SketchUp 2 GTA VC/LC/SA Video Tutorials
By ImPaKt
Here you go, my first video tutorial series. I'll get the rest of the parts rendered and uploaded today.
Videos are 1280x1024 in size, and are very high quality.
You will need (Click names for links to the specific item):
- SketchUp Pro (http://www.sketchup.com/?section=downloads) (Needed for exporting the .3ds file of a model, link is the trial version)
- 3DS Max 9 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=5972446) (30 day trial, registration required by following link half way down the page)
- KAMs 3DS Max Scripts (http://gtanet.com/kam/KAMS_Max.rar) (For importing/exporting DFF, COL etc in 3DS Max
- TXD Workshop (http://www.thegtaplace.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=722)
- G-TXD (http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=2078) (For creating and editing TXD files. Generates compressed files, good for large mods)
- Coll Editor II (http://www.steve-m.com/downloads/tools/colleditor2/)
- Moo Mapper (http://www.chronetal.co.uk/gta/) (If mapping for VC/LC)
- mED (http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=1053) (If mapping GTA SA)
----------------------------------------
Part 1 - Modelling
Shows how to model a simple house in
SketchUp includng 4 walls, floor, roof,
door and chimney.

Size: 7mb

----------------------------------------
Part 2 - Scaling
Learn how to scale your model using another
model as a reference. Scaling is important else
you end up with models that are 10 times
bigger than everything else
Duration: 4:33
Size: 9.5mb
Required Files:
GTA VC Coach .3ds File (http://www.sendspace.com/file/zjti11)

----------------------------------------
Part 3 - Texturing
Teaching how to texture your house with
default materials, and importing custom
ones. Larger size as textures gave
the video a lot more detail.
NOTE: Make sure that any textures used on
your model are sized by multiples of 2.
Such as: 32x32, 64x64, 128x128, 256x256,
512x512 and so on. A size of 123x456
or any other mis-sized image would crash GTA.

Part 5 - Creating the COL File
How to create the .col that will be used
with your .dff file in GTA.

Size: 3mb

----------------------------------------
Part 6 - Creating the TXD File
How to put your textures into a .txd file
for use in GTA.
NOTE: Personally I would use G-TXD
for the texture editing. It is a lot easier to
use and TXD Workshop is not very stable
at creating new TXDs and can sometimes
corrupt them. G-TXD can be found at the
top of the page. Make sure to use DXT1
compression with G-TXD as a 2mb TXD can
be compressed to under 400kb

using Moo Mapper.

Check back, I'll update the details on the other videos as they are uploaded.
These tutorials are for Sketchup 2 VC/LC. In the videos i give hints when needed on how you can do it for SA. If you still need help, feel free to ask me by PM, here or on MSN @ [email protected]
Happy Mapping!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys, I'd love to see what you guys can come up with, so follow the tutorials, make your own content and POST SOME PICS!
Thanks all.
-
Nice....
-
Hopefully these help a few people. I see people asking, they ask me on MSN and stuff. So i made a video series, its better than writing as i can show exactly how every bit is done, with helpful tips popping up.
Hope to see a few downloads, i'll get rendering Part 2 now

Uploading coach dff for tut 2
-
Impakt you're so awesome Thanks

-
No problem guys, Part 2 is now uploading.
I'm surprised that a 4 minute 1280x1024 video was only 7mb
Must be all the white background in sketchup
The moo tut's gonna be huge if this is the case.
EDIT: Thanks Aries for the pin.
EDIT 2: There was a problem uploading... GAHH!

FileFront (http://files.filefront.com/Part+1+++Modelingwmv/;7801534;;/fileinfo.html)
-
Parts 4 and 5 uploaded.
-
ok umm stupid question but, so this brings Sketch up stuff to GTA and other games? if yes..I got my house ready..
-
Would be very nice if people would notice, after i spent almost the entire night working all this out for you, and hand writing all the tip boxes, rendering, uploading etc...
Still only 2 downloads for part 1, and thats it!
-

Lol you're having the same problem as impakt did..
-
Scaling.
-
No AtomiK, the game seems to treat models as LOD's for us. They dissapear when close. Storm managed to get his working, I really dont have a clue as people who saw this tut over at GTAF had no troubles. So try asking over there in the thread i made.
-
isnt one of the objects in the dff named x and the other one x_lod or something? also Steves RWAnalyze can tag single meshes as "LOD" (Level of Detail Stream)
-
No Fox, for some reason i added a model named 'TUTHOUSE' to an ipl/ide called 'TUTORIAL' and it treats it as an LOD. I have no idea why and Torekk has the same trouble.
-
I've asked already on GTAForums.com, but I'll try later today if I got the same problem in SA.
-
Sorted problems yet?
-
Please Part 7 Rapidshare upload ...
-
Why did you PM that same thing to Torekk 6 times? He's not the uploader.
Part 7 is up on filefront... get it there.
-
Please Rapidshare Upload
-
I'll upload them all to rapidshare in a moment, dont the others work for you?
-
hey i couldnt find out how to make the ipl's for importing it into moo mapper
EDIT: nvm i missread something...but il update this later with my next problem
edit: ok well..i got it in there but... the game crashes when loading...the only things i know i did wrong but i duno how to fix lol is because im using a premade dff so i used the .txd that went with it...and in moo mapper its white...so...i duno how to fix it can any1 help? ... *tears* 1s i get these working il be able to get work done on the nitzkit mod xD lol
-
ATTENTION:
Make sure when making something in SketchUp that all the textures you use have names of 7 letters or less. When they get imported to 3ds they get shortened and no longer match the original image files that get put in the txd. This is a common cause of the white model bug.
If you have a textrue called material_a.jpg
Try shortening it to mtrl_a.jpg then applying it to the model in sketchup and continuing from there. It should work, this is what solved Storm's penis model being white (LOL, Stormies white penis)
Hope this helps.
-
thanx il check it out
-
FlatFace, did it fix your bugs?
-
More people need to see this and start getting buildings in game...we need more creative challenges .
-
YEAH THNX VENOM
We need some precision challenges, make huge ramps etc, try making a vc island 2 island ramp
-
Big bump, well not really, but, is this the same as if i wanted to convert a vehicle? or do i need a few more steps...
-
i help me A LOT Big Thanks Dude!
-
Big bump, well not really, but, is this the same as if i wanted to convert a vehicle? or do i need a few more steps...
Converting a car is hell.
It MIGHT be like this im not sure.
-
ImPaKt,
You may wanna add that when building, if the model is blue before texturning it, It doesent appear ingame. To fix it right click the moel and click the invert or somethin, It turns the model white.
-
I want to edit a building that's already ingame... would i have to do things differently, or basically just the same?
-
good
-
How do you use KAM's scripts? I unzipped the rar, but I don't know what to do from here.
Edit: nvm, just saw the scripts folder.
-
Could you re-upload the Coach .3ds file, I accidentally deleted it and I can't download it again.
EDIT: I don't need it anymore, but you could still re-upload it ;P
Anyway, anyone know how to fix the problem of the model disappearing when you go near it?
-
ok well, i do everything it said here and the model seems fine in mm but everytime i try and get ingame, i crash when loading...any1 know whats wrong?
-
Thanks for this, ill watch when I get back from school.
-
If I make a building, can somebody make it a mod so everyone else can enjoy it? Can interriors be made inside of the house?
-
ok here Rainbow said the link to the coach 3ds file for sketch up scaling was missing so i made a file with the packer lod (same size but less detail) and tommy next to it.. just fo you can scale n all that
>clicky< (http://rapidshare.com/files/141253183/packer_and_tommy.3DS.html)
EDIT: i sent it in the PM but i don't think you really want it Lol
-
awesome FF! now.. where that fanbar?
-
Hey, can u reupload your videos? Why you deleted them? :S
-
They were deleted by FileFront, not Impakt.
The tuts weren't all that helpful anyway *sorry Impy but you know it's true :P*
just download a trial of 3ds max and google "3ds max box modeling tutorial" to get the hang of modeling then go to gtaf then III era modding and look for some tutorials there.
-
Ok, nvm, fond Spanish version on YouTube >:D I will create russian version, lol :cheernutz:
-
videos don't work =[
-
I can't Start G-TXD . Error
-
Bumping this. I need this video tutorial very badly. Or another video series that goes this far in-depth would be hugely appreciated.

I would like it as well, if anyone still has them. I tried it a few times years ago but my game crashed as soon as I touched the house I made. Was thinking of trying it again because I got defeated :cc_detective:

Try GTAForums?
http://gtaforums.com/topic/547591-how-to-make-your-own-gta-sa-city-using-sketchup/ (http://gtaforums.com/topic/547591-how-to-make-your-own-gta-sa-city-using-sketchup/)
That's for SA but I'd assume VC works the same except you'd export it for VC in KAM's DFF tools.
-
That's helped some of the way, but I need the instructions on which files go where and which texts to edit etc. The pain in the ass side of it. Making a model and collision file I have under control.
-
Allow me to make your day (and my own). Luckily I downloaded them long ago but stored them under a rather stupid name :euro:

See that bike in my avatar? You've earnt it.
-
Okay now I'm extremely close to smashing my dick with an axe handle. I've followed this tutorial to the word, failed. Retextured the model in Zmod, the model now appears textured in MooMapper, still failed. Removed any text reference to the COL file, STILL failed just at a different spot on the loading bar. Rainbow please tell me you aren't having the same trouble.
E: Just opened the .dff in Zmod2, this message appears -
(http://i.imgur.com/nfmqhia.jpg)
E2: Started from scratch simply using a box, it works in Zmodeler and Moo Mapper AND MEd, COL file works in Coll Editor, but still the same errors occur.

-
Oh lawd a badass bike! Ossim!
And no I do not have the same problem, the only problem I ever had was that when I touched the house I made in-game, the game crashed. I never used Zmod though, just 3DSMax and Moo mapper. EDIT:// and sketchup obviously.
-
Use colleditor2 to change the collision type from 2 to 1. Impakt dun goof'd that part up.
