Title: Regarding Downtime
Post by: AJ Collins on May 25, 2016, 08:48:49 PM
A few days ago our provider noticed some strange outbound traffic coming from our box and shut it down so that I can review. They believe the traffic was part of a outbound denial of service attack.

I'm still analyzing, but at first glance I do not see anything that would indicate a compromise. Regardless, I still recommend that you change your password if you used it anywhere else - just to error on the side of caution. I will be forcing a password reset for everyone soon.

You may notice some stuff missing and the site might seem a little slow. In light of a potential compromise, I've decided to wipe the VPS we were running on and start from scratch with updated versions. It will take a few days for me to properly configure everything -- so in the mean time I've set us up on a temporary host. I've also gone back to a clean install of the SMF forum software and applied only a handful of forum mods. Let me know if you run into any issues.

I apologize for the delay in getting things back up. It's hard to juggle getting the site back up and taking care of a 4 month old.  :P

When the server went off I was just thinking of you and how good it'd be if you stepped up and helped us as you've always done. And you did. Seems like you are still here when it's really needed. Thanks dude, we are really grateful for your endeavour regarding this site!

A few of the mods were out of date, but SMF was up to date.

Thanks a lot man! Don't worry about the delay, taking care of a child is more important than a bunch of old kids having the forum back a day sooner  :cc_detective:

Cheers man! Some functions have been down due to outdated thingies, haven't been able to ban/unban/ip-check people due to errors. Hopefully this update will fix that

Is there any chance we could get some of the old forum functionalities back? Video embedding would be a good one to have back and I think having animated .GIF's as avatars was broken before SMF got reset. Also, maybe disable the forum image resizing on the video release sections? People can manage to have page stretching sigs no problemo but I've noticed a few times when releasing stuff I've had to go back and resize the banner for it down multiple times in Photoshop before it fits. It's not really necessary but it'd be nice to have :)

There's also a fair few errors especially when updating user profiles or using the search functions.
