This is a pretty obvious thing when you think about it
Why would I want to do this?
Here are the reasons:
- Renders a perfect 30FPS stunt video
- Allows you to use Anti Aliasing - as long as you can get more than 15fps doing that (if you where recording @ 30fps it would drop a lot)
- Allows you to record at an even high resolution (a lot better quality)
I can't get 30FPS recording Vice City @ 1024x768, but now I can record 1280x720 @ 15FPS and end up with the same result as if I renederd @ 30FPS.
Does your computer lag when recording with FRAPS? drops down to around 25 or even lower making the clips slower? well...
This tutorial will help you make a smooth 30fps recording with FRAPS... sort of, here is how:
1) Set FRAPS to record at 15fps.
Be sure to split and delete the first few seconds of the clip, if you don't do this the first couple of seconds of the clip will be faster than the rest, this is because when you start recording with FRAPS it drops from 30fps to 15fps, so it's recording at higher than 15fps untill it reaches constant 15fps
This is a very helpful tutorial, hope you guys thinks so aswell
NOTE: This can be done in WMM, Video effects > Speed up double.
The only problem is the first few seconds will be faster than normal unless you can split clips in WMM, I don't even know if you can
Summary
You can't record in high res (1024x768 or maybe 800x600) because you get less than 30FPS recording making the clip laggy, using this method you will be able to record in 1024x768 or maybe even higher, this will make you record at half the speed Vice City runs at, changing the playback rate from 1.000 to 2.000 is increasing the speed by half, meaning it is the exact same speed as if you were recording at normal speed. Making your videos perfect speed and higher quality
Happy smooth, high quality video making

cool tut,
I will still working at the old method though
-
Ive used these settings for a while. They work well
-
Thats a sweet tutorial man
-
Nice tutor mate, but at me, fraps recording with 30 fps with the default settings... (But i dont have anti alising on )
-
Is this method also with San Andreas working? Anyways, great tutorial!
SA's default fps is 25, so if you wanna try this method then put fraps to 12.5 fps.
Great tutorial BK.
-
Nice! And yes WMM can split
-
nice tutorial, ive been wondering how to make my vids better
-
Thanks a lot simon because of this i was able to throw together my first "video"
-
I LOVE YOU! Now i shouldnt have any more laggy videos!
-
I do almost the same for a bit of time. I use my special "Hook" (No more information here ) to set the gamespeed to 0.25 in reps - while framelimiter is at 10fps
this will make rep anims etc much smoother and you can record at 60 FPS which even allows you smooth videos at 25% speed
-
Anyway, glad you like it guys
-
Thank you very much brainkiller now i can record in SA yeah
-
I guess it's OK, but I cant see why, probably because I dont know what the playback rate is.
-
Nice idea, but I'll stick to my 25fps, AA off.
-
Hiei... this helps if your clips are laggy, and even if you can record @ 1024x768 at 30FPS (25 SA) (but can't recod higher because you get less than 30FPS) (25 SA), why not record in an even higher res and use my method
15FPS VC or 12.5FS SA is half the speed of 30 or 25... playback rate is 1.000 so if you change it to 2.000 then it will be twice as fast... making it 30FPS or 25FPS.
-
I'm quite getting it now, not a dumb method indeed.. thanks.
-
You see that little grey arrow, click it and then press "S" and then delete the clip on the right
-
awesome thnks man
-
I've been using a similar technique i started trying out before this was posted.
Expect a tut soon.
-
Nooooo don't post the DFM.
-
I've recorded clips at 30FPS, with anti aliasing and 1280 x 720 res... my PC must be super cool, I thought you had no frapsing problems BK. Great tut dude.
-
I just have to say this: This method is awesome!
People have been asking me how I'm able to make so smooth and good-looking recordings, this method is the answer. I would recommend every editor to use this, it makes it much easier to move the camera and especially the zoom function in replays.
It requires some practice and I would recommend you to use it together with the replay fix of NWP.live. When you've learned to move the camera smooth this way, you will be able to record much better than before.
Thought this needed some advertising.
-
What about mine?

It sounded like an advertisement.
I'll test this out though since I get crappy FPS in LC while using Daffy's 25fps one.
-
Nice but i can record at 30fps with everything maxed out and get no slowdown.
-
I noticed that in Cubed... damn that video looked nice...
-
WAW!! why didnt you post this long time ago.. LOL
thanks yous verys muchs.... !!
-

I can too, but I still use this method. It's much easier to zoom in and out and move the camera exactly how I want, when the speed only is 50%.
@Daffy:
I've tried yours too, but I think this method is better.
-
this method is nice I use it all the time.
-
Glad you guys find it useful
Whereas some people couldn't be arsed reading it so they don't understand the purpose of it
-

I actually didnt have my current setup for cubed.
-
i used this recording method whilst editing Dreamstate, but if i wanted to slow a clip down so i could sync it properly it lagged =\

What did you expect, it's like that with all methods.
Though you should be possible to slow the clip down a little without any big problems, maybe you did something wrong. If you've seen my latest vid, "Outro", you could see 2.23 that slowing down clips (which are recorded with this method) doesn't look very bad. Actually the outcome is better than it would be with clips recorded with and at 30fps.

Oh , and another tipp: Record with 15FPS in SA and set the playbackrate to 1,600 . I know thats only 24FPS then , but it looks much smoother than 25FPS... =)
-
mm i don't like 25 fps gimme 30 fps in SA hahah thnks BK but i can record with everything maxed out without a problem on 30 fps so i stick with 30 fps still nice !!!
-
Oh I just noticed that this also is very easy to do with Windows Movie maker, just go to effects, scroll down, and you'll see something like, speed up, double. Just use that and you'll be allright!
-

Makrame told you that didn't he?
-
^
haha im prode to be in ur hate list ;:D
-
I was trying this but i noticed that im my beeba FRAPS have only fps choices from 20fps to 60fps. There no bix where i could write 15fps. Help!
-

No he didn't.
And gt7, you have to put it in yourself. You see a lits from 25 to 60 FPS, and underneath that a blank field, there you put in 15 fps, and check the box in front of it.
-
The version he is using is 1.9d I presume which doesn't have the option to put whatever fps you want.
You can't do anything then you need to hook up with someone on msn who can give you a better version of FRAPS.

Ok, thanks
-
quality though good never truly insued to me is it not the stunts that matter most
-
OMG
I would like to thank you Brainkiller for this fucking tutorial now i can fraps on 1280/1024
But my monitor can support 1440/900 can i fraps with this resolution ?
Thanks thanks love u
-
Fraps has a max resolution that you can record in (1280x800 i think) and anything over that eg. 1440x900 it will just record at half size...you do the maths O_O

780x450?

Yes :/
-
Fraps can capture audio and video up to 2560x1600 on dual-core CPUs (1152x864 single-core) at up to 100 frames per second!
-
Yeah, I was just about to say what Link said
-
Woohooo i can record at 2560x1600 with my e6600 , and brandon can just record at 1152x864 with his crappay P4
-
Nice KillaMarci
Funny smiley
-
Id like to see a video at 2560x1600
-
Imagine the lag on a video that size. It'd be fuckin' crazy.
-
Since we can record with some huge resolutions with Fraps, why is not somebody with the right computer components making a 1080p video ? That'd look so great...
-
i tried this method
but when i adjust the playrate to "2", the vid is very fast
i know using 15 fps, but yeah, its still fast... i did exactly what this tut says...
-
I have no idea.

Makrame told you that didn't he?
No, SlayerUK came up with it and told me, I told KM .

Well i tried recording at 1920x1080 in VC with aa and the shit it worked out great just 30FPS i will come up with some stunts in that resolution but beware that it needs some anti-dust hardware
-
Brainkiller is the king of fps kings.
-
That's cause SA runs @ 25fps... I said 30fps cause that's Vice City's
-
FL off -.-

That's because your brain gets used to 15 and then when you change it to 30 it looks a lot faster than normal cause you've been watching stuff in slow motion for a while, it's normal so keep editing and it'll feel normal after a while you little school-girl
-
daff ftw!
-
School-girls ftl unless they're undressed.
-
Thats a girl from russian pop band called TATU, so russian girls ftw

720 pleb .
Thanks for the tutorial BK, I will definitely use this to record in future, just surprised I'd never seen it here before .
-
How can you stunt WITH the FL
This my friends, is someone we call, FAILURE.
-
the irony
-
He is talking about SA which most people stunt FL off in, I don't and it's rather easy actually .
-
Storm. You fail at life. Dont take it out on me.
It was a joke, dumbass.. That's why I put the " ".
-
Sorry for the bump, but I think this should be pinned (because of being the best record method and I think we would see lots of better vids if more people used it).
-
Good point Tac, I'll pin this. Although there are quite alot of pinned topics in this section.
-
With San Andreas after this method, should I render the video @ 25fps?
Until this time, my setting was this: Fraps: sync, rec @ 30fps SA: FL:on, Vegas: render @ 30fps. It looks to me that i slowed down my videos by ~17%. Is that true?
-
don't record 30 fps in SA, SA runs in 25
record at 25, or half that which is 12.5
-

Yes i understand that, but after editing and stuff should i render my SA stuntvid @ 25fps?
-
Yes.
-
nice
-
my records at 5fps :s
-
Do i need to do this in SA?
-
Do i need to do this in SA?
Fraps in 12.5fps and ajudt the play to 2.0
-
Do i need to do this in SA?
u can do it * try it out !*
My 1600 POST
-
Omg very good post bk, always when i record with fraps, become a little bit laggy :P
-
I have to do this when I run sa with skins, set the resolution to 1600x1200,set anti aliasing to 3,effects to high and enb series on...when I set fraps to 25 it just records with 17-25 and is full of laggs...this is the best method to edit sa videos imo..
With 15 fps,10 fps or 5 fps...just brilliant trick and smooth vids
-
I record at 30fps and in the vegas I change the velocity in 95% for make a smooth video
