Blog / Regarding Downtime
« on: May 25, 2016, 08:48:49 PM »
A few days ago our provider noticed some strange outbound traffic coming from our box and shut it down so that I can review. They believe the traffic was part of a outbound denial of service attack.

I'm still analyzing, but at first glance I do not see anything that would indicate a compromise. Regardless, I still recommend that you change your password if you used it anywhere else - just to error on the side of caution. I will be forcing a password reset for everyone soon.

You may notice some stuff missing and the site might seem a little slow. In light of a potential compromise, I've decided to wipe the VPS we were running on and start from scratch with updated versions. It will take a few days for me to properly configure everything -- so in the mean time I've set us up on a temporary host. I've also gone back to a clean install of the SMF forum software and applied only a handful of forum mods. Let me know if you run into any issues.

I apologize for the delay in getting things back up. It's hard to juggle getting the site back up and taking care of a 4 month old.  :P

Blog / Server Move
« on: August 30, 2013, 10:55:30 PM »
Hey everyone,

Over the past few days you may have noticed a number of errors and performance issues. This was due to a host of ours moving us over to a "more powerful" server that was actually the opposite and caused more issues. The host then tried to tell us that it's our fault and decided to put limits on our account.

Fed up, I've moved us over to another host. The cost is a few bucks more a month but it should be worth it in terms of performance since the server runs on SSDs and utilizes CloudFlare Railgun. The transition hasn't gone as smoothly as I would have liked it to but I've been working to get everything fixed.

If you notice any issues with the site, let me know. Also I need everyone to report how fast things are loading. This will be me evaluate the host to see if it's worth the extra money.

I know it's frustrating having the site go down like this and I apologize for it. I hate it too as it's more time taken away from my focus on College and enjoying what free time I have. Hopefully once this is all over everything will be rock solid.

Cheers,
AJ

Blog / Steam Group Attacked
« on: July 19, 2013, 06:28:12 PM »
Hey everyone,

Last night, a Steam account with administrator access to the GTAStunting Steam group suffered an attack, and as a result, a number of members were "kicked-out" of the group. If you had previously joined the group and find that you are no longer in it, you can simply rejoin either by searching for it via the Steam client or by clicking here. We have also contacted Steam Support to see if we can have the changes reversed. We're sorry for the inconvenience and have taken steps to ensure the group is secure.

Cheers,

AJ

Blog / Passwords Reset
« on: April 16, 2013, 12:48:30 PM »
As Daffy posted earlier, we've become aware of an attack on GTAStunting accounts. While at this point we are not aware of any compromise of our own database, the database of another forum that a number of our members frequent has leaked out into the public. A malicious user has taken it upon himself to use passwords from this leak to gain access to a number of GTAStunting accounts that had the same password.

In an abundance of caution, we've decided to invalidate all GTAStunting passwords effective immediately. To gain access to your account, you will need to initiate a password reset. We ask that you use a password that is both strong and unique to GTAS to help not only protect your own GTAS account, but to also protect other members as well as other accounts at different services you may have. It's also never a bad idea to change your passwords for other accounts, especially Email, every now and then.

If you're unsure how to create a good password, feel free to use the guide below. The comic was created by the fine folks at XKCD.

Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding!

Community Council / SA-MP sever feedback
« on: January 01, 2013, 12:41:45 PM »
Hey everyone. I just purchased a years worth of access to a server that should be more than capable of running a stable SA-MP (or MTA) server. I recall getting requests for GTAS to have it's own server. What would you guys want on it? Obviously some kind of stunting but what specific things and features? Pre-made maps? Teleports?

The next big thing from Rockstar is finally almost upon us. Tomorrow marks the console release of Max Payne 3 in North America and then on the 18th Max will be out across the pond. (PC users will have to wait till the 29th in NA or June 1st in the UK) There are a number of midnight launches going on at GameStop and Walmart stores across both the US and Canada. You can find your nearest store using the locator on Rockstar's website. If you're going to be picking up Max, be sure to register on the Rockstar Social Club and then join our very own GTAStunting crew!

« on: May 07, 2012, 11:54:32 AM »
Hey guys. Recently we launched RockstarLoft and a number of you have been big supporters and for that you have my up most gratitude. Yesterday, I received an email from Rockstar asking the name to be changed due to trademark issues. Due to this, we have decided to rename the website RockstarNexus.com. Current links to the RockstarLoft domain will be redirected for now, but please make sure to update your bookmarks to RockstarNexus.com as I believe I will need to hand over the loft domain to Rockstar. Again, thank you guys for all your support and I hope you come with us over to  RockstarNexus!

Blog / Trying something new
« on: April 16, 2012, 04:32:24 AM »
Hey guys,

Just a heads up that I'm planning on moving the site within the day to a new server. This server is supposed to be an enterprise grade server and I got an amazing deal on it. The only problem is it will require more manual attention and is on a OS to which I'm not all that accustomed to. That said, I'm trying to learn and I hope you stick with me even if I make really stupid mistakes. I hope to have no more than a two hour down time for the site once I start moving, though as always things don't go as planned. Please stick in there and hopefully the site will be speedier at the end of the tunnel.

Cheers,
AJ Collins

Blog / GTAStunting Needs You
« on: January 20, 2012, 01:47:44 PM »
Hey everyone,

You may have noticed over the past few days that GTAStunting has been slow and unreliable. You may have also noticed certain features getting disabled due to high load. Today I received notice that GTAStunting is using too many resources on the server and therefore has been suspended. While I had nothing but great things to say about the host before, the lack of warning and the terrible support turn around times as of late has caused me to rethink my choice. Our best option would to go for a more business oriented hosting with more room to stretch out, however this will cost more than I alone am willing/able to shell out. While there have been a few donations in the past (thank you), I've been paying out of pocket each month for the past three years to keep the site running. I've kept advertisements away from signed-in members and I haven't been throwing donations or personal appeals in your face. The money I do make from the advertisements is only few cents a day and I won't get that money until it hits $100 total. What I'm hoping is some of you might be able to donate via PayPal to keep the site running, stable and free of annoying advertisements. Even just a few bucks would be greatly appreciated.  In the mean time, I'll will continue to try and make do with the resources available to me.

Cheers,
AJ Collins

The GTAStunting.net Forum Awards 2011 Winners

As usual, I feel like I should give a few final words after I completed this task 2nd year in a row. Thanks to every single person who helped fill up the video list, sent his nominations and voted for his favourites. Without all of you this wouldn't keep growing every year. I'm very proud to say that this year we've broken all expectations on vote amount and even passed last year's amount of voters (115, last year 110).
For fitting last words... well, let's quote Daffy once again, I can't put it better myself:

"Do remember stunting is about having fun, not winning anything.
This is merely meant as a appreciation to those who inspires us."

Chat & Support / GTA 3 Mobile Modding
« on: December 15, 2011, 09:08:44 PM »
Thanks to Rockstar and War Drum Studios, the Grand Theft Auto III port for iOS and Android devices uses a direct port of the same RenderWare engine that the original game used. This means that most files are moddable using the tools we've gotten from the amazing tool makers over the years.

TXD - The file structure is almost the same, the textures seem to be stored differently though. The game will still load texture files from the PC version though so this really isn't a problem.
DFF - Map objects and cars open just fine with Kam's Tools. Character models are another story.
GXT, IMG, IPL, IDE, COL - Same as GTA3 PC.
SCM - Same as GTA3 PC but has a few extra opcodes.

Accessing the files on your iOS device
The easiest way to access the game files on your iOS device is to get iExplorer. It is a free program that allows you to explore your device without jailbreaking. To access your gta3.set file, you may have to jailbreak and get afc2add in addition to using iExplorer.

SCM Decompiling
The SCM for the mobile version is almost exactly the same as the SCM for the PC version. However, the mobile version uses two extra opcodes. Because SannyBuilder is unaware of these opcodes, the SCM will fail to decompile. To properly decompile the SCM, you will need to add the follow opcodes to the SCM.INI file.
Code: [Select]
03A8=1,
03A9=0,
Thanks to spaceeinstein for the opcodes!

Set File Documentation
The gta3.set file contains a number of settings for various game options, including ones not available in the game menu. The file can be found at (Root Directory/User/Documents) for iOS devices and at (/sdcard/Android/data/com.rockstar.gta3/files/GTA3) for Android. Below is a list of documented hex offsets, their function and their options. To edit these, you'll need to open your gta3.set file in a hex editing program such as XVI32. If you've found a function and it's offset, please reply to the topic or shoot me a PM so it can be added.
