Been a long time, need some criticism
« on: July 30, 2012, 02:45:10 AM »
I haven't been involved with GTA or 3d modelling in a long while, simply due to not having motivation but I came back, had a request n thought fuck it why not.

It's been a long while since I've thought about topology, shapes, etc.. I'm having issues with getting the shape of the head right, I think I've figured out what I've got to do to get it back to cat from monkey.

Other than moving the ears back, completely reshaping the front of the face to fix the eyes, move the jaw/mouth/nose up and back closer to the eyes, can you think of anything I can do to improve it? any specific parts to edit in specific ways?

For whatever reason, the side view looks great, the rest... not so much.

Awesome, only thing i've noticed from owning several cats is that the ears don't usually stop that suddenly, they sort of blend in to the centre of the head almost, i'll show a picture so it's easier to understand (below)

I really reshapd the face and deleted then remade the ears.. it looks more like a cat and less like a baboon now xD

Still, any criticism is appreciate <3

EDIT: just made the back of the head a bit less bulby, it's smaller now and the ears are smooth with the head now

Most of the bulk of a cat's head is made up of fur. If you see a cat's head wet, it looks almost skeletal. The re-touch looks infinitely better. But for some unknown reason something still doesn't sit right. It might just be the profile angle, because the neck on that looks way too thin (if that is in fact its neck). Perhaps it needs roughing up around the checks to make it look more like fur. Also, the whiskers and eyebrows should be way longer than they are, and curved - but I figure you just haven't gotten to that point yet.

Other than that, it's great.

I'll be the first to admit I suck at characters :P and yeah this isn't just the head without fur, VC's an old engine and it's a low poly model so I'm not adding layered fur, it'll just be textured to look like fur.
I had to make the neck pretty thin because it'll be fitting onto a regular human body, so it needs to be standardized from there on and yeah the whiskers were just thrown in to help give the visual, they aren't final by a long shot :P I was just going for the shape of the head.

I would play around with making the fur "fluffier" but it seems the more I muck around with those shapes, the less it looks like a cat :/

FF coming back? Awwwyeahhh.

As Kaneda said, the whiskers and the eyebrows need to be more life-like, more natural, catch my drift?

It looks like the cat's got piercings instead of hair.

Hey now, it looks like a cat already. With more details on whiskers and with colors it might look pretty well done.
and make that mouth more like :3

This is purely the shape of the head, details like that are in the texture but I get what you're saying :)

The whiskers were too short and too thick, though they need to be thick..ish..  because of the old game engine, thin things show up all messed up, I've reshaped most stuff again and tried to add some emotion to the eyes.
