Makes you think a bit... Guess there is a bit of a pissing contest these days, I try not to let my ego get the best of me though. I don't really care if people say I'm the best or anything, I like to stunt when it's fun and if people like the stunts I do then that's cool :]
-
Damn, man, thank god this was 10 MBs lol.
Well anyway, nice perspective. I usually spend 15 minutes trying a stunt, and the feeling when I got the stunt is much more than 5 seconds, MA. Every try I get gives me fun, and usually when I don't find a stunt fun I go to another spot and try it instead, I don't spend 3 days on stunts (except the one on Radiance 2, that was a bitch, but it was fun as fuck ) Well, I don't usually join 24 hour videos since I go wherever my mind takes me, and I want to stunt not under deadlines. And thats why I have like 70-80 unused stunts (and 70-80 used stunts lol) Well anyway, nice video. I like the text.
-
Hmmmmmmm.............Talk about being dramatic
What do I gain out of this?
Well I can't speak for others but personally what I have gained is meeting a shitload of cool people and making some really good friends. I came here with no expectations, no delusions, just to a place where the people had a common interest. That interest being stunting.
What makes someone a great stunter?
IMO, attitude. Of course thier stunting ability is a factor. Just because they can do some truely great stunts in a vid doesn't make them so great. Especially if they walk around here with this "my shit doesn't stink" attitude. Someone "great" doesn't brag about it 24/7, doesn't rub it in other peoples faces. The ones I'd consider "great" are the ones who'll help out when ya ask them, who find something good to say about every video and show respect to "everyone" on the forums.
Is it worth spending 3 to 4 hours on a stunt for 5 seconds of glory?
Glory huh? 3 to 4 hours? Try up to 20 hours And do I find it "worth" it? Again I can't speak for others but I personally find the time I spent "worth" it. I enjoy stunting, it's challenging, entertaining and above all else, fun.
And about peoples egos. We all have egos to feed to some degree. Guess that's human nature. Putting them in perspective is what a few people seem to have difficulty with.
-
I have ego it is in my hip-pocket.....
-
Iam farted one
Stop spamming with a similar name to mine
-
in the outside world, im generally not a well accepted person. people say im "funny and crazy" and all that shit. but what else am i? nothing much.
stunting is what i do to get away from it all. making a video with my talents and making fellow stunters accept me makes me feel alot more than the psycho in the schoolyard. stunting is just.... all im good for.
'scuse me while i sit here for a moment.
-
See ya dude.
Some people will agree. But people wont change. Its the culture of this place, if you didnt buy into it then how did you get sick of it?
You have your reasons to leave, others have reasons to stay. No one is more right than anyone else. Thanks for presenting your point of view, but it is only one amongst a sea of others

Downloading. Fast.

Wow, that got me thinking

Downloading.
What? O_o 11 mb :S lol idon't undestand..

No truer words have ever been...ah...typed...and then rendered...and then...uh...played...by me...on my...thingy.
This is the kind of wake-up call this forum sorely needs. Congrats MA, and thanks for making an effort to knock us all back down to earth
To comment on a few of the points:
I don't think any stunter should ever really be considered 'great'. Ghandi was great, Abraham Lincoln was great...I don't think either of them stunted. We're not changin the world here, we're spending hours on end playing a video game. If those hours were spent helping the homeless, or volunteering for blood drives...THAT would be great. Designating labels to stunters to differentiate good/bad/worse just leads to a certain segment of the community feeling inadequate, and other sections beginning to believe their own hype.
Have I spent hours on a stunt before? Yes...certainly. I wasn't doing it so much for the 5 seconds of glory, it was more about the challenge I put to myself to get the damn thing. I remember when I was a kid, people would literally spend hours trying to solve their Rubik's Cube...it's all about what you find challenging. Now, however...I'm a lot more inclined to spend that time with my girlfriend, or doing things to help my business along.
Regarding egos...that's becoming a HUGE problem on these forums. I know it doesn't bother a lot of people here, but it's one of the main reasons I don't post here a lot anymore. I tend to want to be tolerant and not really upset anyone too much...and to that end, I avoid posting because I know I'm just gonna start using words like 'jackass' and 'egotistical monkey#$%*er'. Sure there's always been at least one or two egos here, but lately it seems that every second stunter thinks too highly of themselves.
Anyways...enough of my rant...I'm tired, haven't had my Geritol and my girlfriend fell asleep before I could...
...
...play parchese with her...if ya catch my drift.
I implore everyone to not skim over MAs words and forget them in the time it takes the vid to finish. Take it all on board and consider them carefully. Cheers.
-
O_o Where did you seen any stunt???
Kan, were you blocked me?
-
I agree with everything you said, honestly. I'm still gonna carry on though.
-
I agree, but i do it for fun too Yet i also stunt to impress at the same time, landing a impressive stunt is fun, and people HAVE fun watching those impressive stunts, so i have fun and give others fun at the same time, thats what keeps me here, but cya
-

FUCK YOU
I waited for the best stunt vid from the comments, and then....
oh..
-
Well, i haven't been back in the scene long but i do see the point your getting at MA , i remember back in the day when you, me , Gamer & Link were rebuilding Vert - it was all fun for me back then - and since coming back , and just relaesing my first vid i can still say i did it for the fun factor !
I don't have time to spend on a game all day trying to impress someone - i pull off a stunt while playing , i record it and slap it in a vid
On the subject of great stunters only a few come to mind - when i first got into i really enjoyed Pyromaniac's vids when we were on Modshack , then as the community progressed Ampt's vids were always good because they were always new tricks .
But my definition of great stunters are the people who inspired to pick up my pad again - 3 years ago it was the lads from Decans Auto's who's vid i loved and i wanted a go myself .
Most recentley the thing that brought me back to stunting was a conversation with you on MSN and seeing Post Mortem by Daffy !
I salute the people who inspire me
So for now - i will keep riding , doing easy stunts and just try to make people smile with my videos .
Mak.

I can't help but feel I'm part of the big ego problem I don't do it on purpose
-
dling...
-
nice video.
-
That actually got me thinking about quitting again..
-
I hate to say it...but I just don't think this thread or the video will do any good. It was a good video dude, no doubt...I agree. But the problem is that everyone will then reply "Yeah, you know, you're right!" "Yeah, let's all make up and stuff." But then they'll get out of this thread, have a good laugh, and then go and get in some shitty flame war about their abilities or something else mentioned in the video. I think someone said something about it's about time the forums got a good kick in the teeth, but I'm pretty sure the effect was more something like *Sighs*...eh, it ain't me that's doing it, I'm innocent...*Continues being an asshole* You just can't make some people see what needs to be seen. But good message, MA, I've always respected you for stuff like this.
-
Stunt:
"A feat displaying unusual strength, skill, or daring.
Something done to attract attention or publicity" I see nothing in here about competition.
All I want is to be accepted, as with many of the newer stunters. It seems alot of the older stunters have shunted us, and we just want them to respect us. So we compete. Its everyones fault here, nothing will change, and it seems nothing will be better until your on top.
People come, people go. But you, you left a impact and for that I respect you. See ya later bro, hope you find somewhere else to spend your time.
-
Hope it opens peoples eyes. I just quit after I knew I was nothing to this community.
-
I don't see the big "open your eyes" thing here.
I think it's rather sad that most of you go "yeah i agree" without actually giving it some thinking.
Most of us do this because we enjoy doing it, we spend a lot of time on it, we challenge ourselves, compete with other people who enjoys doing the same.
Who can honestly say they hate the feeling they get when they land a stunt they've been working on for so land, that awesome rush and that joy you feel when showing it to people and getting comments like "OMFG SICK STUNT DUDE, Great job!".
We might not be great persons who tries to change the world but we're not trying to change the world neither, all we want is to have a good time, we are persons who does stunts in a game, some stunts are harder than others and a person who does many of them is often called a great stunter.
I don't see why you gotta piss on what you have been spending hours and hours on, why should you look at yourself as pathetic or anything bad if you've only been doing what you enjoy, something you care about, something that matters to you which you think it's worth spending as much time as you do on.
You guys really need to think for yourself instead of just following some "mature thinkers" here, if you see something that's well written and if it's by someone who's respected here you guys follow it like it's the truth.
The bottom line: If you're doing something you enjoy and if it's not hurting anyone including yourself i don't see why that's a bad thing.
-
^too true.
wait... do you want me to agree?
-

If we shouldn't hate on ourselves...then why is it that after 100+ hours (easily) of busting my balls on stunts, the best comment I've ever gotten was "Pretty nice". (I mean, I've gotten a "Very creative"...but that's just the idea, not the execution.) People are getting way too damn strict about stunts. It all comes back to the old stunt argument, always has. As long as people bitch about old stunts, it won't be as fun for anyone. I agree that this is all about having fun, but it is no fun when people piss on your work just because it was done before. Well I better end this rant before I'm late for school
-
Imo that should only be a challenge for yourself to try harder stunts and push yourself harder
-
^ exactly ...opinions. They tend to differ alot here, and well people may not agree, but everyone should have the courtesy to respect each others words.....even if you don't.....there is no need to push buttons.
Sure some have a very competitive nature.....not me....but fine.....just be aware that some people aren't in the same boat as you.
Losing stunts does suck, but you should have more fun doing the stunt than showing it off for me....if its a great stunt, i'll still use it and i'll be happy to know that someone nailed it, and got the satifaction i got ...hopefully.
-
I didn't see that coming at all. You speak the truth though, we don't get anything from stunting except the huge adrenaline rush from landing a stunt. I do it for the adrenaline rush, it feels good.
-
"wow" was my first reaction when reading this topic. So many opinions and they all sound very true.
I too get a rush when just nailing a stunt. But still i have the feeling i want to show it off and impress the people who i admire. I think thats because everyone (well almost everyone) wants to be excepted. And I can't really do something about it (probably i'm writing this post to be excepted as well).
I know that all off this sounds realy vague but it's just my opinion.
About the vid: I think it's good MisguidedAngel posted this 'message', at least we are talking about it. And i think it can't be bad to doubt yourself and what you are doing once a while.
-
I dont need someone to make a vid like that to think about this, I already did and made my thoughts.
I think that... If you dont drink water at all, you'll die, but if you drink 10 bottles a day you'll probably get something bad (at least they said so in the Dr.House) everything is OK if it is not exagerated. A person told me to enjoy life to the fullest once... I'm trying to, that's why I try not to spend too much time on playing a videogame. Nevertheless, I enjoy playing gta and editing vids of course, otherwise why do you think I would be here?
-
wow very impressive
i liked the text mucho gusto
-
Not that people will red this part but here my friends is why I did this video,
I'm happy with the reactions I've got thus far, having mixed feelings was my ideal situation. I know that some of you agree, some don't, and some of you say "Ya, i've been thinking this for ages"
Ya, you can think the same shit as me all you want, are you going to actually do something about it?
(Insert questionable doubts here)
Do I think this video is serving its purpose? Over 500 views, I'm pretty happy with that as is. But I'll wait for another crew video to hit and to read those replies before I can see if this message will set in.
To direct a lil more, this video was made due to TMS and XSA's "As One Again" video. This is not an attack by any means as I did not actually download said video, I only looked at the thread and what became an ego contest, an orgy of and things to that degree.
Am I still gonna see ego's around here? Of course, Am I going to continue to voice my opinions when I wish to.
Your damn right...

Sorry for bump but does anyone have this solo?
