VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: ♦ Skyward 4 ♦
« on: October 11, 2021, 05:53:46 PM »
Firstly just let me say sorry I never got anything submitted for this vid. Time restrictions and lack of any ideas in my brain for taxi stuff played a big part, although I'll admit that complacency also cost me the opportunity.

Having said that - this was some great stuff on display. Doing a taxi only vid is a daunting task nowadays, but this one still managed to find ways to impress and surprise. A tremendous amount of neat little precision landings coupled with the more awe-inspiring high flying stunts. Some of the multi-tier stuff was the most impressive for me - using this that and the other to get to where you want to go. And only Dannye could make a stunt out of a bunch o parked trailers - you madman.

Editing was certainly unique. It was kind of 50/50 for me. I'll always applaud someone trying something completely unique when it comes to editing, and the Doctor Strange-like distortions were great, but other choices were a tiny bit distracting. I think that's more of a personal thing though. I like the original look of the game - flawed as it may be. However, it did give the vid a hell of a lot of personality and that's better than no personality at all.

Overall it was a tremendously fun vid to watch with a hell of a lot of creativity - both stunt-wise and editing-wise. To pull off a taxi only vid is a tough enough job to garner all kinds of praise.

I'm a bit late on this, so sorry for that. Thoroughly enjoyable vid all around. I love the laid back editing and musical choices. There's nothing better than a stunt vid that just makes ya continuously say "...nice...oh, nice...sweet one...", and this vid was one of those - it's like the Big Lebowski of stunt vids.

I'll be up front and say my contributions were a matter of "Uh...what have I got...?". I would have loved to land some more "...nice...oh, nice...sweet one..." stunts, but time's not on my side of late. Regardless, I was happy to contribute something and be in such fine company.

Great work, to everyone involved.

(ZeroX, even? Geez...you really did get in everyone's ear)

Well...I had a couple of Rhino spots up my sleeve to take on, but now I just don't think I'll bother. It'd be like following up Citizen Kane with The Bratz Movie!

This is definitely one of those rare water-shed videos - the kind that makes everyone want to step up their game. Those are rare videos, man, and yours is using a Rhino. I now can't wait to see your take on the Boxville. Damn - what the hell can I say? The video really does speak for itself. "Wow!", "Oooo" and "Fuck yeah!" don't even begin to do it justice. It really does illustrate just how powerful the Rhino can be in the right circumstances. Conversely, the credits reel shows just how heart-breaking the bastard thing can be. This one smacks of pure dedication and/or sheer stubbornness. Every appropriate adjective having been used in this thread already, I'm gonna have to go ahead and make one up - the stunts in this vid were flupidious! (fuck off, red squiggly line - it's a word now, dammit!)

Editing was right on par with the stunts. I had a fear that the repeated long run-ups might stunt the flow of the vid, but the music choice just fit  that perfectly. Some lovely use of the camera also (I guess long run-ups give you some creative latitude). All around smooth and slick production, and those gut-wrenching near misses in the credits was both great, and horribly saddening...but then great again due to all the spots being cleanly landed in the final product - horribly emotional.

Great job, man. This vid stands right alongside some of the greats, and some of the classic inspirational vids. Expect to see Rhinos in every vid from now until St. Swithin's Day.

DSS Video Releases / Re: Impossible is nothing
« on: May 19, 2021, 02:44:03 AM »
At a point in time when doing a solo is becoming a more daunting task, this vid shows it's not impossible - that didn't start out as a pun on the title by the way, but it turns out it was.

Some really creative grinds were the standout for me. A little disappointing that some ended with a saving grab - these are probably intentional, but it detracts just a teeny bit. However, there are also a tonne that are slick and well-executed. Some schmick taxi stuff in there to give the vid a bit of variety, and one insane Rhino stunt that looks like a serendipitous chain of events but also looks like it was by design - whatever the case it looked cool as shit.

While edited nicely, the music just didn't do it for me. I know this is a personal thing, and others most likely thought the music was bitching (do kids still say 'bitching'?), but it felt...dare I say it - outdated. There was a time when just about every vid released had this style of music (hell, I was in several), so for me the screeching ear-rape has gotten a little...well...irritating. Again - personal preference. The editing itself, removed from the music was energetic and couple the energy of the stunts with the energy of the music nicely. I normally don't like the super long angles, but they were incorporated well here.

High energy, nice creativity...just a little loud.

P.S. While I'm not going to get too involved in the negative vitriol that's kinda crept into this thread, I have to say that it's a little disappointing. This is all meant to be fun...right? Remember that we're a community, and the world really doesn't need another toxic gaming community that people just get fed up with. Ya bunch of wankers!

Beautiful work to everyone involved. I love the retro vibe and the intro reminded me of the first time I played VC (long before stunting even entered the equation) and thinking "WOW...this is like the best thing ever!". It's always tricky talking about the stunts when watching a remake of an older vid, but a lot of these are still sweet to watch, even a second time - also, quite a number still would have been a pain to land.

Silw's editing job was smooth as silk. I've never dabbled in Final Cut, but this editing job makes me want to look into it (although I had enough editing nightmares with the remedial Vegas 7 recently). I'm positive it was intentional, or it could just be me but I noticed some very subtle images (or footage) just noticeable over the stunt footage...or am I wrong? This isn't a criticism, just my curiosity has gotten the better of me on this.

Lastly, the music flowed well with the stunts and just added to the laid back vibe. I'm noticing more and more that editors are using slower, more melodic tunes in their vids and I love it.

Great work by everyone involved. The remakes are supplementing my nostalgia kick along with the Database.

Okay, so I'm going to be a tad critical on this one, but I'll start by saying that I liked the vid overall. When I can picture the stunts outside of the video, there is some really innovative stuff here. I particularly liked the use of rarely seen vehicles (the RC Baron being a particular favourite - not enough people utilise that one), and there's also some clever use of old terrain for new results. In terms of stunts I was pretty happy.

Now onto the editing. It'll be a contentious issue that will follow this vid in the short-term, no doubt. I'm a huge proponent of editors doing what they want and editing to their own style, but my problem here is that numerous stunts were shot in a way that kind of robbed the stunt of any real impact. I understand that with car stunts that just kinda the way it is, car stunts never look as impressive as high speed bike ones, but it was more to do with clunky angles and edits more than anything. Having been spending a lot of time lately randomising vids on the database (which, by the way, where's that link?), I really got a nostalgia rush going back to that simplistic editing and rough around the edges vids, so I'm kinda torn on the editing.

Tied to the editing, of course, is the music choice - which I'll call bold. Music that's outside the norm is another thing I'm happy to see, but the choices here may be a little TOO outside the norm. Again, editor's choice is the way it should always be, but even though I hate to say it the music here hurts the vid to a certain extent.

Ultimately the vid is about the stunts - and that part was great. As mentioned, some great innovation and someone stunted in a Mule...a Mule! What more could you want?

:) :) :)

Please excuse me for being an idiot and missing the part where Kaneda outlines in the first post that he was the one who edited. Great work mate!

Thanks for that, man. Oooo...my first reaction video! You didn't fall asleep or gag uncontrollably, so that's a plus.

Thanks for the responses lads.

I guess it wasn't what everyone was expecting, but as I said I just wanted to have some fun with it and realise an idea I had a fair while back but didn't fully commit to.

As for the youtube link - I really don't wanna have to deal with youtube's bullshit. I'll see if I can't get it up on GTAStunting's channel, but I also want you guys to go to gtasdb.com. Watch this, and then start randomizing vids and enjoying everybody else's stuff - new or old. That's the whole point of the database.

DISCLAIMER: Manage your expectations!

This vid is more like a stunt/themed hybrid. It was an exercise to reacquaint myself with editing and image work. Also it gave me the opportunity to hang out with the rest of the guys and goof around a bit.

That said - The Fantabulous 4 links below:

Thanks to all the guys for their help on this one - it was invaluable. Also big thanks to KingJad for guesting.

DSS Video Releases / Re: DSS - Eradicate [2021]
« on: March 14, 2021, 12:23:44 AM »
I'm typically not into these long pre-made review templates, but I'll give it a lash for this one.

Intro: Is that a Stranger Things skin I see? Huh.

Nice and simple so it kinda speaks for itself really.

Main:
0:34-0:43 - Nice height off what I'm guessing is an awkward bump to make.
0:44-0:51 - Good lord - these CSMs are mighty powerful stuff! (gotta try one someday)
0:52-1:00 - Lovely new use of an old spot.
1:01-1:05 - Sweet stunt. Very old school.
1:06-1:12 - Well Aries is gonna be pissed. Great execution.
1:13-1:22 - Smooth stuff. Those tight taxi landings are the stuff of nightmares.
1:23-1:33 - Good to see even now that rails in VC can still be new. Great.
1:34-1:38 - Love a good Sanchez stunt.
1:39-1:47 - Yes! The power of the Rhino at high speed. Lovely tap off the other Rhino also.
1:48-1:54 - Nice. Reminds me of classic Brulla stunting.
1:55-2:01 - More dents in the side of that ship.
2:02-2:11 - Any stunt in that God foresaken Dodo is worth a round of applause.
2:12-2:22 - Fantastic combo stunt. I can only imagine the headaches.
2:23-2:31 - Again - tight taxi landings always impress.
2:32-2:40 - Gawd. Who'd have thought a Sanchez could get up there?
2:41-2:48 - Neat little ledge grind.
2:49-2:57 - Woah! The stunt that just kept on giving. Nicely done.
2:57-3:02 - Ha! Love those circular ledge grinds.
3:03-3:14 - Do you guys land on anything bigger than the taxi itself?
3:14-3:22 - High energy. If you're gonna bump off a cop car, do it like that.
3:23-3:29 - Nice length. Don't know why you'd try anything with popped tires though
3:30-3:36 - Again, very old school vibe on this one. Everyone loves a good billboard landing.
3:37-3:44 - Go in through the gate, or... - nice one.
3:45-3:58 - Not much else you can do to get that one. Props on the improv.
3:58-4:08 - Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong bump! Groovy.
4:09-4:15 - Don't confuse an old man...please. Sweet!
4:16-4:29 - Don't confuse an old man...please. Sweet! (see, how do you like it?)
4:30-4:39 - What the fuck just happened? Seriously!
4:40-4:51 - You know there are nice, big roofs, right? Lovely nudge off the ledge to start the climb.
4:52-5:00 - Holy crappers! I guess this is why you're known as the The Big V!
5:01-5:09 - Tight P2B right there. One of those 'meant to be' stunts.
5:10-5:16 - That's a little big of a target to land on, isn't it?  :P
5:17-5:23 - Tight gap to get into. A little clunky, but the end result was sublime.
5:24-5:33 - Great! Creative use of the environment for a fine finish. Gotta love it.
5:34-5:38 - Not the pipes!
5:39-5:45 - Also loving those '1 millimetre off and it's a fail' types of stunt. Nail-biting.
5:46-5:52 - Nicely executed double grind. Elegant!
5:53-6:00 - So many bikes stuck up in those girders now - pleasure to watch.
6:01-6:06 - Crazy shuffle off the roof. Must be an ugly second grind to make too.
6:07-6:13 - Tight! Landing on shit like that makes me feel all tingly in my lower parts!
6:14-6:21 - Oh the lovely rotation - LOVELY.
5:22-6:27 - Coming up empty on how you got that target. Nice.
6:27-6:32 - Too much tingling in my lower parts now - must have tissues on hand.
6:33-6:38 - Do a PSM, get the most out of it and wow the audience.
6:38-6:46 - That's one way to arrive at a party.
6:46-7:00 - Now that's a finisher. Lovely everything!

Outro: Ha! I love this kind of stuff. Having fun with the game and not taking all this silliness too seriously. Wonderful.

Stunts: Overall there were a tonne of really 'wow' type stunts in this vid - too many to count in fact. Everyone did a great job and showed their level of dedication to getting those tough-to-get spots. Lots of creativity, lots of variety and lots of love of stunting. Nothing more one could ask for, really.

Edit: Editing was smooth, without being overly flashy (a trend I'm noticing more and more - and liking it). A couple of stunts weren't necessarily shown in the best light (the last taxi boost across the water, for example), but for the most part everything flowed together extremely well.

Overall: A+. That should tell you everything.

Ha - funny that I ride around in SAiVC and not bat an eye, but when I see LC and VC in the SA engine it just strikes me as weird.

Lovely work, guys. The great thing about these map conversions is you can take the advantages of one game engine and apply them in another map, and this is on show here. Nobody playing in the VC engine is doing crazy vehicle bumps like those in this vid, that's for darn sure.

First off - love the music choice. It's not often music that's game-era-specific is used in a stunt vid. I loved the editing also. It reminded me of the classic days where you cut your stunts in and maybe doubled up a couple of nice landings and...that's it - letting the stunts be the flash, rather than the way they're recorded.

And these are stunts that don't really need any bolstering of any kind. Solid classic stuff sprinkled with some new level creativity and combos. The crazy spinning gutter clip to grind was the stand out for me. It's like watching someone trip over their own feet but then somehow turn that into a cartwheel followed by a backflip. Looks like a mess to begin with but winds up being all too stylish.

Great work, man. It gave me a warm, nostalgic feeling without being a 'best of' kinda thing.

Gotta agree with Aries - for 'left over' stunts they were pretty damn good. I suppose when you're overloaded with reps, you wanna put them somewhere. I wish I was in a position to even have left overs - my left overs have been promoted to main course.

Tight editing, nice quality and solid soundtrack. Nicely done all around.
