V Chat & Support / Re: GTA V Multiple Protagonists Theory
« on: September 04, 2012, 08:13:22 PM »
Nice analysis, but the signifigance of money being important in the game isn't that much of an insight - money is important in all of them. Also, there's been a heist of one kind or another in the last four instalments. I don't know about the 'Stories' games, because I haven't played those. The game being based around a bank job seems a little thin for a game like GTA.

The theory of multiple protagonists is interesting based on the information at hand, but it's all guess work. My guess (and this is just that - a guess) is that it won't have multiple protagonists initially. Like IV, there'll most likely be DLC later that will offer that, but I can't see that being in the base game. The game's always been about personal attainment, and SA (which V seems largely modelled on) was even more so. The pictures and trailer, so far, haven't given any indication that the people you're seeing in them are even the player. Maybe they're keeping the identity of the protagonist under wraps until the second trailer - who knows.

Having said that, it could turn out that you're spot on, and we'll have the GTA version of Left4Dead - online 4 player co-op. Ugh.

I assumed from the premise that it was going to be dumb, but not as dumb as it actually turned out to be. Horrible dialogue, lousy performances and a plot that just gets more and more nonsensical as it goes along. Good effects and sound, but that doesn't even come close to saving it. Ironically it sunk at the box office.

3/10.

The screens look great,  but they lend more to the idea that V will just be a clone of SA in the same way IV was a clone of III. There was nothing surprising in IV, maybe with the exception of bikes, which we didn't see in III. Looking at these screens, once more there's no real surprises - bikes and fighter jets. Yeah, we had those in SA. Naturally if there are any surprises, they'd probably be kept under wraps - I get that. But from the teaser trailer it doesn't look as though there'll be any surprises in terms of terrain either. We know what San Andreas looks like already.

I'm still of the opinion that V should have been set either in a completely fictional city, or a city we haven't seen yet. Something to make the experience of the environment at least completely fresh (the gameplay and story hasn't been fresh for a long time). I'll await the second trailer and hope that reveals something a little more tantalising than stuff we pretty much knew would be in the game anyway.

Movies/TV / Director Tony Scott dead at 68
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:27:49 PM »
This is a sad loss to the film industry, particularly the action genre. Tony Scott directed 26 films and produced dozens more. He's best remembered for movies such as Top Gun, Days of Thunder and more recently Unstoppable. He has worked with actors such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Robert de Niro and Denzel Washington, and has been nominated for an Emmy 5 times, winning one.

Personally I regard him as one of the best action movie directors ever, and The Last Boy Scout is still one of my top three action films ever made. He'll be missed by fans of action films, and remembered fondly by many who grew up watching his movies.

Despite being very good and a great conclusion to the trilogy, I can't help but feel The Dark Knight is still the better film. Pacing is one of Dark Knight Rises minor flaws - it often feels its length. Its predecessor never suffered that problem. Also, it's a cliche criticism now, but The Joker was the better villain. I didn't mind Bane, but The Joker was just more interesting and his agenda was more clearly defined - kill Batman. Bane's agenda seemed a little muddled and nonsensical - "I'll destroy Gotham with this improvised bomb that will explode in 50 odd days! Grrr!" Why not just make the thing go off immediately? You've now given your opponents 50 odd days to come up with a plan.

However, it was still a great movie with a great supporting cast and some well executed action sequences.

8/10.

VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: Disband

Brilliant. This vid's goofy factor is coupled with some fantastically thought-out novelty stunts (and no, the term 'novelty' is in no way used negatively). I watched it, and then watched it again immediately. Not since Slamfunk have I enjoyed a vid this much. There was also plenty of superb classic stunts.

Great stuff, guys. It's good to know there are stunters out there who still see the lighter side.

GTA Modding / Re: Been a long time, need some criticism

Most of the bulk of a cat's head is made up of fur. If you see a cat's head wet, it looks almost skeletal. The re-touch looks infinitely better. But for some unknown reason something still doesn't sit right. It might just be the profile angle, because the neck on that looks way too thin (if that is in fact its neck). Perhaps it needs roughing up around the checks to make it look more like fur. Also, the whiskers and eyebrows should be way longer than they are, and curved - but I figure you just haven't gotten to that point yet.

Other than that, it's great.

Some great creativity and neatly edited. It felt a little short for a three man vid, but sometimes it's better to leave viewers wanting more.

Movies/TV / Re: Breaking Bad Season 5

I'm guessing the cancer coming back for Walter will be the main plotline of the new season. Dunno if any wires or sneak peaks have already hinted at that, but that's basically the only direction the show now has to go to wind things up.
You can't forget Hank!
maybe he finds out that it was Walt behind all of it

I'm hoping Hank's first words in the first episode of the new season are 'I told you so' while addressing his superiors and partner.

V Chat & Support / Re: New screen !! It's official !

With an open world so much bigger than VI's, I just hope Rockstar do more with the game to encourage exploration. Sure, IV had the pigeon hunt, but that wasn't terribly interactive. Read Dead did well to encourage exploration and travel in the world with things like the Treasure Hunter, Survivalist and Hunter sub-missions.

Take a leaf out of Square Enix's book and make searching for pick ups a little less about aimless wandering and/or playguide research, and more about just giving the player a less annoying and time-consuming chance to see everything. Oh, and bring back the R3 missions. I appreciated what IV did with Vigilante - changing up the format - but I missed Paramedic, Firefighter and Taxi R3 missions.

Finally, give me something for taking the time to find hidden pick ups - and no, not a checked off achievement. I don't care about gamer points, I'd much rather have something I can immediately utilise in the game.

Oh, nice screens. I forgot that was the purpose of the entire thread and decided to go off on a 'wishlist' rant. The city looks more vibrant than it did in SA, and much more dense.

Where to begin? It's pretty much what you'd expect from a movie bearing that title, but something wierd happens at about the half way point. You begin to believe that the lousy production values, terrible acting and line delivery and bizarre gaps in continuity are all actually on purpose - that it's a parody of bad movies. It's just that bad. In spite of how atrocious it is, you can't look away. From the hilarious to the just plain baffling, the scenes just maintain your interest for some strange reason.

P.S. The poster art in no way reflects the actual film. That title only barely.

7/10. (Yeah, it's one of those love to hate movies)
