ATS Video Releases / ATS - Hand Jive
« on: February 05, 2022, 01:10:28 PM »
Hey all.

So I went and did a solo - go figure. It's not exactly mind-blowing stuff, just having a laugh and wanting to put something together. It's a mix of old stunt types and new stunt types. I'm pretty certain there's old stunts in there, but I just didn't really give a crap about that. I'm too old to go searching hundreds of videos to confirm this  .

Hand Jive!

Not doing a youtube link. Youtube are too much of a pain to deal with. Besides, I wanna keep reinforcing the database.

Cheers guys.

DISCLAIMER: Manage your expectations!

This vid is more like a stunt/themed hybrid. It was an exercise to reacquaint myself with editing and image work. Also it gave me the opportunity to hang out with the rest of the guys and goof around a bit.

That said - The Fantabulous 4 links below:

Thanks to all the guys for their help on this one - it was invaluable. Also big thanks to KingJad for guesting.

Introduce Yourself / ...more like a re-introduction.
« on: January 22, 2021, 10:56:19 PM »
Hey all you guys, new and old...

So I haven't posted on here for a looooong while, but Nitz recently dug me up (ironically I had only just a week prior finished GTA: Vice City on the PS4 - who knew?) and re-recruited me back into it. I'll start by saying that I won't have nearly the same amount of forum presence I once had. I'm busier now and just don't realistically have the same free time I once had.

Secondly, I HAVE seen a lot of the stuff from the last 5-7 years, probably not all of it, but a lot. There are some really dedicated guys still kicking it, and a hell of a lot of jaw-dropping newcomers. It's great to see, and naturally great to watch. I'd love to go back and leave comments for every vid that has been posted since way back in the day, but I'm probably kidding myself when thinking that. As a blanket statement for all those and everyone still going - it's fucking great to see. I always had a sense that this would carry on, but the fact that the creativity and style is still going this strong this far into it is a joy to behold. And to everyone who has stuck around for nigh on 15 years now - I doff my cap to you all.

I'm stunting again here and there, but again - time is just not something I have in great abundance these days. I'd naturally love to jump into vids that people are planning to get some stuff out there again, but usable replays are a rare commodity for me these days. If there's a crew 'something something' waiting in the wings, I would obviously earmark anything I have for that first.

Having said all that, I'll be keeping one eye on what everyone else is doing whenever the time permits. It's good to be back, it's good to see everyone still having a blast doing this and it's great to see the creativity and dedication hasn't waned one bit since I was last here.

Thanks guys...

Movies/TV / Director Tony Scott dead at 68
« on: August 19, 2012, 11:27:49 PM »
This is a sad loss to the film industry, particularly the action genre. Tony Scott directed 26 films and produced dozens more. He's best remembered for movies such as Top Gun, Days of Thunder and more recently Unstoppable. He has worked with actors such as Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Robert de Niro and Denzel Washington, and has been nominated for an Emmy 5 times, winning one.

Personally I regard him as one of the best action movie directors ever, and The Last Boy Scout is still one of my top three action films ever made. He'll be missed by fans of action films, and remembered fondly by many who grew up watching his movies.

Movies/TV / The Walking Dead
« on: March 15, 2012, 04:32:10 AM »
Just wanted to get people's thoughts - those who've watched it and those who haven't alike. I initially thought the idea of zombie related TV show was a tall order. It works for a movie because the gag doesn't tend to wear terribly thin in only 90 odd minutes. But a TV show just seemed like an unsustainable idea.

However, I'm officially hooked. The pilot is one of the best episodes of a TV show I've ever seen, and certainly the best pilot episode period. I'm at the tail end of season 2 at the moment (the finale won't air until Sunday), and I'm already annoyed that it'll be at least 8 months before season 3.

What I like:

- The zombies are a minor part of the story and not constantly being relied upon for pushing the story forward
- The characters are simple, but still interesting - particularly the character of Darryl
- There's been no needless subplots - it's remained about survival at all costs
- It's shot superbly
- For a TV show, the effects are actually not too bad

What I dislike:

- The location. It just feels like it should be Texas, and not Georgia
- The kid - he's annoying and should not be part of the show

So, if you've watched it, give your opinions and predictions about what might lie ahead. If you haven't watched it, then do so - now!

Movies/TV / John Carter
« on: March 01, 2012, 01:18:57 PM »
For those who aren't familiar:

John Carter - Official Trailer 2 [HD]

Dunno about the choice of using what sounds like a remix of Cashmere in the trailer, but the movie looks kinda interesting. I saw the extended trailer before TPH 3D, and the 3D looks unbelievably good (which I've mentioned before), but I'm wondering what people think of the concept. It'll invariably be compared to Avatar, despite the fact the character was first seen in 1912. The movie looks like a cross between Dune and Stargate, which won't help. This is a big leap of faith for Disney (with a reported budget of 250 million), because if it bombs then Disney will be in a world of hurt.

Personally, I'll see the movie - if only to find out whether or not it works as a movie. So will everyone go see it, or is the hype making you cynical about the movie's quality?

Gaming Discussion / Game to movie or Movie to Game.
« on: February 12, 2012, 01:19:26 PM »
Just interested to see people's thoughts on movies they've seen that would make good video games, or vice versa. In both cases it almost never seems to work. There have been a handful of good movie to game adaptations, but almost no (at least none that I can think of) good game to movie adaptations. So give me your ideas for possible titles (either movies or games) in this genre. Here's a couple I'd love to see.

Movie to game: 20th Century Boys. It's a sweeping sci-fi that would translate well into the RPG genre of games. A lot of characters, an intricate plot and it spans 4 decades. The movie is based on an extensive manga, but is cut into three chapters, which could also translate to the game.

Game to movie: Chronotrigger. This would work better as CG kid's movie. The idea of time jumping and the amount of kid friendly characters could possibly make it work. I realise it smacks of sacrilege, but with talking robots, prehistoric amazonian women and time travel - a kid's movie is about the only option.

Movie to game: Avatar. Now I know what you're about to say - there already was a game. Yeah, but it sucked. I'm thinking along the lines of an MMORPG, much in the vein of WOW. The biggest drawcard of the movie was Pandora, so allowing players to live within that world just seems like a recipe for success. Make it extensive and interactive, where a player could take on the role of a Na'Vi from any number of clans.

Game to Movie: Bioshock. You'd have to change the title, and rework the plot a hell of a lot, but Bioshock has such beautiful design that it would fit right into a movie. Bioshock is also a stand-alone title, where the back story is played out in the game itself. Really I just wanna see a Big Daddy thrown up onto a huge screen.

V Chat & Support / Is V the final nail for stunting?
« on: December 01, 2011, 10:06:06 PM »
Now before you make assumptions based on the topic title - this isn't going to be a 'stunting is dead' topic. Playing IV again recently and watching the trailer for V every now and then has me thinking - was IV basically the last hurrah? I don't mean specifically for stunting, but as a stuntable environment.

Since VC the terrain has become increasingly complex and detailed. It seems with each successive game a stunting method has fallen by the way side. When SA came along airgrabs and decent stoppie combinations (note I said 'decent' stoppie combinations) were pretty much a no fly zone. IV robbed us of any potential taxi stunting and grinding became a fucking ordeal that wasn't worth the effort for the lackluster result, not to mention losing packers and any stuck vehicle method. So in essence IV stunting basically boiled down to natural bumps or secondary vehicle bumps that look goofy as hell anyway.

An earlier thread in this section discussed the possibility that V will be unstuntable due to enhanced realism of the physics engine. But even if that proved false (too early to tell, naturally), one has to wonder what we'll be robbed of next. SA did make certain methods of stunting nigh impossible, but it DID open up new areas. Unless GTA V gives us a similar opportunity, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to think that there'll never be a new city to stunt in. Not with the same degree of possibilities that VC and SA gave us anyway.

Thoughts?

V Chat & Support / Did your GTA V wishes come true?
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:00:25 PM »
I know it's probably too early to speculate, but based on the initial launch trailer - did any of the things on your V wish list come to pass?

As far as I can see the only real thing about the trailer that struck me as something I wanted to see was a more realistic population. That was present in IV, it just looks like it's been taken a step further for V. I'm yet to see whether or not the time of day effects the density of pedestrians, but it seemed to be a feature of Read Dead. That game also had stores shutting at night time, which I'm hoping will be present in V.

Apart from that one match, every other wish of mine is either unaccounted for or is a bust (no new city, for example).

Blog / Blast From The Past: Miss This
« on: April 28, 2011, 05:49:39 PM »
Many moons ago, myself and Darkness were (foolishly) considering hosting a GTA related website. During our scouring the internet for GTA related content, I happened across something known as a GTA stunting video - Miss This. One viewing of that video and both Dark and I were hooked. The rest, as they say, is history.

Miss This was the first community video from members of PlanetGrandTheftAuto.com, and featured some of the best stunters from that era. The vid has the distinct feel of a community that was just beginning to take off, but one that was nevertheless having fun. Most of the names won't be familiar, but these are the guys that inspired so many after them. The care taken in the production of the video (edited by now Rockstar Games webmaster - Jordan Liles) shines right through also. The vid is certainly for the entertainment of those who contributed.

I'll always remember that first viewing of Miss This, and for that reason it remains one of my most favourite vids out there.

Enjoy Miss This.

FUN FACT: Recluse's bump to bailed landing on the billboarding was a winning entry in PGTA's Stunt Challenge series.

ATS Video Releases / Game Over Remake
« on: April 19, 2011, 10:22:59 PM »
Had a couple weeks without internet, so threw together a remake of Game Over. I tried to do stunts differently where possible, and reshot the intro sequence. A megaupload link for now (which won't last), but I'll have a YT link soon.

Enjoy.

Blog / Blast From The Past Double: Torn & Pulse
« on: April 19, 2011, 03:06:10 AM »
This week's BFTP is another double feature showcasing the earlier efforts from one of the best stunters in the game - Barney. It goes without saying that Barney's influence in the stunting world is virtually immeasurable. Barney didn't simply live up to the standards - he set them. This holds true not only now, but way back when he released two of his most innovative vids - Torn & Pulse.

Released right on top of one another, these two vids caught the attention of every single stunter of that time. At the time Barney was aMpT's newest member, and he managed to somehow take the most notable stunting crew and lift their status even higher. Both Torn and Pulse feature fantastic creativity executed with surgical precision. These are the kind of vids that just have you saying 'wow' from the first frame to the last - a feat rarely pulled off in a single vid, let alone two successive ones. It's almost as if Barney was born to stunt, he simply does it that well.

At this point in time, colour corrections and 10,000X8000 resolution renders weren't exactly the norm, but the reason for that is that nobody cared back then. Stunting was still about stunting and Barney's vids were the perfect verification for that. While music choices aren't to my personal taste - they definitely inject the vids with a healthy dose of energy.

Enjoy Torn and Pulse.

FUN FACT: I'll let Barney himself impart this week's fun fact.

Blog / Blast From The Past: Powerful Stunt Project
« on: April 11, 2011, 07:34:57 PM »
The best thing about Graffit 66's 'Powerful Stunt Project' is that it's so fabulously fucking stupid. It's not your a-typical stunt vid, which is the major part of its allure. There are stunts yes, but for the most part PSP (not associated with the Sony PSP) is just a bunch of guys having fun playing the game. There's crashes, glitches, wierd stuff and a hell of a lot funny shit.

There's not much in the way of editing, but to be honest, there doesn't need to be. This vid's all about bringing a smile to the viewer's face and showing the much much lighter side of the game we love. The soundtrack is in perfect harmony with the content, and the vid ends with a classic VC scenario that inspired one of my ideas in 'Almanac' more than 5 years later.

Put your apathy aside long enough to simply enjoy the inane - Powerful Stunt Project.

FUN FACT: PSP was the first vid to feature use of the Spoosh mod.

P.S. Forgive the poor quality...bloody Youtube. The original vid can be found at Fileplanet.

Blog / Blast From The Past: Vice Grip
« on: April 03, 2011, 10:54:47 PM »
Vice Grip Super was put together by one of the modellers at Phantom Studios (way back in the day) as a showcase for their numerous VC car mods. The stunts (both cars and bikes) are obviously helped by extensive tweaking of the handling.cfg, but it really doesn't diminish this vid's entertainment factor - it's a bloody good watch. The car mods are exquisite (despite a notable lack of detail on the underside), and the stunts performed in them have a fantastic elegance about them. The bike stunts are so-so, but keep in mind Vice Grip is some 8 years old.

This is a great vid with a very laid back vibe, and there are some great tie-ins between the lyrics and the content onscreen. As far as I know it was the only VC stunting video made by Jonathan Griffin, but at least it was a memorable one. Enjoy Vice Grip Super.

FUN FACT: I know very little in the way of 'facts' about this particular vid. Fun enough for ya?

Blog / Blast From The Past: Pure Stunts
« on: March 28, 2011, 04:18:14 PM »
A long time ago in a galaxy really really close...

Yes. Nitzkit didn't have a hideously bulbous head and he was stunting on, of all things, the PS2 (that was the one before the PS3). Pure Stunts was Nitz's second foray into VC stunting solos, and it was a damn fine foray indeed. No teleporters. No custom skins or scripts. No replays. Nitz really did have to do the hard yards. But as the saying goes: art through adversity. Pure Stunts is a non-stop stunt extravaganza containing more stunts than you can poke a gigantic head at. And as crippled as Nitz often was by unforgiving in-game camera angles, the stunts still look fantastic.

Pure Stunts has the same old school epic feel that I got by watching Anarchy, and the song choices show that making a vid wasn't always about screeching catter-wallers and ear rape. This is about as 'pure' as stunting could possibly be, and the result left a lot of PC made vids, with all their advantages, in the dust.

Enjoy Pure Stunts.

FUN FACT: Keep a look out for what is arguably the very first successful airgrab.
