dab88 here, he can make new documentary about this

Why bother? It's already been made. If you truly think stunting is an art, let me give you a very strong analogy that parallels exactly what you've done.

"Tim's Vermeer" is a documentary following Tim Jenison's efforts to emulate the painting style and technique of Johannes Vermeer. Vermeer was a 17th century artist renowned for his realistic depictions of interior scenes with a mastery of capturing lighting effects that was completely unprecedented in that time.

Tim hypothesises that Vermeer painted with the help of optical devices. So, without any formal training or experience in painting with oils, he sets about recreating one of Vermeers most famous works: The Music Lesson.

After many months of effort Tim finishes the work. The end result is absolutely stunning and does indeed look just like a genuine Vermeer.

What does this mean? Tim still puts in months of effort to paint the piece. Even Vermeer required the ingenuinity to use the optical device method and had the ability to create the composition. But it also means anybody can do it.

I'd argue the impact of the piece comes in large part from the audience believing that somebody was capable of producing such works of art without aid, without "methods" that literally anyone could adopt. This is basically the same as what you have done.

Maybe I'm too much of an idealist but once the magic has gone, so does some of the joy.

This gives me an excrutiating level of second hand embarrassment remembering AllBeast replying to every comment congratulating him on the Limitless topic and making a 45min video attempting to legitimise it before revealing the true "method". How could somebody do that knowing they were essentially deceiving everyone? I guess it's good the charade wasn't kept up forever.

If you can't get attention doing something the right way, just do it the wrongest way possible.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. It's great to see media ABOUT stunting and the psychology behind it. I've always pondered (after the 27th backwards bailed landing) what the hell am I doing. Three major components invariably come into my brain though:

- community
- discovery
- expression

The community and the people I most often connect (the other crew members) pretty much became the primary driving force for me personally. I think if I went it alone and didn't really connect with anyone, I would have lost interest much sooner.

Discovery is also a big factor. Finding a way to utilize that speck of terrain to get to that target before anyone else has stimulates that brain gunk. Not only that but unearthing a new and effective technique that everyone else can apply - it's like you're contributing to the longevity of something you love.

Finally - expression. I could spend two months scaring birds in the park and then editing footage of that into an entertaining (and somewhat worrying) piece of media - but it doesn't really bring with it the previous two points, and doesn't sound wholly fun either. Stunting taught me a lot about editing and afforded me the opportunity to get my own sensibilities and styles out there into the world. It's not a large world, granted - but it was enough for me.

I really loved the video, man. Not only for it's deep dive approach, but also for that indulgence in your own sensibilities and style. The above is just my cliff notes version.

Oh, and spectacular JC4 stuff by the way.

Thanks for the feedback. It's cool to read about other peoples experience and couldn't agree more about the discovery/expression side of things!

In July 2018 I released Iteration: https://youtu.be/ErB9eTtr5ho - a montage of stunts using the Just Cause 3 grappling hook to swing a car through seemingly impossible gaps and land in outrageous places.

The is the sequel to that video. This time using Just Cause 4.

we could arguably create a comprehensive timeline of GTAStunting from inception to current day.

I guess it really depends what you mean by this? If you guys are thinking about making a video there's a chance the scope is too wide to complie every moment that mattered form teh last 20 years into an entertaining and informative video. By the time you finish writing another 5 years will have passed that need to be covered! You could always just make more focused videos so that you don't have to brush over certain topics and can cover everything adequately. For instance, you could do a video on every significant team covering the members, video releases, collaborations, controversy and impact on the scene. You could do the same for individual stunters. There's so much you could do that would both appeal as a story, get views on youtube and inform others over the history. "The Best Stunter You've Never Heard Of!" is one of my favourite ideas (Dannye?). Or "What the Heck is HEGC?" with a decade long forum thread. Somebody do it!

Even if it wasn't videos you wanted to make you could still make incremental moves toward something more comprehansive. Just start small. Use the stunting database with all the video data and create a visual timeline of every video released. From there you could add all sorts of entries (e.g. milestones such as new techniques or game releases). You could use it as a starting point to put together something more elaborate like a wiki or a longer video.

If anything, somebody needs to start something. The only reason I ended up making this video is because nobody else had.

this was awesome! The intro was a particular highlight - both for the cool looking visuals, the camera tracking and transistions. It was so dynamic! I had an idea for a video sometime last year and in my head it looked a lot like the intro - glad somebody was able to realise it since my editing knowledge/skill is not up to this standard. Good effort!

Just Cause 2 - Stunting is a Habit by Slayer UK.

His channel appears to have been deleted- must've happened within the last year. Does anyone know what happened?

He also appears to go along the route of memory-holing the older GTA games when a new one is out as if the older games are not touched again by stunters.

This is so legit it came to mind as I watched it back fresh this evening! I've been watching loads of VC/SA videos lately over the past month or two and they're all contemporary. Didn't really realise how much I separated things within the context of the video. Might have to add some clarifications to the description.

you mentioned it while talking about the greatest achievements

*stories

greatest stories. Pay attention lol

Also, I spoke with Marston for hours. He's the GTAV encyclopedia and look, you'll see his greatest GTAV moments listed in the video.

Anyways, I'm being too defensive. You have a point but I can only talk about what I know.

it's impossible to cover everything. There's 18 years worth of history! I focused on what I knew, what is publicly availabale knowledge along what I could derive from the people who engaged with me (not everybody did) and finally what fit with the story I was trying to tell. I'm more than aware that much detail was missing, both through lack of knowledge and because it wouldn't necessarily fit. The idea was an introduction to the wonder of stunting and think I achieved that goal. I appreciate your criticism though and would be keen to see other peoples interpretations of a "stunt history" or "documentary" because although I used those words, really I was focused on the idea of an entertaining story and very much edited things to facilitate that end. My bad ;) (Werner Herzog moment)
