Title: Simon does VFX and 3D and Animation and Games
Post by: Simon on May 28, 2013, 12:14:33 PM
Hello guys, I do vfx every now and again. So I thought I'd share, and hope to get some feedback.

VFX Work
-------------------------------------
Jumping out of a window:
Jumps out of window (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpGiRYRjZUU#ws)
This was a fun little school project me and some friends did in 3 weeks time. I did all the vfx for it.

Movie Fixes:
Some simple effects (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnomEz4jv6c#ws)
This was something I did for a friend of a friend, nothing too fancy, but small things he wanted to fix with the shots.
Sadly I can't take credit for the Color correction, as it was done by my friend.
1st shot - Removed the car in the lower part of the shot
2nd shot - Removed the signs on that fence pole
3rd shot - Removed the red things in the water
4th shot - Switched the text on the sign

That's all for now, I'll update this shit when I upload more work

Maybe some dramatic music because the noise was annoying. Effects were nice but the blood was a bit too much imo.

So, since creating this topic I started going to a 3D Design and Animation course. So I thought I'd add that to this as well. Here is my newest model, a quite simple cartoony Cadillac, modeled in 4 hours  :euro:

So last week was spent texturing  :euro: I also decided to make new rims, because my last ones were rushed as hell.

After this week, I decided to put it in a proper scene and get some lighting in there. As well as I changed the material to a car paint material and I think it looks heaps better.

Ohoy, more stuff incoming!

So not too long ago we had a project were we were going to make a robot, what ever kind of robot we wanted. I decided to make a fun advertising robot. So after two weeks of planning, modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering, voila!

but now we have moved into the part of the course I have been looking forward to the most, Animation. We haven't gotten to character animation yet, but we're getting there. Thought I'd share a few things I did because feedback is key  :jajaja:

First something I did before we got too much into animation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUuGxKjMZW0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUuGxKjMZW0)

I made this by adding my TARDIS model to a curve and animating it along the curve. As well as keyframing in a few spins added effect.

Next up is the first time we animated with a rig other than a bouncing ball one, we spent an entire school day animating this and it was lots of fun:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3hGZu2be24 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3hGZu2be24)

Animated straight ahead, we were supposed to do blocking, but I wasn't too happy with mine so I went back and did it my preferred way instead  :P

And lastly a two cycle tests I did this weekend because I was bored. We haven't really gotten this far yet so I'm sure there is lots to fix up, but for now I'm pretty happy with what I got:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3ov4nHXflY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3ov4nHXflY)

Also keep in mind that all of these were focused on the animation alone, which is why the scenery was simple or non-existent

My balls are all over the place in this one
Bouncing ball project (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpuO__cMbJQ#ws)

We were given the task to animate one traditional bouncing ball and one that we should give character.

So now I've completed the 3D Design and Animation course and I thought I'd share some of the animations I did. The first video was for an assignment where we were asked to make a portfolio video of our best animations from the year. So this is that video, though keep in mind that all of these animations are far from perfect, but they all had a deadline between 1 or 2 weeks so I did what I could with the time I had. Anyway, Enjoy:

Character Animation Portfolio (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AyakYVJqlA#ws)

Also just wanted to note that the focus was completely on animation, nothing else mattered.

And then we had our last big animation project which we had 3 weeks to plan out and animate. It was sort of like an exam as it counted pretty heavily towards the final grade of the year. I ended up with this little thing:

Character Animation Project (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCcJ5ncdXXw#ws)

I got an A on it as well

And later this year I'm starting the 3D Game Design course so I'm sure I'll have more stuff to share later  :jajaja:

E: I should mention that I didn't create any of the characters or rigs used. All I did was animate  ;)

Hey it's me again :D This time I come to you with a level I made for my Game Design course. The main assignment was just that the level should be visually appealing with no particular focus on the gameplay or other things. Enjoy this little showcase video I did!

Title: Re: Simon does VFX and 3D.

I did everything, except make the engine  :P It was made in Unreal Engine 4, and All models were made by me and textures were taken/made from stock photos from www.cgtextures.com (http://www.cgtextures.com). Normals maps were either made by me in Zbrush or generated from the texture using crazybump

Awesome. How much time have you spent for this?
It was a 9 week project, but a few of them were preproduction. So the game itself maybe 7 weeks or so.

Can you stunt in that game?
No bumping, but you could always swim through tight spots and call it a precpass or whatever

It doesn't have an end. It's just a level you walk/swim around in, until you die I guess.

Good Day my men. So today was the deadline for our 6 month project. Which was "Make a game prototype", Which is basically, "make a working game and a level for it". Compared to other times this was a group project, we were three people working together on this. I for the most part did the scripting (not actual scripting, just a node based scripting system that Unreal Engine 4 uses). However I also made a few models, textures and even one or two animations.

The game is about a Kiwi called Piripi. He wants to fly, so he sets out on an adventure to gather magical golden feathers so that he can make wings, and eventually fly. You can also pick up different shoes that give you different abilities that you need to use in order to get to certain feathers. The game is a 3d platformer inspired by old Nintendo classics like Super mario 64 and Banjo kazooie.

Not sure if you can see the screenshots, if you can't I'll update with new ones later today. I should also not, you're not able to collect 21 feathers as these images show. There are all together  7 feathers, 100 seeds and 4 shoes to collect.

I guess I'll post this here

So few weeks ago I finished my main project for 3rd year of University. We could do whatever we wanted as long as it was relevant to our degree path. I'm doing Computer Games Animation and I decided to make a playable character in Unreal Engine, where I would make the logic for the character (scripted it with UE4s node based scripting language) and based on the logic for the character I would make animations.

The whole point of it for me was to learn how some of the logic behind a character is set up, so I could animate specifically for the way it was set up, rather than just animating the action and trying to make it work within the engine later. I did not model anything, the model is from a character generator and I had to chop it up because it didn't fit the skeleton. That's why the shoulders look fucking retarded, but try not to mind that too much. I did not texture anything either. This is all about the logic of the character and the animations, I ended up having to make the rig myself which took longer than I wanted, but what ya gonna do. And I ramble, here u go.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeU_23phLnc (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeU_23phLnc)

Also heads up, I am very much aware that the jump is shit, but I also found it the hardest part to get right. Did 3 different versions of it and this one was the best I had. It's not good, so don't sue me ok? I also wanted to do a lot more than I got to do, but between balancing 3 other projects, and generally being demotivated I didn't find the time to add everything that I wanted. I got the climbing in there though which was the main thing I wanted to do.

Cheerio.

Yeah pretty decent job, should've picked another model though.

I believe this was made with UE4:

Download here -> http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=66096 (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=66096)

Pretty cool choreography towards the end of the demo. Even though it is made in UE4, it is still one of my favorite demos.

Due to shitty time management I only had one week to get it done, but still quite happy with what I managed in that short amount of time. Enjoy  :cc_detective:
