Buying a PC
« on: November 03, 2009, 09:38:34 AM »
So yeah, I'm planning on buying a new PC as mine is starting to age a bit.

But, I have no idea whats good or what not. Can anyone assist me on this manner?

Preferably something not too expensive and something which could run GTA4 at decent FPS.

Thanks.

That'd be a A:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 boxed, 12MB, LGA775, 64bit (be sure its an E0) 200€
ASUS P5Q Deluxe, Sockel 775 Intel P45, ATX  117€
Powercolor HD5850 1024MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 250€
Corsair XMS2 Dominator Xtreme Performance TwinX Matched - Memory - 4 GB 112€
SCYTHE Mugen 2 40€

~~~720€  - Of course you could also go with an i5 build but I doubt you can get such a great GFX card within your budget then..Clock the Q9550 to 4ghz and It'll beat the i5 :P
I see you keep up-to-date with the new hardware  :ajajaxh5:
I can't really argue with KM. Except you could go with a better cooler, like a Megahalem or maybe a Xigmatek. I have the P5Q Pro which is almost the same as a P5Q Deluxe, and I can tell you from experience that it's a very stable system with lots of tweaking options.
If you can afford it, I would spend the extra cash and get the i5 or i7 system. But that's only if you can afford it.
EDIT: Or overclock the i5 or i7 to 4GHz and leave the Q9550 in the dust  :P
The Megahalems is slightly better but it looks crap and is too expensive IMO  :cc_detective:
that core 2 quad aint gonna run gtaiv on more than 30 fps with higher-settings.
i7 has lately been the best for gtaiv as it can rip 50-60. try going for that, as of now, its to late to go with an old cpu, such as the 9550.
I also had a question, I have a phenom II x4 or whatever, but I'm getting horrible FPS, is that just my graphics card being bad or is it just a bad processor? :P
i have the phenom ii 940. it gives an average fps for me of about 20-30 with max settings. sometimes goes down to 15 fps at night. the phenom ii is good, like km said but still not enough (imo) for gtaiv. but then again, gtaiv is poorly optimized so....
KillaMarci suggested a very good setup, I have something similar except I use a GTX260 and a Q8200 with stock clocks, and it runs most things on max with more than 30fps. I can also record IV with 30fps at max using this system, I would get what KM suggested.
u must oc for good fortune genyus. :P dont keep that shit on stock if u planning on buying. my oc resulted in about a 8-9 fps gain in gtaiv, moving from 3 to 3.6 ghz. so it helps, quite a lot.
