Processor
AMD Athlon 64x 3000+ (Socket 939). This is my downfall, 3000+'s aren't exactly the most powerful you can get, but they aren't too bad either. I have a possible problem with it though, I'll explain later.
Graphics Card
Point of View Nvidia GeForce 7600GT 256mb DDR3 PCI-E. As you will know, this graphics card is very good, probably the best part of my computer.
RAM
I've got 1.5gb of DDR RAM. It's good, nothing much to say really.
The problem
I cannot record in VC on 1280x1024x32. Which I find slightly odd, because I should be able to no problem.
That is also with the Nvidia settings (Application controlled off) on 2x AA and 2x AS.
When I got my new motherboard, about a year after getting the processor. I was pressing the processor into the slot, and I bent like 6 pins. Of course I shat myself there and then, but after regaining control of my bowels I managed to carefully bend the pins back.
I somehow think that has come back to haunt me, and it slowing the speed of the processor down a large amount.
So now I need a new processor, I start to look around and notice the 'Heat' has gone off Socket 939's. Which a while back were like, the best socket. All focus is on AM2. I want an AM2 socket processor, but of course that means getting an AM2 motherboard to work with it.
That would set me back at least £150, which yes I have but I'd rather not.
What's your opinion on my situation, do you know of any good solutions? Any processors you could recommend, any motherboards you could recommend?
Input please
-
you could get a job to get your 150 ore change the resolution of recording?
-
I do need to get a job, just a tad lazy lol.
-
Recording at 1280*1024 makes quality totally horrible, unless you render at 1280*1024 but that will make a 3 minute video a huge file size. You'd be better off just recording at a lower resolution.
-
Ok SabotagE, still I want to get a better processor. That recording thing is one of the many reasons I want to upgrade.
-
Well I don't know what you prefer, so I'll leave you to that one.
-
Omg , thats a nice comp , I can record in 1024x768 in SA with my shitty comp O_o
Intel Pentium ® 1,99ghz , 512MB Ram , GeForce 4 Mx460 64MB .... but only on the lowest settings .
-
lol...
get a AMD Athlon 64x 3800+ (Socket 939)
and your done just buy it its good and if you want you can overclockit to 4000+ without any problems

Changing the mobo would cost you more than just 150, as you would need different RAM too in most cases.
-
I wouldn't need different RAM, still gonna be DDR compatible mobo lol.
-
get a laptop, some really nice ones are cheap but they are working cool, what you also can do is get like 100 dollars and just buy all parts of a computer at a trading market.
-
"Full-size video capture is limited to a maximum of 1152x864 (4:3) or 1280x800 (widescreen)."
So...recording @ 1280x1024 would make it look horrible anyway, but because it's higher than the max full size resolution it should record @ half size...meaning it wouldn't put as much stress on your computer (eg. recordng @ 1024x768 @ full size is 'harder' then recording @ 1024x728 @ half size) you will get 30fps recording @ half size for sure but not @ full size (1024x768 was just an example, i know your computer can record that res without problems)
Maybe you should stick to mine/daffy's tutorial, my computer is crap and I can make a video 1280x720 with full AA and full AF and the video still be a constant 30fps...
-
Maybe get a good laptop, then you can stunt in bed and then wank to porn in bed...
I'm on a desktop and it's getting shitty already ( only had it 9 mounths ) a good laptop can last, year and a half ?
-
Laptops aren't easily upgradeable and they are gay. End of story.
Simon, I actually tried 1024*768*32 today with AA and AS on about 2x, lagged like hell. I dunno what the fuck is up. TheAwa didn't even lag on that.
-
I somehow think that has come back to haunt me, and it slowing the speed of the processor down a large amount.
im sorry but thats impossible, it is possible that all the thermal grease could of fried causing your processor to hit a throttle point , you could get some new not so stock grease.
like AS5
BUT i would get a new processor because that one is kinda slow anyways.
7600GT aint all THAAAT great.... gfx cards are dirt cheap now unless you wanted a DirectX 10 card.
^^^likely not your problem
Id go for an opteron 165, i jut got this BAD ASS PROCESSOR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103588 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103588)
If your lucky like me you can get a good stepping and overclock it to 3GHz no problem (if your board will allow that high of an FSB)
even at stock 1.8 GHz this som bitch is FAST AS HELL with its 2x1MB L2 and 2x 128kb L1 Dual core stuff
When overclocked this is the fastest 939 processor out
TEH KICK ASS!!!!!
-
I don't really know about overclocking, and WTF is opteron?
-
You shouldn't be recording at 1280x1024 anyways, it shows 2 black bars on the side of an average joe that uses a CRT monitor, that's why I use 1280x720. Try it sometime, make sure you have widescreen on.
-
Yeh I use 1280x720x16 now it's all good people.
-
Opteron is a Server processor, its the same thing as an athlon but its designed to run for months at a time PRIME stable, thats one of the reason it overclocks soooooooooo well.
www.overclock.net <<< great place to learn about overclocking and computers in general.
That opty 165 makes a hell of a gaming processor
-
CLICKY (http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/91328/rb/24303458057)
Was thinking about that, looks nice.
-
the opteron is faster than that
-
^Yeah but why would you get one? At the end of the day you just want a PC that does what you want it to reasonably well and if you're a gamer, with good graphics. No need to go over the top.
-
Laptops aren't easily upgradeable and they are gay. End of story.
It's not gay Wish I had a normal comp though, watching porn in bed is overrated
-
I think your computer is good as it is, who can honestly disagree when i say The Awakening looked bloody awesome!
-
Laptops aren't easily upgradeable and they are gay. End of story.
I have been useing LapTop for 2 years already

I cant seem to get that quality anymore. That was 1024x768x32. 4x AA and 2x AS. But now I try that, it doesn't lag but it goes to about 12fps and stays there. Either way, I still want a new processor

Ok, just personally I don't like them
-
Either way, I still want a new processor
You're just a spoilt little kid who wants more and more

Coming from you. Mr 'AMMIGAWD I JUST GOT A NEW RAPTOR ITS SHAKING MY DESK......I NEEEED ANOTHER ONE!"
-
Haha my attempt at being a hypocrite worked just as planned

Well how much is £150 in USD and think about it, would you really want to spend that much money for recording stuff out of a video game that was released 5 years ago?
You have so much in your life that you can do with £150 and you might probably really need it some day.
-
I know i would... but i'm a fucking geek though so don't listen to me.
