--------------[span style=\'color:white\']Sketchup Building Tutorial Part 1[/span]--------------

[span style=\'color:white\']Introduction[/span]

In this tutorial I will be showing you how to build a simple house.

[span style=\'color:white\']Materials Needed[/span]
  • Sketchup 4.0
You can get an 8 hour free trial by clicking here:

http://sketchup.com/?section=downloads ( Find it on this page )

[span style=\'color:white\']Getting Started[/span]

Here is what the basic layout of sketchup looks like:

Down the right hand side are the tools you will be using. As you can see on the white screen, there are 3 different color axis. Red, blue and green. Red and green run on the same plane, and blue goes up ( and down ) as illustrated in this pic:

We can start by selecting the line tool. Once you have this selected draw a line along the green axis, the line should turn green as illustrated in this pic:

Once you've done that, click on the endpoint of the last line you drew and draw another line on the red axis as shown here:

Your half way there on making the base of your house. Once you've made that 2nd line, make the 3rd like this:

After that just draw the last line like this:

You should know have something like this:

If you dont have something like that, please read the tutorial again, and see where you went wrong. Now is the next step, lets give the house some height.

Select the line tool and pick a corner and draw a line up on the blue axis like this:

From there draw a line on the red or green axis and keep any eye out for blue dotted lines as shown in this pic:

After that line is made you need to make a line straight down, when your making the line down it should turn blue as shown here:

Once you've done that and have right click you should be looking at something like this:

If you have that, finish the rest of the walls yourself. You should then have a 3d cube / square like this:

If you have what looks like a 3d box, congrats. A good tool to use from here would be the orbit tool This tool simply lets you orbit around your object.

Ok the the next thing were gonna do is add a roof. So I want you to find the midpoint of the red and green axis by selecting the line tool and running it along the edge of the object until you see a little aqua dot like the one shown in this pic:

Once you found the midpoint draw a line across the object like so:

Now find the midpoint of the line we just drew and draw a line up, remember, the line should be blue:

After that, using the eraser tool erase those lines we made across the object, not the line we drew up. So it should now look like this:

Now just select the line tool and from the top of the line we made draw a line to every corner and you'll have a roof lookin like this:

[span style=\'color:white\']Click Here[/span]

You can now add doors and windows to your liking, or whatever else you'd like. Just experiment with the house you made.

Aight thats 'bout it, I hope someone makes something :P Thanks for reading.
