VC Un-Modded Stunting Video Releases / Re: AERONAUTS - 48 hours
« on: August 21, 2022, 05:07:40 PM »
So many stunts for such a short time-frame, love to see it! The whole video was put together really well, with solid editing work by both of you and all the fun scripted sequences slotted throughout. Seeing Darkstar's tool in action was great, and it was especially satisfying to see those two stunts composited together without needing to limit the camerawork options (and I got a good chuckle at the end with the back and forth about sharing the roof).

Some editing highlights for me included the camerawork leading into the opening stunts of both parts; the transition from Darkstar's hotring docks stunt to Sheikah's downtown taxi ring in part 1, and the drumbeat-transition in part 2 going from my boat grind into Rainbow's stoppie to grind; the camerawork used to capture Max's LC taxi stunt in part 1; and how nicely you guys captured both of my vehicle-hit stunts! Favourite stunts for me had to include Sheeptea's Part 1 grind to csm bump to roof, Haywire's part 2 opener, and Sorcery's part 2 psm to ledgegrind.

All made for a good fun watch, nice work everyone!
And cheers to Sheikah for organising the project! I had a blast stunting on that weekend to get stuff for for it.

Much appreciated man! Very happy you enjoyed it and also very glad you're still around to be participating in these kinda videos with such enthusiasm and motivation.

Made a little reaction/commentary vid on the video and what the process was like for those interested ♥
That was great, I very much enjoyed getting the behind-the-scenes look at the project! As for the disappearing gun (which I must admit I hadn't actually noticed until you pointed it out), yeah that is strange. There is a Freeplay feature for showing/hiding player weapons - set to F10 in the last released version (moved elsewhere for an upcoming release) - but if that wasn't pressed then I'd say it indeed must be a bug of some sort.

Aaaaaah, that makes sense now, the F10 key is what I use to capture the instant replay with GeForce, explains a lot hahaha, thank you for clearing that up
Thanks for the kind words, brother.

In an ideal world this post would include a live reaction but the quality would be subpar considering I'd seen betas and was somewhat involved with the whole project, so hopefully this somewhat detailed rambling has some type of value to it.

Initial thoughts after watching were strong classic community vibes reminiscent of stuff like Connected, Interlocked, etc. Personally, intros in stunt videos have always been a bit hit or miss for me as they often end up being a convoluted mismatch of camhack angles and bad voiceovers with no real plot that just ends up padding the runtime and is ultimately skipped. You guys managed to put out the exact polar opposite; a well scripted into that ties into the theme of the video having time constraints, funny voiceover lines and an overall value that really sets the tone for the rest of the video.

Stunting wise I won't really get into it too much as it's a bit redundant given the amount of feedback received already, but it was a nice mix of older spots relanded with some new spots and ideas peppered in there for good measure. I will say though, for the longest time it always seemed like stunting was mostly split into two separate categories or disciplines; the bigair guys and the creative guys (obviously there is a large amount of semantics that goes into that, it's not black and white) - and then you get someone like Dannye who resides in his own box and has such an obscure yet fascinating way of finding spots and conjuring up ideas that realistically nobody else would ever have the mindset to think of. Most stunters interact with the environment around them whereas Dannye forces the environment to interact with him, and that plane of thinking opens up a pandora's box of opportunities for stunts.

It's also somewhat interesting to look at the progression of stunting and how a stunt such as the Trashmaster bump to condo roof in Staunton by Haywire was originally landed by Feron in 2009, was by all accounts a fairly mindblowing stunt residing in one of the best stunt videos of all time, and now stunts like that or of equal caliber can be landed relatively quickly for a 48 hour video.

Editing and production wise, I think you both managed to smash it out the park. Putting the flaws aside, taking on a project that rivals the length and replay count of community videos is no small undertaking and managing to edit and release it in such a short timeframe is even more impressive, and I wouldn't get hung up on a couple of camera shakes or slightly misaligned angles as I don't think they detracted from the video in any way, shape or form. The angles and framing were great, and it's brilliant to see a 2 person stunt that isn't confined to Freeplay static angles and Vegas cookie cutter plugin to bring the two together, so shout out to Simon for developing that tool and showing what can be done with it as it really opens up more avenues of creativity for editors to use in the future.

It's one of those projects where everything just works - the soundtrack pairing up with the stunts, angles flowing into one another and the pacing/ordering of the stunts all coming together to create a well rounded, cohesive and enjoyable video. I don't want to turn this into some half baked glory days nostalgia post, but it really did have the same feeling as say Hypokryts, Interlocked or any other community based project from that time which I guess it's a given when you have two stunters from that time period putting the video together. Like everything, it's all subjective but that era (07-09) was atleast to me the best era for editing - it was far enough into stuntings lifespan that people had got to grips with using proper editing software, but not too far ahead like when videos started focusing a bit too much on being a polished, professional production. It's refreshing to take it back and have a video that uses what would be considered the generic formula/template for a stunting video - solid intro, prog rock type of songs, borders with nametags etc. It might be a bit outdated now and maybe didn't hold up too well in older videos but for this project it worked great.

Overall, an absolutely brilliant video from start to finish with a solid turnout and effort from both stunters and editors alike, and I'm glad I managed to pull a stunt out of my ass at the 11th hour to be a part of it.

Thanks a lot for playing a huge part in the vibe of the video with your work on the bars and tags, that literally made all the difference.

As for the voicelines, like you said that's hit or miss for sure, that's why I really wanted to make sure everyone didn't just read a line but had full understanding of the context and scenario at hand. Very happy everyone's noses were in the same direction in that department.

Fun thing you touched on as well as DC in his live review is that thing about people these days just landing stunts that sent shockwaves throughout the community years ago and now they're just casually being landed for a time limited video, I think that really shows stunting is still growing as a whole even these days. I personally think there's a lot of room for more insane shit to be done except we don't really have the playing field to completely explore those possibilities with the standard 3 maps for stunting. Glad we're exploring new territory in map mods that fall outside of those three staple ones these days and I hope this community will churn out more and more bangers with all that at our disposal.

Thank you as well for the in-depth review man! <3

Thanks for the hard work my friends  :jajaja:

Thanks again for this man, was super fun to be on the receiving end of a live reaction ♥

fuck i should've made a live reaction, i forgor 💀💀

this video goes hard as fuck, such a nice feeling with these songs, the name tags, voiceover and shit, feels really nice to be back and participate in a fun and well made project in 2022, feels just like home
props to puzzle and simon for editing this really good too, great camera work by simon and his tool, and the warm and old school feel puzzle put with those colours and song choice too, y'all made me want to edit something now
the voiceover and scripting was so good too lmao it really ties up the whole video

fav stunts were krypton's LC rooftop combo and taxi boost prec, dannye's skimmer stunts, puzzle's SAiVC grind, rainbow's VC stoppie to grind and max's finisher (smooth ahh camera work)

also @maci if you're reading this, i hope you liked the way i landed that old ass CSM spot of yours ;)

GGs everyone! let's keep it up

I appreciate that a lot man, good to hear the vibe caught on :a-cheer:

It turned out great, my stuff was shit :(
Editing and style is the true old feeling.

Gj you all!

Thank you so much man <3

Let's start with the stunting, my favourites not in any order: Zero's stuff in general, Blaze's car stunt with the spins, Turbo's infernus wallride to grind and his freeway stoppie to precision, SuhZin's recoil CSM to roof, Ltab redoing Barney's CSM to double grind, all of Darkstar's car stunts and especially that last one because of the best execution of that stunt yet (at 11:31), Dannye's stuff (especially the hunter police car bump) but apart from the Voodoo stunt since Max did that 10x better in Pimpin 2, Gryzlek's wallspin to ledgegrind was nicely done and Puzzle's prefinisher. Anyone know who did that last one first? I only know BoxXx did it in SA.

When it comes to the editing let's start with the intro and outro because that was hilarious  Great work there, lol'd quite a bit with the unexpected POEEEEEZZLE. The first camera shot into Krypton's opener was very awesome too! Excellent way to begin the video. There were a lot of nice camera angles in both parts so not going to name them all but just in general it was hard to spot that it's the first real edit any of you ever did so congrats on that :) I did notice it however because of the smaller things like Darkstar's part being rendered interlaced (I think) which results in a lot of tearing (pauze when Dannye's red infernus hits the ship grind at 3:29 for example, it's quite bad there) and Puzzle not knowing the Freeplay commands that disable the idle camera and camera object collisions. Like at 8:14 the camera had to be super close because of all the poles and the camera still forced itself into the player at the bump because it was not disabled. But that's just minor stuff and with a video this big it didn't distract me from enjoying it one bit. Great work :) And great music selection, very nice. Also nice to see the tool in action with that double stunt from Haywire and Sheikah, worked well.

I actually had boxXx' SA version in mind when I tried it too  Thank you again for the in-depth review brother <3

Great video guys, everything is just perfect, you made me want to stunt again

If another collab of this kind is organized I will not miss it

Much appreciated homie, I'll make sure I get you involved next time

Too good for a 48h video. Loved the comvid vibe in it. :P

Yooo, good to see you around man, and thank you!

That was very entertaining. I've always loved voice acting, keep on doing that! So fucking funny.
The first part felt very 2008/09-ish which was really cool and the overall editing was good! Great songs too.
Nice stunts too of course, good job everybody!

https://gtasdb.com/video/aeronauts

Thanks Alex, was fun as hell to have all of those voices come together in a smooth way, join next time :a-cheer:

That was so cool guys. Great to see old names still kicking some ass. :a-cheer: These kind of videos make the scene breath. Let's keep it alive. Fresh 10/10.

Very glad you enjoyed it J, really appreciate the kind words too ♥

Haywire's stunts looked modded
Darkstar fucked uped editing with too much dark and blury picture
all others guys done great job, stunts was ok but best part for me was cut scenes, i always love see some scripting, nice acting and great humour, which was all together in this video

The blurriness is sadly the result of combining the 2 parts since we both use different editing software and had no way to merge the actual projects so I put his .mp4 into my project and then rendered it. Glad you enjoyed the skits though :a-cheer:

Fantastic video with an oldschool vibe to it. Great job everyone involved and special props to both editors who jumped in without much previous experience on a project of such scale.

Joy to watch the versatility of Dannye's stunts in this :ajaja:

Isak!! Thank you man, we had a blast doing it ♥ Glad you liked it

Fun collab  loved it

<33 Join next time

Getting shots like 4:12 & 6:47 as first time editor is crazy to me.
I'm not sure what Darkstar tool does exactly but it sure has given us some beautiful cam work action.

Stunting was top tier for 48h. Standouts for sure were Max, Dannye, Suhzin (Think I never heard of this guy?) and Blaze hotring spin looked really cool.

The tool is sort of... Like a replay 'editor' in Blender..? Simon's gonna have to give you the full rundown on it

That was a great fucking video guys, loved the editing, and the stunts were awesome too. This made me feel very nostalgic and got me to launch VC again after years lmao.

<333 My man, thank you so much. Good to see you back

That's some good stunting for 48 hours! Nice job on the editing guys, it's quite polished for your first big editing task :euro:. I liked some of the new camera types too, I've got to check out Simon's tool soon (no not that kind of tool :ninja:). Keep it up, it was fun watching a time limit video again.

UPDATE:

Camera angles were shaky at times in Puzzle's part

Yeah, sorry about that :cheersad: I tried dropping my DPI down to 100 and the in-game sens to the lowest as well but I found that the idle cam would take the wheel very quickly so I tried working my way around that by moving it around a lot which only now I realize is a massive eyesore :L Thank you lots for the kind words though! <3

You don't want to drop your mouse's DPI down too low, it doesn't just lower your sensitivity, it also governs the resolution of your mouse, so you'll start getting skips and jank in your angles because your mouse can't smoothly glide between modulations in motion (you can also disable idle cinematics with Freeplay by pressing A on your keyboard). Best off aiming for 400-800 DPI with mouse acceleration switched off (800 being preferable for best resolution and sensitivity balance) and lowering down your game's sensitivity, whilst using a dense mouse mat or firmly pushing down on your mouse to increase the weight of your movements :cc_detective:.

Thank you so much man! <3 His tool does work wonders :cheernutz:
That little rundown will actually come in handy next time, especially the DPI thing, 800's my go-to so that's a pro off the rip. I guess adding friction will actually make for a smoother flow, true. Great to see you back on here and thanks again brother, hope all is well ♥

All in all it was an awesome collab! I only got a bit dissapointed that my 6x ledge grind got unused.. and I got the feeling that some stunts weren't done in the time limit, actually I'm sure about one: SuhZin's lc p2b - we received it months ago as a part of his audition. Other than that everything was great! I spotted few editing bugs aswell but that was nothing when the editors had their first serious editing job here! The first part was my favourite as long with the music and the whole vid got the old school feeling which I always support! Tumbs up guys! :a-cheer:

Very much appreciated man <3 However I'm pretty sure we didn't receive a 6x ledgegrind :cheersad: Would've definitely been used by the sound of it.
Also yeah, we didn't really check dates on reps honestly so if anyone sent stuff that was done outside of the 48 hours then I guess that says more about them.
Thanks again man!

What a fun watch this one was. Simon's tool and his utilization of it was amazing to see and Puzzle did a great job editing his part as well. I loved the intro/midtro/outro scenes, glad I could contribute something with that simple script. Really digging the community vid vibes with the classic banners as well
Stunting wise Dannye, Rainbow, Ltab, Krypton, Haywire, Sorcery and Turbo really pulled through with some great ideas and executions but there were gems from others as well (just the ones that I can recall rn)
It's great to see how many stunts were sent in for this especially considering the short time frame this was organized and edited in. Wish I had some more time to stunt in my 48h (and more luck to land my spots). Let's do it again sometime :P
Big up

Your little script added a whole new dimension to the video man, I'm so happy with it.
Thanks for taking the time to do the voicelines as well <3

Fun video with a community vibe to it. Loved the little intro you guys did in the beginning. The edit as solid and clear. Hopefully you'll produce some more  :cc_detective:

Thanks dude, happy you enjoyed it :a-cheer:

As some mentioned above, great video with a definite comvid vibe to it. It's just funny to me that a 48h timelimited video brings this feeling, but I'm glad it does. Stunting was good overall, Zero's stunts were spectacular and Simon did some remarkable car stuff too, but everyone did decent, really.
Editing was above expectations knowing this if your first editing guys. Honestly I liked both part, it was enjoyable and really well-made. My only concern is that the first part was too dark for me, I felt I don't see the stunts clearly enough. But it was made by Darkstar, so nomen est omen, I guess

Overall it was just good to see the amount of people in this, I'm happy to see VC stunting is still going strong these days.

We did go for somewhat of an oldschool feeling and that's partially because that's all we really knew how to pull off too :ninja: Glad everyone caught onto that and enjoyed it as much as we did making it :D

Also a huge, huge thanks back at Simon for being amazing to work with, and of course Max for scripting, and everyone submitting amazing voicelines and Blaze for the borders and nametags. It really was smooth sailing and everybody involved being on the same page helped so much with that.

I'll try to make a review/editor's POV thingamajig tomorrow to guide the ones interested through my thought process :D

Welcome! :cc_detective:

Sheikah, Darkstar and I are immensely proud to present you something that's been in the works for a good 2 weeks now: the 48 hour collab Sheikah organized.
Initially Krypton was supposed to edit but realized he's way too busy with real life so he asked Simon and myself to take the project up.
Simon's working on a camera tool he really wanted to put to use in a video but other than that has no real prior experience when it comes to editing stunting videos, and neither do I except my little quickly slapped together map mod solo.
The scale of the project sort of terrified me personally but I decided to just wing it and make it a learning experience and along the way Simon and I were enjoying ourselves so much we even got comfortable enough to slap some skits in there as well.
We tried capturing the oldschool stunt video feeling, i.e. HypoKryts, Interlocked, etc. and I think it went pretty well on both our ends.

We received 91 stunts which we split evenly and completely random and both tried to make everyone shine as best we could but obviously some stunts made it to the credits and some didn't make it at all sadly, but it still turned out to be a dope selection of stunts that did make it in with the time and room we had.

We want to thank Sheikah for giving us both complete creative freedom and for even giving 2 editing virgins a shot at a huge video like this to begin with.

Without further ado, please enjoy the video and a live reaction would be SO, SO, SO much appreciated <3!

Thanks for squeezing me in last minute <3 Super happy to be part of this video. Great editing, great songs and most of all great stunts by everyone; really enjoyed seeing all of these stunts again, especially the ones I kinda forgot about.
It's literally crazy how Krypton and I are like one mind when it comes to stunting in general and this collab in particular  I literally tried everything he landed before but he already landed it way before me, thus absolutely stomping this video.
Had a bunch of bad luck myself while trying stuff for this but the final product is an awesome, memorable video that'll hopefully be reinstalled in the future.
Top job to everyone involved!

« on: November 04, 2020, 07:23:57 AM »
Congrats on putting another one together man, love seeing them :a-cheer:
The intro was so ominous and set the tone perfectly.

Krypton - Side p2b: Dope find! Super cleanly executed too
Smut - Squalo prec: I was sitting there like "land the prec, land the prec, lan- YEA BOIII", awesome stunt
Max - Stoppie 2 prec: That was a tight fit, awesome addition of the mission, kinda wanna explore the possibilities of that more now
Fighter - Freeway p2b: Yezzuuurrr, clean as hell
Vice Ninja - Sanchez nat bump: Wasn't sure where you were going with that at first but that looked sweet as hell
Ezraph - csm: Noice, cleared some distance there
Silw - Tankbump 2 prec: Nice unexpected turn that one took, satisfying as fuck
Khaimyk - Voodoo fbi bump: It's not an AHOV vid without one of your Voodoo stunts, sick!
Hedgehog - Infernus barracks bumps: Not gonna lie, if this isn't at least unofficially voted as stunt of the year then I don't know what we're even doing anymore. What a fucking banger of a car stunt
Max - Taxi barrel roll 2 boost 2 roof: That was nutty, I love those drop boosts
Skuller - Nat bump 2 grind: Keeping it nice and simple yet so squeaky clean
Krypton - Tree p2b: Maaassive distance, awesome
ZeRo - p2b recoil 2 roof: Sweet, nice spins too
Skuller - csm: Nice one, considering the runup is ass
Skilz & Sheeptea - Taxi boost 2 prec: Great executions on both, I like how you both landed on opposite sides too
Puzzle - nat bump: Fun fact: I got 136ft on this stunt but it looks more like 36
Krypton - curved grind: Yeees, good job on staying on til the very end
Nerve - Angel grind 2 stoppie 2 prec: Awesome find, perfect execution
Sorcery - Sanchez grind: Probably the smoothest Sanchez grind I've ever seen
Rainbow - Packer 2 island: Not the most mindblowing method to get the job done with, but it works, so good shit on nailing it
Silw - Stoppie 2 double grind: Grindmeister! Nice one, super satisfying
Khaimyk - Sanchez skimmer bump: Nice verticality to it, looks pretty high too
Sorcery - Krail 2 stoppie 2 ledge grind: I tried this on and off for a couple years only to realize I'm absolute trash at ledgegrinds. You make it look so easy lol, sick stunt!
Sheeptea - Tank bump 2 prec: I won't rest until anyone lands the main attraction there >:(
Haywire - Sunshine Autos bb: That was a BBBBUMP, goddamn. Nicely done

Edit: Dope as always, glad you went with In The Fire too, you edited it perfectly to the pace of it.
I'm not an expert on all the effects and transitions so I can't really comment on how "well" it was edited but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and I hope you can put another one together next year<3
