Hey everyone,
You may have noticed over the past few days that GTAStunting has been slow and unreliable. You may have also noticed certain features getting disabled due to high load. Today I received notice that GTAStunting is using too many resources on the server and therefore has been suspended. While I had nothing but great things to say about the host before, the lack of warning and the terrible support turn around times as of late has caused me to rethink my choice. Our best option would to go for a more business oriented hosting with more room to stretch out, however this will cost more than I alone am willing/able to shell out. While there have been a few donations in the past (thank you), I've been paying out of pocket each month for the past three years to keep the site running. I've kept advertisements away from signed-in members and I haven't been throwing donations or personal appeals in your face. The money I do make from the advertisements is only few cents a day and I won't get that money until it hits $100 total. Currently it's around $150 excluding tax and domain fees a year. It's usually a bit more than that, I had a discount last year. The next tier of hosting would be a VPS. The cheapest VPS I can find with unlimited space and bandwidth is $300 a year.

Thanks guys. I'll look into setting up other donation methods but PayPal is the easiest for me as I can have the money go directly to the hosting company. For now I've blocked some more suspicious IP addresses, modified the crawl rates of several search engines and optimized some SMF code. The site seems to be running much better now and using less resources. Hopefully it says this way and we'll be able to stay where we are.

I think it'd be smarter to move to a new host, considering the negative things you said about this one. I'll try to chip in, to what email do I send the money though?

I'll see what I can scrape together. Thanks for the heads up, and here's hoping most (if not all) of the members can contribute at least something. This is our hangout, we should be willing to part with a little cash to keep it up and running.

Fuck RBC debit-cards. They're fucking useless when it comes to anything other than simple transactions. Even paying bills has proven to be tedious, not to mention transfers from 1 account to another.
I'll see if I can do something, although I really doubt I'll be of any use, unless there's a direct transfer to account option, that seems to be the only thing my crappy card understands.

Paypal is fucking retarded lol, it asks me to add a credit/debit card to send money, and when I try to add my visa debit card, it says that my bank has rejected this card or something. Contacted my bank, everything is fine. Fucking paypal lol, will definitely send something once I get this shit sorted out. <_<

I managed to fuck my paypal up. To verify they sent me a really low amount of money to my bank account and I was supposted to tell them how much it was. Ofcourse I forgot to do that so now I can't make a new account with my bank data. -.-

Do you know how rigid Paypal is for Indian users lol? We can't have balance of money in our PayPal, it automatically gets transferred to our bank accounts. Thus, we cannot send money unless we add a credit/debit card. So I applied for an international debit card, after I got it I found out that the card was excluded from the list of acceptable cards lol. Now I have to apply for a new one. :cheersad:

Holy shit! Thank you man! I'm currently thinking about doing something special for donaters, but I'm not sure what outside of doing a private section. However, a private section would be pretty useless imo. Any ideas?
To those who want to donate: As I've mentioned before, PayPal is the easiest solution though I know why many of you hate it. If you guys know of any payment accepting service similar to PayPal, I'm all ears.
EDIT: If anyone else wants to donate, you may want to wait a couple of weeks just so we don't set off flags with PayPal. :P

The site is reward enough, to be honest. If everyone could donate, that'd be great, but not everyone has cash to spare these days. So there's no need to differentiate - just keeping the site going is more than enough for me.
I'll give Neo the word - he's usually good for a few bucks (if he hasn't donated already).

You guys are truly amazing! With the amount donated now, a full year of hosting bills is pretty much covered provided we stay with the current host. With the improvements I've made to the back-end, the site should continue to be stable where it is at the moment. As said before, I don't want you guys to go out of your way to donate. I realize times are hard for everyone. That said, every bit helps and what's left over will be kept for keeping the lights on next year and/or getting a better server if needed. :a-cheer:

This is exactly the problem I had, unfortunately there are only a few people that donate regularly, and it's unfair on these individuals to have to take on the burden of paying for the hosting. Most people will only donate if you post something like this, or if the site goes down and they want to get it back up.
If I were you I'd look at getting some kind of advertising going on, I know it's hasn't been too successful in the past, as only Google Adwords were used, but I'm sure given that your visits per month are probably still quite high, you'll be able to find some kind of advertising within the same gaming/GTA industry.
Good luck, would hate to see Gtastunting dwindle down again.

I know it's hard trying to convince everyone to help pay for the site they frequent most, but what's $1 a year. If you put it in such simple terms, that should be easy right?

Getting everyone to donate money will never work, even if it is just $1. Besides, after PayPal takes it's cut it's not even a dollar anymore.

Onebip doesn't have a very good reputation from what I've read. They take 50% of the donation and can take months before they deposit the money into an account.

Just incase there are some videos uploaded without copyrighted music you'll need this which I use on another account for monetisation.

Type in royalty free music on google and anything there is allowed to be used :) + I'll be able to obtain written conformation from 2 bands (heavens basement and jettblack) to use their music.

And there are often many songs on Soundcloud up for grabs, I think it could be done. Just have to be careful of the laws/rules.

What about this; everyone on GTAS who starts using uncopyrighted/royalty free music in their music vids gets rewarded by having their video uploaded to the official GTAS channel, so we can actually make profits off the video's to keep the site online.

Why not just make a premium membership? I havn't been here in forever so excuse me if there is one already. But just have the premium users pay something like 19.99 for a yearly membership or something where they get features normal members don't get. Such as moving their own posts/topics. viewing a special forum. Something like that. I've seen it work for some sites before.

I think our community shrunk down way too much already to have that implemented now Cody. Having a special VIP forum and stuff.. That just won't work around here, I can already tell you that.

Websites like these always go down because of money issues. It's hard to come-up with a decent solution but for now i suppose donating is the way to go. Is there any other way to donate other than PayPal ? I Suppose i could chip in.

If 50 people donated $6 a year, that would almost cover the costs of hosting. That's like 4-5 days worth of lunch money, and less than many games on Steam sales. The problem is that many people are still living off their parents money, and don't want to explain why they're donating money to a relatively small website. I don't think you'd find success in a premium model, I can't think of anything you can't do with the current setup that I wish we could. File hosting is one thing I guess, but that would escalate the costs of hosting, which automatically makes it redundant.
There's no easy solution, all we can do is donate and use advertisements. I'll donate £10 now :)

Thanks to everyone who has donated! Sorry for not being as active these past few months. I've been trying to settle into college and at the same time manage work and getting RockstarNexus off the ground. As you've noticed, we now have a fancy bar! :a-cheer: I've got some ideas for GTAStunting in my head that I want to implement over the next few months. Probably won't happen until December though as that's when I'm on break from college.
Anyway, some of you were wanting premium benefits for donating. I'm starting today a trial of a "premium membership" that is subscription based. $5.45 for a month and $20.90 for year. The prices will probably change. I've given membership to those who have donated in the past, the bigger your donation was the longer subscription you get (might change too :P). I'll be adding some things for you guys over the next few weeks along with an official announcement.

Also, note that this is just a trial for now. I/We reserve the right to end and/or change the premium program and benefits at any time without compensation.
