VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: VC Throwback 2
« on: February 26, 2022, 01:40:51 AM »
Well what more is there to say than - it's a Dannye edited video.

Everyone's stuff were really great recreations...? Relandings...? Rectums...? Whatever - everyone landed these classic stunts fantastically. What was really nice about this vid was seeing all these great stunters doing the stuff that inspired them - it's not often you get to see that on display. This has been going on so long now that its easy to forget that at some point something made you want to push yourself harder, and this vid basically feels like a homage to that. Excellent work to everyone who contributed. It showed a true sense of history, community and love of this thing we (inexplicably) do.

The editing implemented some new techniques that I'd really love to see evolve further. We're soooo close to having a single take stunt video that I'm all a-tingle with excitement to see how far these techniques can be pushed. I will, naturally, be bothering you Dannye to find out how you pulled off a few of those shots, but most I could kinda see the inner workings at play. That fantastic intro is the kind of stuff I WISH I came up with. When a vid can hand you a laugh and keep you entertained - that's the good stuff right there.

Finally the music choices were solid and fit the mood of the vid perfectly. That laid back, Mimosa in one and your other turning a pig on a spit kinda vibe.

I really dug the whole production man. You did everyone that contributed the project (I had completely forgotten that I was on of those - go figure) proud. And everyone that contributed did the community proud, in my opinion.

Outstanding. I always love it when a vid has a healthy dose of variety in the stunts and vehicles. I'd have to say that I really loved the tight chimney landing in Las Venturas - that kind of stuff just tickles my pleasure spots  . But at the same time all of the stuff was pure joy to watch. Lovely use of the terrain and some sublime Freeway/Angel grinds (they may have all been on the Angel - but you get what I mean). I didn't quite catch the gimmick for the Rhino to roof (I'll have to go back and comb over it - I know something was on fire), but whatever it was - it worked. All around lovely stunts and a pertinent reminder that it's often how a stunt is executed that makes it great.

I did enjoy the editing but (as Nitz mentioned) some footage did look a little dark. I'm not sure if it's just an environmental thing or something you did in editing. I've taken a liking to not altering the time of the day myself in stunts now, but sometimes it serves a stunt better if it's better lit. Again, don't know if you altered the brightness in editing though. It didn't take away from anything anyway, and I could still clearly make out what was going on. If I could add one tiny criticism - and this is just a 'me' thing - why doesn't anyone do credits anymore? I know it's kinda redundant information at this point, but I always love seeing goofs and bailed attempts and even smaller stunts that didn't make the final cut while seeing credits. It's a minor complaint.

The music was...okay. Music is always a tough thing to criticize because it's always a personal thing. I used a song from Grease, for fuck's sake. As always, music that isn't the same thing that's been used to the enth degree wins points in my book. I'll never tire of laid back, groovy tunes to watch stunts with. Always pick tunes that you like and you don't mind hearing 6,000 times...and hope you don't get sick of it in the process.

Lovely job, man. You've made the stunting Gods happy this day!

If I remember correctly, Kaneda you should be 48 now. But Neo was the oldest of us.

Give that man my oxygen tank.

...wait...

And Neo is the older of us two. I'm guessing he'd be late 50's by now.

We've been trying to get a hold of Neo for a while now with no luck. I really would love to reconnect with him though.

The art side of it is fine. The stunts as they play out in the vid are kinda like that, and I don't argue that at all. But I go back to the gymnast analogy. I guess it's a case of agree to disagree. Like I said I'm not about to label this method as modding a stunt, it's more a case of trimming the fat out of a stunt to avoid the 16,000 attempts you have to wade through until you get that one good one.

Just on a sidenote here, I wish your demeanor on the forums was as affable and likeable as it is in that explanation. That's the Allbeast I want to see.  ;)

Okay - I refrained from entering into this topic because I just didn't care. I never commented on Allbeasts vid (Limitless) because I agreed that some of the content of that vid looked highly suspect, and I couldn't honestly praise stunts that I thought were landed illegitimately, but also didn't want to bombard his thread with accusations that I couldn't substantiate beyond a reasonable doubt. So I took the option of not commenting at all, which I felt lousy about because Allbeast DID comment in my thread.

However, now that the reason behind the stunts looking odd and a bit dodgy is out there - I still don't really care. Whether or not this is a 'legit' method for landing a stunt is not for me to say. There seems to be equal opinion either way. If you're willing to go to such extreme measures to simply land a stunt in the pursuit of being the best or whatever...knock yourself out. Personally, I'll opt out of such shenanigans and just be happy to do what I feel like doing, and not give a crap where I stand in the pantheon of Vice City stunters. I've got a long list of stunts that I've given up on completely because I don't know that they're worth the investment.

I'm not sure where I sit on whether or not this is dishonest - it's a grey area for me. As has been mentioned in this thread there have been a shit-tonne of enhancements and tweaks to the game that have made stunting more convenient and much less time consuming. I don't know that anyone stunts with the default game anymore (although if there is - my hat's off to you), so one could consider Allbeasts method just another stage in that evolution. On the other hand, KingJad is right when he says that a stunt is the whole thing. A gymnast can't piece together the best attempts at a whole routine and call it a single routine. That's how I'll look at these stunts from Allbeast - separate pieces of a whole.

Allbeast, I'm not about to tear you a new one. You formulated a method that made it less time consuming to land stuff that you wanted - whatever. I think people's negative reaction to this method is understandable (if a little hyperbolic), and it's exacerbated by your brash grandstanding. Maybe tone that down a bit, acknowledge your method is a little like skipping to the head of the line and people might be a little more open to this.

...that's it.

P.S. I did like some of the idea of a lot of the stuff in Limitless - but that mental barrier of them looking weird is very hard to override.

Boy it'd be great if I could sound off as one of your 30's homies...

...sigh.

Oh, how rude of me: Happy Birthday!

how old are you kaneda?

Older than the first game.

...and I'm not talking about GTA 1. The FIRST game.

(Actually, upon a little wiki scrubbing - not that old, but darn close)

So either 52+ or 64+  :euro:

I did forget about Tennis for Two - and Space Wars now that I think about it. Not THAT old...

...closer to your second guess...*sigh*

:) :) :) :) :)

Appreciate that, man. Yeah, the big grand stuff these days can be a real time sink and I'm at the point now where smaller stuff is not only less of a time sink, but more fun. I was also playing with stunts where I'm going down rather than up - I have no idea why.

@MtS: Yeah, that's exactly how it looks most times - like there's a layer of water in mid-air or something. I'm going to have to jump on the PS4 and try it there. Otherwise, it's my completely legit exe that I in no way pilfered from the internet.

Thanks all.

Just a couple of notes I neglected to mention in the initial post:

1. I became mildly obsessed with squeezing vehicles through small gaps, which is why there are a lot of those types of stunts

2. I added quite a number of mods to the outro of the vid, so a blanket thanks goes to the developers of those

3. Shout-out also to Ezraph and Nem for the remade ATS coach - ours has unfortunately been lost to time

In regards to the Squallo spaz-out - it may be a result of the version of the VC exe I use (not that it's cracked, I would never do that!) but at that very spot if you're still accelerating when you hit a very specific pocket of air near the water tower you seem to wildly accelerate, sometime hitting a second wierd pocket of air just above that one with the same results. I'd love for someone to hit up that spot and see if they get similar results. You just need to be accelerating the whole time.

Hey all.

So I went and did a solo - go figure. It's not exactly mind-blowing stuff, just having a laugh and wanting to put something together. It's a mix of old stunt types and new stunt types. I'm pretty certain there's old stunts in there, but I just didn't really give a crap about that. I'm too old to go searching hundreds of videos to confirm this  .

Hand Jive!

Not doing a youtube link. Youtube are too much of a pain to deal with. Besides, I wanna keep reinforcing the database.

Cheers guys.

Expression Section / Re: What's The Point? - The Philosophy of Stunting
« on: January 01, 2022, 12:19:27 AM »
Thoroughly enjoyed it. It's great to see media ABOUT stunting and the psychology behind it. I've always pondered (after the 27th backwards bailed landing) what the hell am I doing. Three major components invariably come into my brain though:

- community
- discovery
- expression

The community and the people I most often connect (the other crew members) pretty much became the primary driving force for me personally. I think if I went it alone and didn't really connect with anyone, I would have lost interest much sooner.

Discovery is also a big factor. Finding a way to utilize that speck of terrain to get to that target before anyone else has stimulates that brain gunk. Not only that but unearthing a new and effective technique that everyone else can apply - it's like you're contributing to the longevity of something you love.

Finally - expression. I could spend two months scaring birds in the park and then editing footage of that into an entertaining (and somewhat worrying) piece of media - but it doesn't really bring with it the previous two points, and doesn't sound wholly fun either. Stunting taught me a lot about editing and afforded me the opportunity to get my own sensibilities and styles out there into the world. It's not a large world, granted - but it was enough for me.

I really loved the video, man. Not only for it's deep dive approach, but also for that indulgence in your own sensibilities and style. The above is just my cliff notes version.

Oh, and spectacular JC4 stuff by the way.

At least I know what Jim Morrison saw before he died.

Ah, I'll stick with talking about the stunts. If I go into the editing and music for the vid I'll just risk upsetting the purple monkey that's still staring at me from outside my window...

... he sees all!!!
Some pretty mind-blowing spots. I loved the Faggio stoppie down the car park spiral - tried that one once or twice on a PCJ and it's a right bitch to nail. Nice new uses for older spots too, which is nice to see. For guys to still be squeezing great stuff out of VC even this long into it is pretty damn impressive. Also had me audibly straining whenever you were on a sheer angled surface struggling to pull yourself up

A smooth, if a little trippy stunt vid. Wild, man.

I only really have one word - kickin'.

It was a kickin vid. It put me in mind of stunt vids from back when everyone with a functional copy of VC was stunting. Not in terms of the stunts on display (they were leagues ahead of those days), but just the overall feel of the vid. The music felt like something from those days and it was nice and short - often less is more.

Standouts for stunts were the precision down by the docks in Los Santos (off the stairs), the squeeze through the billboard hole (I have an obsession with stunts like that lately), the Rhino grind and the grab to billboard. Of course everything was very cool to watch, but those ones stood a little higher than the rest.

Nice, tight editing job too. Easy on the eyes and entertaining from start to finish - just the way I like em.
