Mod-Spotting
« on: November 28, 2010, 09:35:28 PM »
The two main problems.

1.finding the modders
2. taking care of the modders.

The only reason I'm even making this topic is because there's more learning to run before walking.
By this I mean everybody is so caught up in punishing modders than actually finding and confirming who they are.

So what do we do? I mean some idiot decided to mod-accuse on an OLD video that was too simple and clean to even be modded. so let's do something before more modders get away and make us look foolish.

Here are some suggestions.

 - A collab which purposely has SOME modded stunts to test which ones were modded. stunters tell the editor which is modded and people try and guess.

 - A game in which someone mods a stunt, people can guess where the stunt was modded, and what type of mod it was.

well that was a book load of suggestions but what do you think?

Either learn to mod yourself, so you can determine who else mods. Or another way would be to
really get to know your game, once you know what the physics are, it isn't hard to understand
what is possible & what isn't. Learning the physics can also help you determine if a stunt is
modded or not, simply by knowing what angles/speeds = heights/distances.

There's not a problem, people just need to have the sense to avoid letting modders in their videos. If they let modded stunts in, that's their own fault for not being able to pick it up. If you see a modded stunt, call it out, if you don't, then don't. Then, move on, because despite what people want you to do there's no point in arguing with them about it :)

The fact of the matter is, it's not an easy thing to spot, few people can actually spot mods and even then we make mistakes.

Modding is not a good thing but it's a lot worse when the whole community jumps on the bandwagon and accuses everyone of modding. Look at half the video topics around, 99% of them have at least 1 modding accusation..

Finding mods will never be hole proof but the more you care the more it affects us...

I disagree that it isn't easy to spot, I think people don't mention it so they don't come across at douchebags :P

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't but even when it is, there are other possible causes.. granted.. chances are that it is modding..

In saying that, you've accused pretty much everyone of modding at some point

I think you should stop posting about anything mod-related mate, you're starting to brainwash me into thinking that you're actually clean.

OT: Interesting, maybe worth a shot.

You beg for it just as much by feeding those who want to annoy you. You should learn to just ignore these people and they'll leave you alone. Like before each press of the "Post" button you think for a while, helps a lot dude. I'm not against you or anything, I just want you to stop asking for what you're getting.

Don't give me the "I answer as they ask" or any of that bullshit about giving back what they're trying to bring to you, just ignore them. Start out by ignoring this post and MMM's above.

I'll try, but let me just say that I'm not begging for attention by wanting less.

I, Tacojoe, Delfy, Shadowsniper, Rochepeach and krs should form a team that decides what's modded or not, cause all of us are pretty experienced modders. Sometimes our thoughts about the legitimacy of some stunts might conflict, but we could do a poll, vote, and see what happens.
In order to spot modding, you need to know the games physics well, but it's more important to know how mods are affecting them.

if someone uses higher mass or sth, its easy to spot because you can make those funny compare videos. its the best proof, however nobody gives a shit about them, dunno why.
protip: if you want to mod something big, and you dont want to get caught, you must be in a huge network crew.
