Title: TurBo - Excelsus

Hey to everyone, it has been ages since I posted, much more so a thread and especially a video of my own.

I guess a bit of an introduction is in order: I started working on this solo in the Spring of 2016. Seems forever ago and it kind of has been a long, stop-start project without a set deadline and without an intention to churn out stunts.

In the past 4-5 years my interest in stunting has seen fluctuations, on good months I'd be on a roll of several stunts a week/month and then I could take long periods off stunting entirely. However inactive I became and however little time or interest I had for/in stunting along the way I'd still periodically check in on the forums even if I didn't comment.

This solo, a taxi-themed one, owes credit in large part to my close mates in the scene and some notable taxi inspirations of old, and new who have helped re-ignite the old flame each time. The goal was to create a solo as diverse and with spots as unique and fresh as I could. Being that I had way more spots than what has ended up in here and I still in fact hold a sizable mental repository of prospective spots I think it'd be safe to say this is a significant one for me, but definitely not a denouement.

During these very strange times, I have found more time for a lot of self-reflection and indeed set myself targets to be done with while I was not busy with remote-studying/working/living and I have managed many of these. Finishing up this long-awaited solo, primarily for myself, is one of the successful ones.

Finally, I'm really indebted to Max, who took on the project kindly and courteously kept me posted at any notable point of progress, deliberating on different aspects, from the most minute of details to the more holistic ones. I could not have asked for someone whom I would have liked more for the vision I have for my videos and stunting videos in general. A great synthesis between complementing a stunt and making content king while also crafting an experience that transcends a montage of cool tricks and is unique and memorable.

That will be it for my babble, I hope you'll enjoy the final product and thanks to everyone that helped me make this happen.

Christ... the stunting level is godlike, you managed to develop some serious skills not only in wall boosting but also every other taxi method there is.

The editing is amazing, everything was on point and a lot of great details in terms of editing and scripting.

Well done both of you!

This video is sick. Chock full of great ideas. Love the palm tree boost to roof in particular. 9 mins grind was great too.

Trust Max to do a falling stunt in a taxi rather than boosting.

All in all definitely the best taxi video this year, heck even the decade ;D

You don't see big taxiboost solos like this one everyday! Stadium pl combo was my favourite oh and I lost 7:53 and 8:51 as spots but that's no big deal, awesome job both of you!

Man oh man, I've been fucking waiting for this! Ever since I saw you roll over on that finisher.. fuckin 3 years ago? 4 years ago? However long ago, I knew you had something special in the works, and this was certainly worth the wait. I saw this pop into my sub box and jumped  Was really nice to see you finally land that finisher

Firstly, seeing TurBo still kicking it through all of these years is truly inspiring. Your style has always been captivating and leaves us waiting for the next crazy boost that you'll nail. Taxi-only vids as a concept can seem boring, but your creativity makes your solos the freshest shit that I may see all year.

Stunting wise, I never thought I'd see some of these precisions ever landed, and you just so happened to land them in the gnarliest ways via the insane combos, or just generally genius spots. I'd say the precisions were standouts, but the whole fucking video is a standout  The grind combos were so lovely, such as the staircase grind2prec, the two double grinds.. but the huge boosts were phenomenal too. That casino boost2prec was nuts.

I don't know how you come up with some of these spots.. From the satellite dish landing on the stadium in VC, to the double-taxi spot, and even landing the billboard by the construction site, are you fucking kidding me? Unreal. From the complex combos or clean precisions, I enjoyed every stunt.

Max, I've always really enjoyed your edits, and even look at them for inspiration of my own, however this surpassed my expectations by far. The camerawork was truly extraordinary, the colours & timecyc were ethereal. Each effect and transition to each new clip seemed to be perfectly calculated by math if "perfection" was able to be solved by an equation. Did that make sense? I don't know, I like to think it does, but either way I fucking loved it. You made a work of art, and I think that you were the best choice to edit this video. Fantastic work. I loved the intro & outro too, especially the rotating-still zebra clip after the intro.

Beautiful. Immaculate. Brilliant and inspiring. Y'all are prodigies at what you two do. Shit, I'm opening VC right now, but only after I download this and re-watch it a couple of more times. The artistic style of Max's and creative eye of TurBo's was certainly beautifully crafted to make this masterpiece. Fuck yes.

Thanks for the shout out in the outro. I can continue talking about how enjoyable this video is - put a character limit on this site before I blow it up over this video

Dayyyyyuuuum. This is sick. The Casino prec, Stadium satellite, VC Palm boost, and double grind were my favorites, but everything was impressive. There wasnt a stunt I wasn't happy to watch.

Part of that also goes to the always eye candy editing by Max. Love the angle work. Clean, colors were great, no complaints at all. Awesome video dudes, will definitely be coming back to watch this one!

Alright Rainbow, your turn :P

Here's my humble appreciation, I've been following your stunting trajectory thus far and I must say I definitely enjoy your taxi stuff, keep them up.

Thanks to everyone so far and needless to say, none of this would've been possible without Max's efforts here and I couldn't be more satisfied with the end product, on to new pastures then.

A little side note, I've added a link to a review template made by Max in the topic's original post, in one of the post-scriptum notes.

As someone who never do any taxistunt nor like them to do, all i can say GOOD FUCKING JOB!
I have no clue wether stunts are hard or easy, Rainbow proved me through the years some walls are ass and angles are hard as fuck.

I can only imagine that most of the things you boost are probably shit to do

Will make a full review this weekend.

I think my favorite stunts are the Phill's place grind, the precision to the orange rooftop and the Casino run up stunt to precision.

Again, Good job Turbo and gratz to sticking to your project through the years.

That was an outstanding video! The creativity on show throughout, right from the approach/setup to the stunts (with a couple of my favourites being the brilliant stadium one; also the preliminary boosts setting up that tree-to-hotel-roof one so nicely), through to their landings (the stadium one again; nailing those stairs in the middle of the park; and the Cherry Poppin' combo with the boost off the grind to keep it going longer, and continuing the roll from before it, so smooth), was amazing to watch - and as was the camera/editing work covering them (so many great angles; also loved the intro spinning camera with the transitions to the different spots; and the masking effects on the multi-vehicle/stunt parts were great). Great work work all round! I'll absolutely be downloading to watch again.

Amazing video Lior and not a single filler stunt in there. It was like watching finisher after finisher.
Splendid job on the editing Max you can't go wrong can you.

Easily one of the best taxi solos and up there in the greatest solo category ever.  :ajaja:

So many impressive and out of the box (in a good way) stunts it's hard to point out all the standouts, i think my favorites were the grind to the slanted roof landing in VC's downtown and the boost off of kenji's casino. Those were not only brilliant ideas but also executed flawlessly, but so were many of the other ones. You certainly have a unique approach to taxi stunting, it made for an engaging watch all along.

I enjoyed the song choices and the editing, my only complaint about it is that there was too much cutting/build-up going on at times which made the stunt less exciting to see because you could already see it coming, but aside from a couple instances of that i thought the pacing in general was great, and the camera work was excellent, well done Max

Congrats on sticking to the idea of making a solo through all these years and even making it a 2 part one in the end. good shit

Fantastic video man, the amount of time and effort you put into this solo definitely shows! As others have mentioned, it's certainly among the best taxi themed videos ever made. :ajaja: I really enjoyed pretty much every stunt in it since most of them were boosts off small walls/tricky objects and/or ended with a precision - these are more appealing to me than just climbing up huge walls, so yeah, great job! :P

Also kudos to Max for the clean editing, it's nice to see that you're experimenting with things, it was a really pleasant watch! Also loved the colors! :cc_detective:

Intro

Nice, chill and not too long either. Liked the added sounds such as the driving sounds and such. Did you grab that 'change the tunes man' from the game audio files somewhere? The spinny car thingy where the background changes after the song switch was well executed, liked that as well. The thing that sticks with me the most though is the thought that we definitely need a new MO logo, because that was the worst part of the intro for me  And I reckon you did the scripting yourself here as well, noice  :)

Stunting

Boost to Moist Hotel top: Nice approach to flip the car early, otherwise this boost becomes impossible. Execution with the spins was awesome. Great choice to start the video with.
Dropboost to black top precision: Don't think this precision was landed much with taxis in general, and this was a good find. Have to admit the first 90 degree tilted camera angle was a bit hard to watch.
Prehops to boost to sunshine autos billboard: One of my favorites, looks great and must be tough to land. This precision hasn't seen much action either which adds to the coolness.
Flat taxi boost to blue precision LS: Nice one. Unrelated question but nobody landed that lower precision behind it, right?
Linerunner boost to boost to precision docks: Very cool find and a great execution as well! After what Barney did with that vehicle I thought that was it but apparently there was another cool use.
Waterside dropboost to billboard: Also one of my favorites. Gotta get the angle juuuuust right on the transition to fly towards the billboard (at least that's what it looks like). Always a fan of those waterside drops.
Stadium boost to airport tower LV: Looks tough. The edges on the tower help a bit but knowing the zebra a bit it will bounce out 99/100 times  Can imagine this one must have taken quite long to nail even if others look harder. Good job on this.
Grind to boost 2 precision: First off, nice transition between these two stunts. And the stunt itself was also very nice of course. Had two ideas for this precision but I can just delete those spots now because this is the best way out of those three. Great one.
Boost to blue precision near pier LS: Think this is old in SA right? Most likely tricky to land but not the biggest fan.
Military fence boost to red bridge precision SF: Another low fence boost where you have to preflip the zebra otherwise it doesn't work. Looks annoying to land, nice job.
Big boost to orange casino LV: Right before the landing I thought it was going to be the precision and I was already on my way to jump out of my chair when I realised it wasn't, but that was my bad  :euro: Looks like 1000ft+ but boost to just roofs isn't my favorite unless the boost was out of the box.
Boost to doublegrind cherry popper: Eyyyyyyyyy this was awesome. Never even considered that second grind to be useful as a grind. Stylish transition hop as well. Looks very tricky. Awesome stunt.
Prehop to smallfenceboost to orange precision: Would've never found this, ever. Was looking for new cool ways for this and this certainly is one of them. One of my favorites, excellent find and stunt.
Kenjis Casino boost to Barney precision: just going to name it that because I always name it that  :ninja: but anyway, had to rewind this boost to watch it again because I had no idea this was possible. Holy moly the air you got from that boost, have to try this one myself. What a killer. Execution was fucking perfect as well. Tied for favorite stunt of the video for me.

Gigantic boost to park pit precision: Never been a big fan of landing anything in this pit but from a reliable source I heard this was 1200ft which is just a bit mad. Nice one.
Cool set-up to watersideboost to stadium antenna: This is the other one that is tied for first place for me. Awesome from start to finish and excellent execution. I think both Mateus and I have done similar set-ups to get to certain walls but this one is much better imo, what a freaking great find. Okay maybe this is my favorite, Kenji's has been demoted to second place.
Wrong side taxi boost to bridge precision: must've been annoying to do, never really experimented with it because it was too annoying haha. Liked it, and nice execution as well.
Boost 2 TurBo bridge: ye you get to have your name for this bridge  :cc_detective: Cool one.
Another boost to black top precision: Better than the first one imo, awesome job. And another great transitions from Max into the next stunt!
Palmboost to roof: this is what I meant by 'I'm not a fan of a boost to just a roof unless the boost was out of the box' because this one sure is. Very nice find! And nice camera transition between the two angles when landing on the roof. Great stunt.
Palmboost to construction site precision: Not the biggest fan, and somewhere deeeeeep inside I want to say I've seen it before but I'm probably wrong. Looked very cool though!
Boost 2 glitched taxi hit 2 letting it fall onto the precision: Haha, I knew you were experimenting with doing something with those glitched taxi's in mid air. Very cool! Think you showed some screenshots or whatever quite a long time ago.
Guest stunt(s) by Max: Not the biggest fan either, sorry. Someone did it with a bike or car before if I recall correctly. Transition to this stunt was very nice though, again  :) Shows real intention behind the cameras you chose which is good to see!
Vertical boost to bridge precision: I tried to do many things with a bike there until Barney had that leftover replay in his Unusual Cruelty replays. Never thought this was doable like that with a taxi, good find! Liked it.
Junk yard double grind: this is the sort of stunt I expected when I started watching this video, awesome stunt and awesome execution. More of this!  :a-cheer:
Boost to precision firestation: Another good find, looked around this area but once again your movements to get to a position where you can get a good boost are what makes it doable. Great one and nice execution.
Turbo's Real Estate boost to roof: Would've never spotted this if you hadn't said I would need to look at the finisher to find the easter egg Max  :ninja: So thanks for not making me waste my time not finding anything haha. This is one of the stunts I knew you were trying (and landed I see). For me it was a bit of an anti climax since this falls into the 'just a boost to roof' category but I'm just a shithead when it comes to that  :euro: There were better finisher choices imo. It was a video with lots of awesome out of the box thinking and then the finisher fits right in the middle of the box  It's still a great stunt for sure don't get me wrong!

Editing
Just going to throw the outro in this category as well since I have to continue work sometime soon  I already named a few transtions and things here and there in the stunting part so I'm skipping those but this edit was very nice indeed. On a few of the big stunts the hang time maybe wasn't too obvious, like on the LV airport tower it was hard to get an idea of what the stats were. Other than that I enjoyed it all, and the music selection was very nice and very fitting. Nice last scene of the video as well! Be careful with those extremely tilted cameras though like on the second stunt and some in the credits. There is a fine line between a nice tilt and hard to watch  :euro:

Yeah all dialogue/sound effects of the game are in the audio folder, there is a directory that lists most of them here:  https://gtamods.com/wiki/Audio_directory_(VC)

Also thanks for all the positive comments about the edit! Major shoutouts go out to MtS for teaching me how to script, without him this project would have taken much longer to complete.

This solo was so great it even lured out long-dead stunters! Sad to know it wasn't enough for a comment by SS.
On a serious note, it was really amazing, you seem to do these boosts so conveniently I believe that this is easy. My favs are definitely: the stadium satellite landing, crazy combo to get there; the boost using the palm back to the hotel (also I liked how you set up the spot with those jumps beforehand); the first part opener (really stylish landing) and the stunt at 4:32 because the side of the fence just fits the size of the taxi, it looked so cool and the landing was great as well.
The video couldn't be this good without this editing. Max delivered once again, really pleasant atmosphere, cool songs, all in all a very enjoyable video. So great job both of you!

Caught this at work on a teeny-tiny phone screen YT window. Just re-watched on a bigger screen and I'm glad I took the time - a little screen in no way does this vid justice. It's so great to see Taxi stunting not only still a popular type of stunt, but an evolving one. So many of the stunts in this vid proved that you don't need a high flat wall to nail a great taxi stunt. Sometimes a 3ft fence will do just fine. Tonnes of variety, tonnes of neat precision landings (which can be pricks to get) and a tonne of ingenuity.

I've always maintained that stunting is 90% luck and 10% actual skill - but having said that, knowledge and experience of the way the game works can give you a huge advantage in bringing that luck about a little easier. Excelsus is a vid made by guys who know the game and how it ticks - particularly when it comes to taxis, which can be fickle beasts at the best of times.

Editing was smooth and well executed with some nice coded shots (I do love those) and a general "ah, we're just havin a laugh" attitude, which is great. It's prompted me to delve into MO's back catalogue and see what I've been missing out on.

Great work, guys. It's lovely to know that this stuff is still being made.
