Computer Talk / Help with SATA HDD not opening...
« on: December 12, 2007, 09:19:23 AM »
Ok i goofed somewhere, my PC treats any S-ATA device like its Plug-and-Play so even my System Hard Drive appears in the 'safely remove hardware' window.

Thing is, my PC auto sets a default action for every PnP device, and i cant change what it set for my HDDs, so when i go to My Computer and double click my C or F drives, they dont Open, i have to Right-Click and select 'Open' or 'Explore'

How can i restore double-click? Its really annoying me now.

Computer Talk / PC Selling Help
« on: August 22, 2007, 09:51:54 AM »
I'm selling my PC i have now to aid paying for my new one, i'll start bidding on eBay UK for a reasonable price.

Can any of the PC pros around here tell me how much i should sell it for approx? The PC I want to get is £405 ($810)

My current has:

AMD Sempron 3000+ Processor (1.8GHz)
MSI K8-MMV AGP/Skt 754 Motherboard
1GB DDR Ram
GainWard nVidia 7800 GS AGP GFX Card w/ 512mb memory (This is one of the most powerful AGP cards ever made, it uses the 7900 Chipset and runs very well for an AGP)
2x 80Gb Hard Drives (IDE)
1x 52x CD 16x DVD Rom Drive
Sound Card with 5:1 Output (Forgot the make)
400w PSU

Its a good PC, quite fast, but i need more  It cost me £500 in parts, the GFX alone is still worth £150

So if anyone can help me find a suitable selling price in £ GBP ($2 = £1 approx for you Americans if you can help)

The PC I'm getting has an E6600 Dual Core and 2Gb ram  (I'm getting a GTS 8800 after a month of the new PC)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hopefully i can get to around the £300 - £350 mark

Tutorials / [SA] MTA Map Making Tutorial
« on: July 13, 2007, 08:13:04 AM »
How to Make MTA: SA Maps
----------------------------------------
Ok guys, another of my tutorials, not in video this time but easy enough to follow

Anyway, this guide will show you the basics of making maps
----------------------------------------

Part 1. Making a New Map File

[attachment=5573:mta_screen0001.jpg]

[attachment=5574:mta_screen0002.jpg]

Hit 'New Map' on the Map Editor start screen and then name your map whatever you want.

----------------------------------------

Part 2. Adding a Spawnpoint

[attachment=5575:mta_screen0003.jpg]

First you will see this screen, it is the basis of all adding/removing/changing items in a map. Go to 'Add Element' and press Enter.

[attachment=5576:mta_screen0004.jpg]

Next go to 'Create Spawnpoints' (Simple logic eh?)

[attachment=5577:mta_screen0005.jpg]

Ok, now see we have an NRG displayed, use the mouse to move this around, and use w/a/s/d keys to move around the landscape. Once you find a nice location, click the NRG and it will be placed.

Also note with a spawnpoint you can rotate it using the mouse wheel or CTRL + Left / Right.

[attachment=5578:mta_screen0006.jpg]

I decided to put mine atop the LS Tower. You can put yours wheever you want. If you want to place more than one spawn, either duplicate the previous one with Shift + F9 or go through the above steps again.

Using Home/End will raise or lower the spawnpoint. This can be handy so dont forget.

----------------------------------------

Part 3. Adding Checkpoints

[attachment=5579:mta_screen0007.jpg]

Go back to the 'Add Element' screen and select 'Add Checkpoints' now, like with your spawnpoint, place the blue checkpoint marker wherever you want it to be. I chose this stretch of road. Also with checkpoints you can change it to a circular one for plane checkpoints or precision stunt markers by tapping F12. Also hold CTRL and use the mouse wheel to change the color of the checkpoint.

----------------------------------------

Part 4. Adding Pickups

a) Vehicle Pickups:

[attachment=5580:mta_screen0008.jpg]

[attachment=5581:mta_screen0009.jpg]

[attachment=5582:mta_screen0010.jpg]

Vehicle Pickups change your current car in MTA to the one you specify. They are placed from the 'Add Element -> Add Pickups -> Vehicle Change Pickup' Selection menu. Once placed, hit F3 and select 'Change Vehicle' then fidn the car you want it to chnage you to, i chose to change me to an infernus.

Again, these can be raised and lowered with Home/End buttons. Holding Shift while moving increases speed, Holding X will decrease the speed if you need to be precise.

 Nitro Pickups:

[attachment=5584:mta_screen0011.jpg]

Available from the same menu as the Car Pickup, these are simply like checkpoints, place them, duplicate, no extra settings to be done.

c) Repair Pickups:

[attachment=5585:mta_screen0012.jpg]

Same as before, just place them where needed.

----------------------------------------

Part 5. Placing Objects

[attachment=5586:mta_screen0013.jpg]

Go to 'Add Element -> Add Objects' then hit 'Browse' on the next menu.

[attachment=5587:mta_screen0014.jpg]

[attachment=5588:mta_screen0015.jpg]

Browse the object menus until you find a suitable object, i have chosen 'Structures -> Ramps -> waterjump1' as my object, hit X and position it like any other object.

[attachment=5589:mta_screen0016.jpg]

Now, you can do many things with objects, heres a quick guide:

Raise Object: Home
Lower Object: End
Move Object North (+X): Up
Move Object South (-X): Down
Move Object East (+Z): Right
Move Object West (-Z): Left
Rotate around X: CTRL + Left/Right
Rotate Around Y: CTRL + Up/Down
Rotate Around Z: CTRL + Home/End

Holding Shift while doing any of these will increase the speed.
Holding X while doing these will slow it down for more precise movements.

Duplicating:

F9: Duplicate Object
Shift + F9: Duplicate Object and move it straight away
CTRL + F9: Duplicate Object in the same position as the original (Be careful doing this as it is hard to tell where 2 objects are if you forget about this, always move the second object straight after duplicating)

----------------------------------------

Hope this tutorial helped a few people, hope to see some people making some nice maps for the MTA server too

SketchUp 2 GTA VC/LC/SA Video Tutorials
By ImPaKt

Here you go, my first video tutorial series. I'll get the rest of the parts rendered and uploaded today.

Videos are 1280x1024 in size, and are very high quality.

You will need (Click names for links to the specific item):

 - SketchUp Pro (Needed for exporting the .3ds file of a model, link is the trial version)
 - 3DS Max 9 (30 day trial, registration required by following link half way down the page)
 - KAMs 3DS Max Scripts (For importing/exporting DFF, COL etc in 3DS Max
 - TXD Workshop
 - G-TXD (For creating and editing TXD files. Generates compressed files, good for large mods)
 - Coll Editor II
 - Moo Mapper (If mapping for VC/LC)
 - mED (If mapping GTA SA)

Part 1 - Modelling

SketchUp includng 4 walls, floor, roof,
door and chimney.

----------------------------------------

Part 2 - Scaling

Learn how to scale your model using another
model as a reference. Scaling is important else
you end up with models that are 10 times
bigger than everything else

Duration: 4:33
Size: 9.5mb

Required Files:
GTA VC Coach .3ds File

----------------------------------------

Part 3 - Texturing

Teaching how to texture your house with
default materials, and importing custom
ones. Larger size as textures gave
the video a lot more detail.

NOTE: Make sure that any textures used on
your model are sized by multiples of 2.
Such as: 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256,
512x512 and so on. A size of 123x456
or any other mis-sized image would crash GTA.

Part 4 - Exporting and Finalising Model

A copy of 3DS Max will be required for
this tutorial. You can pick up a 30 day
trial at www.autodesk.com

Part 5 - Creating the COL File

How to create the .col that will be used
with your .dff file in GTA.

Size: 3mb

----------------------------------------

Part 6 - Creating the TXD File

How to put your textures into a .txd file
for use in GTA.

NOTE: Personally I would use G-TXD
for the texture editing. It is a lot easier to
use and TXD Workshop is not very stable
at creating new TXDs and can sometimes
corrupt them. G-TXD can be found at the
top of the page. Make sure to use DXT1
compression with G-TXD as a 2mb TXD can
be compressed to under 400kb

Part 7 - Getting Everything In-Game

Putting the .dff, .txd and .col into GTA
using Moo Mapper.

----------------------------------------

Check back, I'll update the details on the other videos as they are uploaded.

These tutorials are for Sketchup 2 VC/LC. In the videos i give hints when needed on how you can do it for SA. If you still need help, feel free to ask me by PM, here or on MSN @ [email protected]

Happy Mapping!

Guys, I'd love to see what you guys can come up with, so follow the tutorials, make your own content and POST SOME PICS!

Thanks all.

2 new news snippets.

Launch of IV might be pushed back by 2 weeks to allow Halo 3 release hype to die down, and to avoid that harming initial sales.

Also, a feature accidentally shown in a demo, the trunk of your car can be opened for storing bags, weapons, or, erm.... last nights hoe.

Computer Talk / CD Drive

Ok... warning everyone not to use PowerISO's virtual drive software

My CD/DVD drive will not list anymore yet it is fully plugged in and that. It won't be recognised by my PC since it 'thinks' i got rid of it.

PowerISO's virtual drive stole the drive letter from my CD Drive (D:\) and when i uninstalled after the trial it removed D:\ ... that was my main DVD drive. I now cannot run CD's or anything else from that drive.

ANy ideas?

Ok, guys who used/used Edison Carter's cheat device for LCs may or may not know that Sony's Firmware upgrade 2.71 removes the save game exploit in LCS which the device DEPENDED on to function.

If you want to take part in some of the challenges, please, do not upgrade... The cheat device has no other way of working

ok guys, i landed both of these today, didn't take long, this is just GB practice for n00bs.

Reach both billboards, each one must be flawless. (Don't try getting both in 1 rep, 2 reps are fine.)

So, the challenge.
