SA Un-Modded Video Releases / Evolution of Infernus Stunting
« on: February 21, 2023, 02:47:38 PM »

Foreword
I've set on a quest and have gone through the SA Videos catalogue of GTASDB (currently at 1283 videos) chronologically in search of Infernus stunts. The goal was to extract most of them and showcase the time-stretched process of mastering controls of a single vehicle and grinding spots with it by the collective GTAStunting community.

Why specifically Infernus stunts?
Infernus stunting has been slowly changing ever since 2005 and its peak has only been reached as late as ~2017 (in my opinion), which makes the progres over the years more evident for a viewer as opposed to, say NRG stunts. It also helped that an average video contains only a few Infernus stunts - the task of trying to encapsulate 18 years of infernus stunting didn't seem to be too unrealistic.

About the video
This is a compilation of many many Infernus stunts extracted straight from their original videos. I tried my best to go chronologically, show different styles of stunting and fill out the blanks where there was no data on GTASDB (i.e. stunting leagues entries). I should however stress that this video does not contain every Infernus stunt ever landed. I am also sorry if I got anything wrong (date/video/first person to claim a spot in a legit manner).

All in all I'm happy with the outcome, I think it helps to paint a picture of the general level of a certain time period; to gauge how good a stunt was at its time and pays tribute to those who pushed the limits. Thanks to Aries and MaCi for running GTASDB, without which this video would not have been created; Bart, Rusch69 & UndeadX for helping out with the stunts selection and correcting me when I got something wrong. Also thanks to all the stunters in this community, past and present, for keeping this outdated niche hobby alive.

VC Chat & Support / Re: Is there justice in this forum?
« on: January 17, 2023, 03:06:21 PM »
As far as I'm aware, there are several stunts when the stunter is saving in the game's action. Quick example - opener of TEOTL or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN6rka-FnhU.
In order to set a certain vehicle for our bump, we have a probability of one in a million in regular gaming.
I'm talking about saving ped's stats, like a barracks or a police helicopter.
Opener of EOTL was purely powersave - the car was spawned on the edge of the cliff and started rolling down slowly by itself. There was no pre-scripted path the car was always going to follow. This is something you can definitely set up without  powersave - just place the car near the edge and use a satchel to slightly propell it forward (i.e. jeff's first part pre-finisher of the same video, just place the explosive a little further from the vehicle to not make it explode). I thought I made it clear in the video's topic...  :hmm:

The other clip you posted is however the Maverick-Pop script from Prog which allows you to respawn a flying Maverick that will follow you around (sort of how the police helis behave with a wanted level=3), it indeed falls a little more towards the shady side of the spectrum - whether it should be allowed to use and considered as unmodded. I abused the respawn of it there to get the right position of the heli before the grab (it is something you could try to do with the default police helis, but yeah each attempt will be very time consuming).

When it comes to a NPC driving a certain straight-line with predefined speed and vehicle, it is the most questionable of all of the above in my opinion.

SA Un-Modded Video Releases / Re: [SA]End of the Line

Exceptional work on the editing Anton, you really nailed the feel we wanted to go for. I know you were not a huge fan of the in-game soundtrack, but you made it work. Also kudos for not going insane by just reading through our constant suggestions thrown at you. Thanks to MtS and Reynolds for the blur/nitro script as well, worked great at some shots. Also shout-out to Kacknase for contributing some ideas that we ended up incorporating.

Glad we managed to wrap it up eventually guys, and the stunting package we ended up combines both the competitive- and the fun- side of stunting. Bart, your infernus stunts are just something else, tremendous work. Also gotta mention Ktulu's finisher, I really did not think this would happen but here it is lol. Other stunts that stand out to me are Jeff's SF Construction NRG dropbump and Rusch69's LS tower landing, wp.

To be completely transparent about the opener - I used Prog's Powersave to spawn an empty FBI Rancher on the slope and timed it rolling down the hill with me reaching the end of the rail.
Thanks again to all the good people of GTAStunting, we appreciate the overwhelmingly positive feedback  :ajaja:

TMS Chat & News / Re: Ask TMS
« on: April 15, 2021, 11:16:54 AM »
What's the last time you launched SA/VC for stunting purposes?
What made you lose interest from stunting?
Do you keep up with the new releases? Do you appreciate the way stunting evolved? Do you have any favorite videos post-your era?
How do you reflect upon SA scene switching Frame limiter off circa 2007-2008? Is it one of the reasons you guys went inactive? Knowing the characteristics of it now, such as easier RADs, bigger airtime, better cabbie boosts etc, would you use it back when you started stunting?
Who was the most dedicated stunter in TMS in your eyes?
What's the biggest milestones in stunting evolution according to you?
Did you guys share spots within the crew? If so, do you regret sharing a spot and having a crewmate get all the credit for landing it?
What's your favorite video of TMS in terms of vibe/atmosphere?
Have you considered coming back/making a type of 'one last ride' video within a crew/on your own?
Do you still have spots that have not been landed to this day to your knowledge?
Have you checked out gtasdb.com website? What are your thoughts of it? Do you think the community should have paid more attention in documenting/preserving stuff (example- storing replays from all videos etc)? Do you still have your old replays? Mind sharing them?
What are you guys up to now?
Can you list stunts that impressed you the most at the time of watching them?
TD: can you compare your experience in pioneering SA stunting to doing that in V?
Do you have any specific memories of something that happened within the crew that the community might not know about - in other words, do you have some TMS stories to tell?
What's your take on modding a stunt? Does modding a single stunt discredit a stunter completely in your eyes? Have you modded yourself in a video?

I might take time for a second round of questions later. Hopefully you guys will get to that podcast and answer those :)

When Everything Dies - Full Review by PrzemOO

Intro:

Nice way to start off the video, some sweet-looking shots of SA. I liked the fact you roamed near areas where stunts have been landed for this video but did not spoil them. I liked the song too.

- Part I -
Afterlife - MTB wallride to double grind: I was trying to do that with NRG500 and packer to get onto the wallride in the past, only recently I thought if it was possible with MTB but hadn't tried it. Really nice stunt and good opener. 7/10
Biel - NRG grind to 90° backwards to grind: Alright combo, not something I would try but it wasn't bad, at least you got some additional spin on the second ledge. 6/10
Afterlife - FREEWAY ramp to double ledge grind: Barney landed it in SAiVC - for that reason I would never try this stunt myself but you somehow made it work with the sweet-ass execution. Really cool stunt. 8/10 Also, the train shot somehow makes it look even better.
Erney - FCR fall grab to precision: I have a feeling this might be old as a fall-grab spot, but might be wrong about it. Cool 360 mid-air, but the stunt itself is rather meh to me. 5/10
Kacknase - NRG smallbump to wallride to precision: Tried this stunt some weeks ago but with a different approach - I wanted to dropbump on the small ledge below the prec to get on it - https://youtu.be/VyCzQdLAyLw?t=111 . I'm happy I didn't land it (hard to cope with losing stunts  ). You came up with a clever way to get the addional some-feet into the landing, it's good to be reminded the spots I'm trying can sometimes be done easier with a little twist - I'll take a closer look at my current spots. :P 8/10
Biel - INFERNUS crane magnet to double chimney precision: Had that in mind also, but never bothered to try - Grescha simply owned the area with his crane landing. Still 7/10 for persistance with detaching infernus and getting both chimneys done.
UndeadX - NRG curb bump to fence bump to chimney precision: For some reason I think it's old/modded by mehmet in the past - will look for a video. If new then 8/10.
Afterlife - NRG curb bump to 360 to bump to precision: Hmm, I have mixed feelings about this one. Kinda like it but then again I feel like it's not as crazy as the camera made it look. :P 7/10
UndeadX - NRG polehit to breakable fence grind to grind: Alright grind, don't know how hard it is but seems rather simple. 6/10
Kusiu - MTB skatepark combo to grind: I lost track of what's been done off those halfpipes in skatepark, and every stunt feels the same even if it's something new. I guess this one was probably one of the better variations of those with the stoppie before the drop. 6/10
Biel - NRG wallride to 360 to wallride to rock precision: I actually really like this find. Really nice technical combo, it doesn't sem hard but it's one of those look-good spots that don't necessary have to be hard. 8/10

- Part II -
Promagic - INFERNUS ramp to tree bump to circular roof: I lost that one ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAtYDW-x25k&ab_channel=Zapp ), although your execution with the bonk to higher part looks more appealing to me, well played. First roof is also possible, had an attempt where I drove off the high part there :P 8/10
Biel - NRG packer to tree bump to roof: Was trying that for some time ( https://youtu.be/bnKpwEjXz4w?t=116 ) before giving up, the tree model angle is a cunt here, you basically have to bump a corner. Really good one. 8/10 (Note to self - try the new-school of driving up a packer without dropping RADs  :L)
Mistake - NRG highbump to parking lot: Has been released some months ago by legend - I assume you lost that stunt. If it was new I'd rate it 8/10, personally I would leave it out.
UndeadX - INFERNUS double bump to roof: I always thought the runup is too short and never bothered giving it a try, well done. Always a pleasure to see new natural ways of landing roofs like this one. 8/10
Minq - MONSTER leap to crane precision: This one doesn't do it for me - Artifex and others have done similar and more impressive leaps I feel like. 6/10
mqtH - INFERNUS smallbump to tree bump to zip building: Nauthiluz edged the scaffolding in 2012 when we were stunting for Haze/Braindead. I tried this spot recently and only got few promising attempts. Good job, although it's a shame you didn't go for the very top - that would be sick! 8/10
Afterlife - NRG grind to bandito bump to grind/double grind: I don't know what to make of this stuckie, wish there was a way to get the scaffolding grind naturally somehow :P The triple was better btw 7/10
Mistake - NRG natbump to roof: Finally, well done dude. 9/10
Named - NRG packer to billboard bump to roof: I thought you're gonna land the same roof Mistake did the previous stunt. It was alright. 6/10
Biel - NRG highbump to come-a-lot: Nice thinking, many have scratched this spot as impossible. Good job utilising the popped tire and making the impossible possible. 8/10
UndeadX - NRG double bump to crane: The idea was nice but landing was underwhelming. I wish there was something higher to go for, but I'm sure it was a bitch to get the corner angled bump :D 7/10
Promagic - NRG smallbump to high roller sign precision: About time I guess. 8/10
Biel - NRG triple grind: Hmm, obvious spot, alright execution. Wish there was another way to get on the first ledge instead of driving into it. 7/10
Minq - CABBIE palm boost to antenna precision: Nice one, the shots Kack did made it look even better. 7/10
UndeadX - INFERNUS double bump to LVPD roof: Also tried it but very briefly, the angle is a bitch, well done dude. 8/10
Biel - NRG natbump to V Rock sign precision: Ktulu lost it as spot (he fell off the sign afaik). 8/10
Mistake - INFERNUS ramp to bump to KACC precision: Strong stunt. 9/10

Interlude:

Well made, it gave me a SSU-esque vibe with all the voice acting, feels like you guys had fun making it.

- Part III -
Kusiu - BMX bunny hop to stoppie to wallhit to spinning grind: The spot itself doesn't blow my mind, but the 360 on the grind does. 7/10
Afterlife - NRG grind to stoppie to grind: Good combo, but again it would be sweet if there was another way to start the first grind. 8/10
UndeadX - NRG highbump to hospital top: Hmm, I don't like this one much (old from the eastern approach with more distance). 6/10
Plani - FREEWAY grind to bonk to grind: I expected something more from you Plani, the roof has been grinded like this a few times now. I guess the second grind is new. 7/10
Mistake - CABBIE mountain boost to tree precision: I don't know if it's new or not (been some similar stunts done to those trees - Raek's in Megaton, Nauthiluz' in Haze). Ok one. 7/10
Afterlife - NRG wallride to rock precision: Looks easy once you get the rock in place hehe. 6/10
Biel - NRG highbump to sex shop sign precision: About time again, well done dude. 8/10
Afterlife - NRG grind to backwheelie to spin to sign grind: Awesome 9/10
Minq - MTB grab to fence grind: Clean execution, but the spot itself was pretty straight-forward. 6/10
Biel - INFERNUS leviathan magnet to tower top: I suppose this is the highest you can get using that method. 7/10 for the effort.
Afterlife - MTB bridge combo to cork to grind: Highlight of the video, such a simple idea but it looks fantastic. Great execution and the editing defo made the stunt its justice. 10/10
UndeadX - NRG highbump to makavelik roof: Highlight of the video again. I tried it way back before the popped tire became common knowledge and I couldn't make the turn between the overpass and flowerbed. Well fucking done, looks absolutely sick. 10/10
Afterlife - CABBIE boost combo to chilliad top: In the past I looked for a cabbie spot to Chilliad, but never thought of actually hopping higher and higher keeping the momentum. Really clever idea, nice execution. Usually I'd be mad that UDX' stunt was not the finisher but the editing made me realize it was the right choice for this video. 9/10

Outro:

This kind of outro fits well for a farwell-SA-stunting video, which this one definitely felt in one way or another. I mean stunting is not completely dead, but this video could make a case that it's coming to a close.

Editing:

Absolutely astonishing. I love all the little details, every camera angle felt so well-designed. I'm so happy you guys ressurected Kacknase for this, not only he made a fantastic job but it didn't take away from the stunts. It engaged me into the video like no video did for the past 7-or so years. Did you use Skygfx mod? The vid certainly had that PS2-look which I think should be used more - it makes the game look so much better. Also what is that cloud mod?! Looks fucking sick. I love how you played with the daytime/weather on clips, not many editors fiddle with that and just stick to one look throughout the video. Nice little touch with the CJ dialogue lines too.  :cc_detective: Great effort. The only nitpicking I have is the mood-swinging in the first part - felt a little out of place, wish you had stuck to one song (similarly to part 2 and 3), but that's probably a personal preference. Overall I had no problem with the soundtrack selection, many great songs you made work with the flow you created.  ;D   :a-cheer: Probably the best edited SA video.

Overall:

Watching your past videos, I always felt there is something lacking to them. You guys usually presented high level of stunting, but I couldn't get engaged due to generic rock songs, looks of the game and editing (no offense to the editors lol). This video surpassed my expectations by miles. I think it's one of those videos that will pop in my mind when I'll think of the most enjoyable ones ever produced on GTAS. Stunting-wise Afterlife (god), UndeadX and Biel stood out for me. My review might have a harsh tone when reading but I genuinely enjoyed watching it, seeing many spots I have tried in the past and getting surprised by some that were brand-new ideas to me. Good variation of methods and vehicle used as well. I hope it's not the last we see from some of you and Kacknase. Thanks for the motivation boost, gonna go stunt now.  :ninja:
