Like THEFTman said, you need to make the border in Photoshop or some other image editing program. After that, it's just a matter of making the border image into a title overlay. If you still want to know how to do it, I'll try and make a tutorial.

I don't know if this is easy to understand, but here...

http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9337/fi...m2fancybga0.png (http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/9337/finallighttutwmm2fancybga0.png)

and a video showing the border.

http://download.yousendit.com/07764205529B7067 (http://download.yousendit.com/07764205529B7067)

It's not very good at the moment, the overlay can't fade, so if you make multiple borders with different names it will just cut between each border, and not have a nice fade. You could just use the border overlay, and then add names with subtitles, but all the subtitles I have now are too high to fit on my border, and I don't really know how to alter the code to make them low enough to fit on the border right now. I might try to make it better but for now, that's all I have.

Copy the above code and paste it into notepad, save it as "Simple Nametags.XML" or similar. Be sure to add - .XML - to the name or else it might not work. After you have saved it, go to C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared. Make a new folder within the "shared" folder and name it "AddOnTFX" Put the file in the new folder.

Restart WMM, and go to Tools > Titles and Credits > title on the selected clip. Type your text in the box, then click on "Change the title animation" look for "Text...(fade in/out)"  and click "Done, add title to movie."

You can also change the font and color of the text by going to Tools > Title and Credits > title on the selected clip > Change the text and font color.

The above code allows text to be placed in any corner of the screen as well as top and bottom center.

hope it was helpful.

To Freeze Frame/Pause a clip, I use this, it seems to work nicely.

Code: [Select]
<TransitionsAndEffects Version="1.0">
<Effects>
<EffectDLL guid="{ADEADEB8-E54B-11d1-9A72-0000F875EADE}">
<Effect name="Freeze Frame" iconid="31" comment="Freeze Frame">
<Param name="FrameSkips" value="10000" />
</Effect>
</EffectDLL>
</Effects>
</TransitionsAndEffects>

Copy the above code and paste it into notepad, save it as "Freeze Frame.XML" or similar. Be sure to add - .XML - to the name or else it might not work. After you have saved it, go to Program Files > Movie Maker > shared. Make a new folder within the shared folder and name it "AddOnTFX" Put the file in the new folder.

Restart WMM, and go to Tools > Video Effects, and search for "Freeze Frame" Click on the thumbnail and drag it onto the clip you want to freeze. It will freeze on the very first frame of the clip, and stay frozen for the duration of the clip.

hope it was helpful.

You can get custom render settings in wmm. Your format options are very limited, but you can still try to get decent quality with a reasonable file size.

To easily edit wmm2's render settings you should download Windows Media Encoder (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx) Once it's installed, go to Start > All programs > Windows Media > Utilities > Windows Media Profile Editor. A program will pop up, allowing you to configure audio and video formats and bit rates. This program is somewhat similar to the custom render settings option in Sony Vegas. Just fiddle about with the program, if you mess up badly the program will tell you. To save your render settings profile, simply click Save and close. Be sure your profile is saved in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared\profiles, otherwise it won't work. If you want to go back and edit your render settings, double click on your already made profile, and it will open with windows media encoder.

I've tried to duplicate Daffy's .wmv render settings (http://www.gtastunting.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=17941&st=0&start=0) to work with wmm, and here is the result.

(http://www.isarapix.com/pix15/sm/1201569144.png) (http://www.isarapix.com/my.php?isara=pix15/pre/1201569144.png)

You may notice that the video size is set to 640x480 instead of just "save as video input." This is because whenever I have tried to "save as video input," wmm2 doesn't show the render settings. I don't know why, but it's ok, cause it works fine as is. You can change the video size by just putting in your own in place of mine.

I don't know. WMM2 is freezing anytime I do anything!   I haven't used it much in awhile so I have no idea how to fix it nor do I really want to. This has happened before  Try using virtual dub to compress your clips, it will probably do a better job.

You don't need Photoshop, but you can use it. Any program that supports transparency. If you don't already own Photoshop and don't want to pay for it, I suggest you use GIMP (http://www.GIMP.org) or GIMPshop (http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294)

The easiest way to reverse .avi clips for use in WMM is to use the application below.

http://www.xander.free.fr/info/Time_Reversal/ (http://www.xander.free.fr/info/Time_Reversal/)

Click the above link and download the application by clicking Téléchanger !
Extract the program onto your computer and double click it.
Click the Parcourir... button and search for the clip you would like to reverse, once the clip is found click Open.
Click the Reverse Avi ! button and wait for the clip to reverse.
Once the clip is done reversing a box will pop up confirming that the clip is done reversing. Click OK.
When you are done with reversing, click Quitter
The reversed clip will be in the same location as the clip you picked to reverse.

It will not overwrite the original clip.
It will not reduce the quality of the reversed clip.

The new and hopefully better Border + text (nametag) tutorial.

First you will need to make a border. To do this you will need an image editing program that supports transparency such as Photoshop, GIMP or Paint.net (Links to these programs are in the first post of this topic)

Open your image editing program and make a new document at whatever resolution you recorded your footage in, such as 640x480, 800x600, 1280x720, etc. There are quite a few ways to make a border. For a simple border you could take a large square brush and run it across the top and bottom, or you could color the entire document and erase the mid section so bars are left at the top and bottom. If you'd like further help regarding the making of border images please ask in the Expression Section (http://www.gtastunting.net/forums/index.php?showforum=58)

After you have made a border image save it as border.png and place it in C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\shared

Code: [Select]

Copy the above code and paste it into notepad, save it as "Border Plus Text.XML" or similar.

Type your text in the box, then click on "Change the title animation" look for "Border Text..." and choose which one you want. click "Done, add title to movie."

You can also change the font and color of the text by going to Tools > Title and Credits > title on the selected clip > Change the text and font color.

The above code places your border image over your video and allows you to place text on the top right, top center, top left, or the bottom right, bottom center, and bottom left of the border. If you just want to use a border without any text on it, just leave the text field blank when applying the title overlay.

Thanks for the Border Code, it helps alot. I prefer to use WMM2 over Vegas, because Vegas makes my CPU usage go up to 100%
