USS Video Releases / Re: TMS - DSU - USS - Delta REMAKE
« on: May 17, 2021, 02:56:44 AM »
This was such a fun video to do, and I am glad Silw nailed the editing. Of course, it's always a choice between a puritan carbon copy of the old version versus a reimagination of what could be done with the new raw material. I think choosing the latter here was a very good decision so good on you! I for one really enjoyed this video, I am loving the laid-back atmosphere this video and many others nowadays have.

I'd also like to thank Kingjad for coming up with the idea, and the good chats/updates that followed as we landed (OR NOT LANDED FUCK FUCK FUCK THIS GODDAMN BRIDGE BSM) the various stunts. Revisiting all these spots by myself took me back years, and it was great to try my hand at several others from my fellow USS-ers from back in the day. It was also nice to "race" each other for some of the NK spots, I always loved that tankbump 2 grind and I am glad my version was in the main (though DC's version does have the krail, hats off!).

PS: Silw, why you gotta have 90% of the credits be my bails, I know I bailed some of these way too many times, no need to share lol :ninja:

VC Chat & Support / Re: Collision Fixing: Modded or Overdue?
« on: April 14, 2021, 04:10:25 AM »
Patches that are released publicly and fix obvious problems with collision around the map ✔

Individual spot fixes that fix blatantly incorrect collision, that are released publicly and easily accessible ✔

Individual spot fixes that fix blatantly incorrect collision, that you fix in order to land a stunt, release the video AND THEN make the fix available ~

Individual spot fixes that improve the viability of a spot, even though it's not an obviously broken bit of collision ❌

Individual spot fixes, reasonable or otherwise, that you release videos using but never tell anyone about ❌

I second this. As others mentioned I also used to consider anything not possible on PS2 (or any other non-moddable console version) would be modding, but now I am more convinced that anything "in the spirit of the game" or otherwise in good taste COULD be acceptable or at least open to discussion. Sharing = caring though.

ATS Video Releases / Re: ATS - The Fantabulous 4
« on: April 09, 2021, 07:15:26 AM »
Great video as always! I really enjoyed the 'alternative' style with the editing, as usual ATS comes up with something that defies the expectations on several levels - stunting-wise but also cinematically. I most enjoyed to see Dannye back at it again, such a fresh style and a unique take on what stunting can entail. Similarly kaneda has a special place in my heart because even stunts that are perhaps not as "difficult" as others he makes look just so pleasing. That said everyone had some stunts that I enjoyed!

Like many others I too hope to see a bit more Nitz action in the next one  :ninja:

USS Video Releases / Re: Mehmet & Silw - Midnight City
« on: February 07, 2021, 02:11:49 AM »
Highly enjoyable! I liked how everything mashed together so well, with some very simple-but-oh-so-smooth stunts, some laidback music, and some stylish editing to top it off. I particularly liked Mehmet's odd stairs grind combo thing.

Also bonus points for making Aries' nametag a nice girlish pink ;)

VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: ...VULTURES...
« on: February 07, 2021, 02:06:05 AM »
I Will watch it in a second but the problem i always had with mods like that is that they have no feeling to them. I have no emotional attachment to any of the structures, infrastructure nor the enviorment. When you watch a typical VC stunt video you can easily tell the location and what it invokes in terms of VC story line as Well as count less hours spent roaming through the city. And finding spots no one have found before you is a huge element of what makes stunting fun for me anyways. Lack of spots combined with creative use of said lacking space is a huge part of fun stunting provides.

E: nice edit. I loved the taxi2vent stunt. Was the vent any functinal or just made for stunts?

This put my feelings towards mapmods in a very nice way. I fully agree that for all these map mods the lack of experience in the map just removes a large chunk of the impact of stunts. What makes the issue worse is that most map mods just have a bunch of buildings slapped together, with very little in terms of detailed environments like you would see on e.g. the roofs in the Downtown area in VC, or the industrial section on the third island in LC. Basically, little patches of the game that have so many little details in terms of nooks and crannies that are worth exploring for finding new stunts or modifying old spots into nice combos

That said, this video had some very nice stunts and a mad amount of bonus points for having so many landings where the vehicles only *just* makes it onto the roof. I've had a couple of spots where I spent the effort to reland them in a way that adds a bit of style of this type, and I know others who would reland a stunt if they clear the roof by a large margin to give it a bit more of a feeling that the stunt is a tight one. Also, there were some very nice ideas with what appeared to be a rather lackluster map (again, the issue with most mapmods). I also loved the taxi vent precision, you know it's coming when you see the stunt but these types of stunts just look so fucking sweet. All in all a very enjoyable watch!

(PS: it'd be nice if someone would rehash a bunch of VC/LC/SAiVC buildings into a nice mapmod that doesn't look like a bunch of randomly thrown together buildings, maybe that'd make for an enticing mapmod to explore...)

USS Video Releases / Re: USS - Obelisk

And lost that stunt from Xtramus to the cherry popper grind but used a CSM at the end to land the roof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvlcdMg6wfM&ab_channel=Rainbow

Was debating on whether or not I should use it anyway since it is most likely possible naturally, now it's either that or just send it to a leftover video I guess
I've considered adding the CSM and landing the roof, but I thought it looked pretty shit as a setup, with the car through the fence and all. Not aesthetically pleasing to me at least. I've actually relanded this spot several times because it is not THAT hard to do, and this was the landing that I liked best - nice krail, guns blazing, and some nice spin after the grind. Landing the roof naturally SHOULD be possible but that is a whole different level of pain.

Other than that thanks for the comments so far guys, of course you're going to see a few oldies in videos these days, but to me that's no biggie. I had fun landing my stunts at least and that's what's most important :)

VC Chat & Support / Re: A discussion about cheating
« on: October 16, 2020, 12:48:19 PM »
I think you probably summed up some pretty good reasons, but want to add that some stunters cheat because they feel the pressure to "perform". I recall Tackleberry saying that was the reason he modded and same goes for Fugitive I think (but less sure on the latter, I might have him mixed up with someone else). Generally there are some people that get a lot of praise for some stunts but then feel that it is necessary not to drop too much in terms of level, or that they always need to contribute to e.g. a crew video. I'd actually be inclined to say that this is probably the reason most "established" stunters turn to modding.

Another issue might be because they are afraid to lose a spot. If you know there are other people trying your spot or for some reason think this might be the case, you might be inclined to think they'll beat you to it. Rather than trying harder or accepting, one might instead give themselves a little "edge" to get it done and beat the others. I wonder how often this happens though. I've seen people do weirder shit over losing spots so I wouldn't rule this out either.

Grand Theft Auto - Vice City / Re: Vice City resolution problem

I use this, which fixes the mouse unresponsiveness issue and makes things look less horizontally-stretched (an issue with 16:9 versus 4:3 resolutions).

VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: [VC/LC] Smut - Aconitum
« on: August 08, 2020, 12:25:37 AM »
Superb video with amazing variety to boot. I actually only disliked the opener because the Squallo cannot be obtained in LC except by spawning it yourself (same as Hotring), and I don't think anybody managed to get a boat up there - but if you look beyond that it's a great stunt. Other than the video was rock solid though! An amazing variety of stunts, vehicles, locations, etc.  I wouldn't say all stunts were equally impressive but together they rocked, and showcased some great all-round ability and a keen eye for good spots. Favorite stunt hands down was the NPM double grind with the escalators, I've looked at them many times but how to make it work? Other standouts were the Infernus precisions and the finisher obviously.

The wallride 2 grind in the car showroom is definitely old as mentioned, the true challenge is doing the wallride up and then grinding it back down - one of those legendary spots that everybody knows but nobody has been able to land. There's some other oldies but it didn't bring the video down.

VC Chat & Support / Re: VC Throwback Collab
« on: August 04, 2020, 02:32:56 AM »
Imagine if Lex had it so every replay had the flashing 'REPLAY' text in the top corner, except he made it every stunter's name instead of the clip. That'd be a really big throw-back to how folk used to edit their videos.
This so much! But then you'd better go all out and have only standard Tommy skins, base bikes/sparks/etc., fucking water drops everywhere (AAAAAAA), all reps filmed inside Vercetti mansion, and of course some odd Camhack intro/outro. You know, the entire "classical" package.

I might try to land something for this, could be fun. Have to pick a stunt though...

VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: Skuller - Contaminated
« on: July 09, 2020, 12:42:41 AM »
Very enjoyable! I also really liked the ledge grinds and it's nice to see a variety of vehicles in a single video, i.e. good to see all bike categories, car stunts, taxi, etc.. A nice example of how different vehicles have different benefits. There were a bit too many stuck vehicles for my taste (well, any stuck vehicle is too much for me unless the stunt is killer, but oh well...), but it didn't detract too much from the video.

VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: Skuller - Impervious
« on: May 20, 2020, 05:41:24 AM »
What I wanted to say is that it's a bit harsh to call it modding, yet if he shares it it's not..?
I'd be also happy, if there was a game version where everything is solid and I won't say it's modding, it's literally just finishing Rockstar Games work tbh.
If we draw the line at "It's modded if it's not possible to do in the base game" then LC and SAiVC would be modded, not to mention those versions have fixes too. I don't know, maybe I'm dumb and missing the point, but I'm happy to see new and acceptable spots\stunts, whether he shares it or not.
Fair enough I suppose, at least I can see your point more clearly now so thanks! I do think "modded if impossible in base game" is a very decent rule of thumb in a way. LC and SAiVC are map mods that were originally made by Rockstar, just ported to the VC engine - with some minor modifications to make ends meet. As such I think of them as "community-accepted modding", something that we have come to agree meets some arbitrary standards on what can still be considered base game. This applies to collision fixes but also other mods that do change the game but can reasonably be considered to be in the spirit of what Rockstar intended so to say. I guess that is most important here: it's obvious these roofs, ledges, etc. should be the way they are in the video.

The notion that sharing is necessary is there to ensure that we all have (or can have) the same base game or accepted variant. Basically I can only properly appreciate a stunt when it's something that in principle everybody could land, meaning it's a matter of skill, persistence, etc.

I also suppose accepted variant is a matter of debate and always will be, but if it's "in the spirit of Rockstar's intentions" that's fine by me. Ultimately the whole discussion is rather pointless anyway, stunting is for fun. If you think it's fun to switch off the gravity and fly across the map that's fine, but it doesn't appeal to me!

Sorry Skuller for derailing the fucking shit out of your thread! :)

Now I don't mind it particularly when someone fixes something that is clearly broken, but without sharing = caring... that is just regular modding in my book.

4:05 mehmet packer bump 2 grind:: cant be done without collisionfix, so its a bit dissapointing

Oh shi-
The same thing applies here. Fine if you fix something that's clearly broken, but at least share it with the rest of us. That it didn't happen doesn't mean I agree with it you know... I'd also like for that particular fix to be shared.

but without sharing = caring... that is just regular modding in my book.
meh
You're free to have your own opinion, but then where do you draw the line? What's modded and what's not?

Good video, but ehh.... where can I find these collision fixes? Quite a few stunts are bumps of off stuff that definitely isn't solid in my VC/LC. Now I don't mind it particularly when someone fixes something that is clearly broken, but without sharing = caring... that is just regular modding in my book.
Just to make this clear for everybody: I fixed those you saw in the vid by myself and then landed the spots for more variety and fun only! There are no VC & LC whole maps fixed and I don't have 'em either! I don't think I'm more than anyone here or anything I did it on just few spots for entertaining so I hope people won't be mad at me for that!
It's not so much that I'm mad at you as that it's a shame that these kind of things aren't shared generally. Stunting should always be for fun anyway. But I mean, you're fixing an issue that everybody has that nobody should have (so basically just a developer fuck-up) - great. Now you're not sharing it, so it's a problem everybody has but to which only you have the solution. Not so great.

You might have made the fixes for your own stunts, but consider that there might be other stunts possible with these fixes as well! I already had an idea watching the video for a stunt, but since I don't have the fix it's impossible for me.

Note that it doesn't detract from the fact that the stunts you did were in fact good! (but that goes for plenty of stunts that are "really" modded as well ;))

I'm actually quite curious how you fixed them though, since there are quite a few things that need fixing in VC and LC in this regard. It might be nice to see whether they can all be fixed so as to open up some more spots for everyone.
