I think I overheated my video card (GeForce 7300 LE) by trying to make a SA 100x drawdistance mod.
Before I tested the mod my SA constantly ran at 30fps at 1024x768, even when frapsing.
Now SA runs at a laggy 20fps. It even drops to 15fps when going fast, which makes the game unstuntable.
VC still runs at 30fps, but when frapsing it now drops to 20fps.
Any ideas what happened and how to fix it? I didn't mess with the drivers or installed new crap btw.

LMFAO YES!!!! YES!!!!
(inside joke)

You think thats bad? When doing Radiance 2 I had to record every stunt with 5 FPS or lower in VC. I made a 15 FPS stunt too, in LC

lol, im down to like 15fps to record.
-
same when im recording at 800*600 in VC. I haven't even tried the bigger one
-
lol that is like-my constant speed even when stunting
I had a problem with 1fps recording in VC a while back.
-
I record with 1024x768x32 at 30fps. I can also put the Nvidia anti-aliasing settings to 16x and antisophoric settings to 8x and record at 30fps
-
omg you guys got some bad speeds if i frap in vc on 1600x1200 i still get 30 fps
but i dunno did you clock your card or something ??
run everest and let us know what the temps are ?
-
I'm glad yous got amazing fraps speeds but that doesn't help me does it?
@boxXx:
- No I didn't.
- What the hell is everest?
- Temperature is 51° atm.
-
i dono about overheating, the 7300 is a somewhat "weak" card that shouldnt produce all too much heat
it may be because with that extreem draw distance it is overloading the card and it simply can not handel the stress, but if you realy do think it is overheating check the temps on it, if it is above 86Celcius it is getting too hot for that card and i would reccomend the Zalman vf900 cooler, it works wonders and is one of the best coolers out
to check out the temp
http://3dgpu.com/files/coolbits2.reg (http://3dgpu.com/files/coolbits2.reg)
coppy all that and paste it into nptepad and save to desktop, rename it from ".txt" to ".reg" doubble click on it and press yes and now right click on desktop goto nvidia display and you will see ways to overclock your card and a temperature display
FIND OUT WHAT THE TEMP IS UNDER LOAD
basicly find out what it is when your playing SA realy laggly like
-
I record in 1152x864 (have FRAPS to record @ 15fps - If I didn't I'd record at a laggy 23fps) and then in Vegas I simply increase the speed from 1.000 to 2.000, incase you're bad at maths That means the end result is a smooth 30fps, sexy looking video.
( I got a new monitor so I can record in fat resolutions now )
As for you busting your comp: Sad man... what where you thinking 100x would be ridiculous... you'd be able to see lamposts from another island

The maximum resolution for Half-size capture is 2560x1600. Full-size video capture is limited to a maximum of 1152x864 (4:3) or 1280x800 (widescreen).
You didn't realise that recording in full size at a res higher than the full size limit automatically records it half size
So basically recording in 1600x1200 in half size and getting 30fps isn't exactly 'holy crap awesome' But still I bet it takes a decent coputer to still get 30fps.

Yesterday it was 70° when it lagged at 1024*768.
Today I removed the case (instead of buying a cooler ), played the game at 640*480 and got a constant 25fps, at 50°.
At 1024x768 it went to 60° and fps dropped to 15.
I dont think the heat matters now. I think if it overheated it somehow damaged the performance of the card, which makes it crap now.
-
My computer was overheating to REALLY bad temps, I can't remember what they where reaching but it got so serious when I put my hand on the comp it literally burned me sort of and when I would play a game I'd be playing and then suddenly my computer would restart, even when it wasn't roasting hot it would overheat and just shutdown... I cleaned my comp, it was dusty as hell
Hmm... have you reinstalled SA? that's all I can think of make sure you don't have some dumb anti virus running like Norton Norton is dumb it uses more process than games... almost
-
i dont think that thing ever overheated dude
my 7800 did
it hit 120 celcius 4 times one day, but its fine realy, heat is not a problem. its just a low end card
-
i dont think that thing ever overheated dude
Yea maybe it didn't. But I'd like to know why it suddenly decided to start becoming crap.
-
take off SA 100x drawdistance mod and put visual effects to low and anti alising to none
-
That's the first thing I did.
Before that I had no problems running the 10x draw distance with visual fx at Very High. Now it's lagging without the 10x and with every setting at its lowest (in 1024*768).
-
Hmm =\, try reinstalling SA. i cant think of much else right now
-
I'm glad yous got amazing fraps speeds but that doesn't help me does it?

51 ° mmm dunno if that is high cause i got a ati so... what is your temp stressed ? (btw here (http://www.simtel.net/product.php?id=95756) is a link to everest make a screenshot of all your temps )
have fun with your temps
EDIT:
DUDE !!!! maybe you should update your drivers ??
-
o.O i always stunt with 25fps and when i record with 10 fps <.<
i have a Geforce 5950 Fx Ultra , is that normal ?
-
what resolution do you play on ?? cause 25 is a bit laggy ....
-
i play on 1024x768
-
DUDE !!!! maybe you should update your drivers ??
How is that gonna solve anything? Like I mentioned, I didn't install any new crap. I also think re-installing SA won't help at all since the fps also dropped in VC, so i THINK its my video card fucking up, and not my games.
-
Have any money to spare? We could help you pick out a new one
-
Thanks for the help, but I aint buying a new one.
-
turtle, your card is realy realy weak, i would buy a new one for about 150 for a midranged card in 1 month (when the new 8800's are commin)
the 7300 is like the 5950, realy poor in performance, its just new so it supports more
ya know 1 7600 will SMOKE 2 7300's and 7600 is the midrange card
-
Im thinking of getting a Geforce 7800 GS AGP8x in a few months, good choice? will it burnout like TD's
-
dude talk to me on msn i got a card for you a ati radeon 1800 if you want ...
-
I play with frame limiter on with 25.... so ?
I capture with fraps with 17 fps : /// but its ok
-
Try making XSA vids at 11fps...then youll see how hard it really is
-
If you have bad lag when recording with San Andreas, (like one second it's 15fps the next it's 20 then it drops to 14) then set fraps to record @ 12.5 FPS then when you are editing the video with vegas right click and then changed the speed from 1.000 to 2.000 which will make the clips a smooth 25fps (San Andreas' set frame limit)
-
ooh, I'll try that (cause that sounds like me alot )
-
delete your gta_sa.set that helped me out when my SA was acting weird.
