Tried this game yesterday. The gameplay is fun though the controls are a tad hard to get used to and the graphics are pretty fucking amazing. I'd say even better than BF3.

What I love most so far is Muse's song(s) playing in the radio and imagining you're driving in a really dramatic way. :P And I love it when you're racing against someone and the screen movements are so.. lively. It's hard to express it in words but it's still a very fun game. Just too bad they cut out every bit of progress that was in the original game and just gave you a smaller blacklist, but goddamn those blacklist races are difficult. I still need to get past #10 and I keep getting popped tires sooner or later.

Tried it once, what should I say.. just amazing only in discovering cars and doing jumps that make me gain points to unlock blacklist cars other than that races didn't look to be appealing to me, they were really difficult and with laggs furthermore I couldn't win any normal race, I won only the easy ones lol. Overall, the game was appealing to me when I found that idea of disovering cars is brilliant and enjoyable that pushs me to do only freeroam and quit racing with other opponents but I stopped playing it after unlocking Shelby Cobra. I really got bored too fast but I wish if they did a remake of Need For Speed High Stakes.

I really don't know what to think of this game...
The graphics looks amazing for a NFS game, but it looks like too much of an arcade game. I have just got Forza Horizon and for the first time Forza has won me over + you can actually customise your cars more than this game (what has the world come to!). Also what is with the ground looking constantly wet? I don't understand it.
I've been stuck deciding whether to get this for Christmas or not for a long time now but I think I might actually pass.

The constantly wet ground is probably because it keeps invisibly raining.

Gonna post what I said to Mikey when he asked whether or not he should buy it:

Well, the thing about MW is that, for one, it's a really pretty game, it has nice lighting, realtime shadows, sweet speed effects, an incredibly well designed & huge map with nice city, hillside & country scenes & all that good stuff. But I'm not so sure if it's worth the money, especially if we look at single player alone. The game gets very repetitive very soon, the main gimmick is that you can unlock all these cars by finding them at random spots & for each vehicle you unlock upgrades by beating races. The problem here is that the races are the same for a lot of vehicles, so you'll be doing the same race with 10 different cars just to unlock nitrous. There are only 4 race modes afaik (I've beaten 40%, so maybe there's more, but I really doubt it), you have your sprint, your circuit, your ambush, where you try to evade the cops under a certain timelimit & then you have a new thing called a speed race (I think), where you have to maintain a certain average speed throughout the race to win. So there's really not a lot of different stuff you can do. Another let down is that the freeroam doesn't have any interactive constructions (other than gas tanks, but you only use them to repair & respray your car), none of the good ol' techniques to evade the cops by blowing up gas tanks or ramming a truck full of logs. That takes me to my next point, the cops. Cop chases can be entertaining for a while, but if you decide you've had enough, you better have at least another hour to spare just evading them, it is damn near impossible to escape them, there are no cooldown areas or interactive constructions, the cops are always twice as fast as you are &, not to mention, at least 10 times as many. Even if by luck you do magically escape them, it takes at least 5 minutes for the meter to go all the way down & these cops lurk everywhere to find you, so you have to be really sneaky & really lucky. So now you're thinking "Oh, so I just go through a gas tank & respray my vehicle, right?" Well, in a way yes, but bear in mind that the gas tanks are in very open & vulnerable areas, so it's very unlikely to get there without being spotted. And even if you do manage, it only takes away 1 level of your heat, so if you're at max heat level 6, it means you have to drive through a gas tank 6 times without getting spotted by the cops, tedious as hell. Not to mention, the roadblocks are a pain in the ass, if you go full speed into a road block, you are almost guaranteed to crash into it, no no, not through it, like the old MW (which was by far the most satisfying thing, when you go into that sweet little animation of you destroying a roadblack), instead it puts you in an animation where you crash in the roadblock & it says "taken down", so you have a couple seconds afterwards to escape. Which brings me to the animations... WHY? Who the fuck asked for a fucking interruption everytime you hit a solid object or a vehicle, or even a cop, it is annoying as hell. I swear to god, I've had those animations pop up when I hit a stopped car going 50 mph, it's pretty much the most asshole way of saying "hey, you fucked up!" They really need to stop with that nonsense, it feels like the fucking day & night shift from Castlevania 2, purely unneeded & obnoxious.
The one good thing apart from it's looks that I can think of is the handling, it's a nice mix of Hot Pursuit's arcade-y controls & The Run's realistic handling, it is very smooth, gives you a nice sense of control, at the same time, it does involve some degree of skill, so it actually feels rewarding when you pull off some sweet turns & dodges.
I'd say pass, it is still an entertaining game, but nothing I'd play consistently, get it if you want something that you can sit down & play for like an hour a week or so, it gets old really quickly.

And ofc the most disappointing thing: no vehicle customization, huge let down.

uninstalled it after 10 minutes, I didn't want a Burnout, I wanted a playable NFS after 6 years (yes, the last good NFS was Carbon, that's right)
great graphics, great soundtrack, sucky game. thanks for ruining the MW series, Criterion.

Looks like a good game and I might get it when it's cheaper (fucking money issues these days with all them epic games). Have to say it looks more like Burnout then it does as a NFS, which isn't a bad thing for me because I love Burnout.

I agree with that. Hot Pursuit was fun though, especially the cop missions, really liked all the tools you could use & the game was very arcade-y in general.

I second that. I almost finished horizon, not gonna get NFS legit I guess. it doesn't deserve it.

@Dom, the best NFS were the ones where the customisations were teh kings. U2, MW (2005) and Carbon. They will never listen to their fanboy and do an U3. They sucks. I stopped loving them after carbon. r.i.p nfs

You guys do realize that customization is not part of the original NFS. It was only a gimmick started in UG.

^kinda ok, but you know that all the series with customisations right after the ug were the best. At that time, they were my fav until Carbon of course. They bring it back, or they die.

This gameplay of this game will probably make me play it for at least 3 more months, it's so much fun. Though if the game had a reason for racing and going into extreme chases, something like a story I'd probably play this game for years but I don't know why they decided not to spend the effort on such a thing... I mean the overall effort that is spent on this game is fucking incredible, it's so well done.

Overall the gameplay is endless fun, the visuals are mindblowing and so is the city design and the soundtrack is awesome too. It's an awesome racing game but it's not "Most Wanted".

This is the best NFS ever made because it absolutely included a lot of brilliant ideas that made the game close to be realistic despite the graphics. Well after High Stakes and after Criterion being an intruder and making NFS series the game became a silly doll well hanged by kids. The game has the most amazing soundtracks that EA has ever chosen or composed. How can you buy a NFS with silly soundtracks like Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj...  :euro:
I highly claim the remake of this game, and the choice of soundtracks.

Need For Speed High Stakes - Intro - PS1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDcJR6PaTl4#ws)

Fuck yes, I played the shit out of it on my ps1 when I was like 7-10  ;D

that was maybe a bit harsh I admit, but your comment is just even more stupid. getting ban for being stupid. whatever. still, this is almost the WORST NFS made. it's not NFS for fcks sake.

Although I disagree about it being the best (the old Hot Pursuit is my favorite, personally), it is a great fucking game.

Yeah, the fact that they didn't decide to put even a little bit of a story in it or cutscenes or anything is pretty shit. But the visuals and gameplay make up for it a bit, but I'd rather have a game with a good story and shitty graphics/gameplay.

when you said gtfo it was just stupid, you didn't express your opinions by giving me some arguments that will convince me  therefore I'll agree with you. You just immediately shout at me to gtfo lol. But nevermind, I played High Stakes once i was a child because it was entertaining in that era and once when I grew up a bit then stopped playing it to test other NFS. NFS is massively a fabulous game, I liked all the Underground, Hot Pursuit Series but I just disliked the newest Most Wanted, it's just dumb to make something more different than the old one and steal ideas from Burnout. Either I play Burnout or Most Wanted, because both of them are different you can't get them merged. Need For Speed is known for its known cars and Burnout for unknown cars just made to be crashed and like trial cars for example you can't use porsche or ferrari for michigan races lol... Anyways, All the NFS series before The Run are my favorite ones except ProStreet and Undercover for bugs and those choppy tracks while racing your opponents or while a cutscene.  :D

^Ow, I finished underground twice and u2 around 3 times  1 time xbox, 1 time ps2, 1 time pc. U2 was definitely the best, nothing could be better than this one. most wanted was good too. Can't wait for the next NFS release. That one was shitty (solowise) I might try the multiplayer one day. Looks funny. :3

It's a nice mix between The Run's realistic handling & arcade style steering of the older games, it's actually quite fun & doesn't take that much of you, you can drift & sharp turn easily even at 220 mph.

i played forza 4 too: i drove with a fully modded R33 GTR which was abled to race almost the best cars and the top speed was about 230mp/h. Forza is realistic as fuck. even the tuning possibilities are awesome. it's not like in the unprofessionell NFS (engine, brakes, turbo, shit like this). you can choose between Camshafts, stroker kits, engine-swap and lots of things more. every idiot can play NFS, but in Forza it takes a little bit more knowledge of cars, if you really want to understand what you are doing with the car

this NFS isn't realistic. i don't played it, but i saw some videos on youtube: lots of cars are abled to shoot flames throught the exhaust even if you leave them in stock? I've seen lots of powerful and tuned cars, and i know that you need at least an exhaust which is completly empty, no sound-dampers, no catalytic, nothing, and which original car has this? RIGHT: there is no car

You remind me of my audiovisual teacher who just can't help but try and pay attention to possible mistakes made in movies, and focuses more on that than just sit back and enjoy it.

Ignorance is bliss. Lovely saying.

For each their own, some may prefer realism, others just like the thrill of the race & prefer mindless fun over skilled racing, you can't really judge the game based on your own preference. You like realistic driving & that's fine, some of us don't look for that in video games & that is no reason to put anyone down or to say that the game sucks because of that.
